Oh my gosh. I just found this website that walks you though creating a believable society. It breaks each facet down into individual questions and makes it so simple! It seems really helpful for worldbuilding!

the problem with autism is sometimes you want to do something (brave) but you need someone to gently walk you through each step so you know what will happen. and people don’t like doing that

bastard sounds great in an irish accent. if an irish person calls you a 'daft bastard' it just feels right
the welsh have the monopoly on things ending in hell. fuckin hell and bloody hell hit different in a welsh accent. its like music to my ears
the scots have piss and shite for sure. "its pishin it doon out there" "this is a load of shite" absolute poetry
if i may speak for the english i think we do penis related words very well. dickhead, knobhead, bellend, etc.
and for all the shit we give them, you gotta admit that no one can deliver a 'goddamn' quite like an american. theres a certain weight to it that you just cant achieve in other accents. when an american says goddamn you know shit just got real

For all that is talked about, Legolas does not get nearly enough praise for how kind he is.
Joins the fellowship on a mission almost guaranteed to take all their lives in sacrifice without blinking. Never uses his title of prince and, in fact, doesn’t mention it at all. Takes part in the battle despite it having little effect on him, with his people sailing west and leaving the war-torn shores.
He rebuilds the rubbles of cities destroyed, makes the world better and filled with life, both flora and fauna. He stays beyond the calling of the sea, resisting the desperate urge engraved in his bones calling him to sail. He, with a gentle hand and a brave heart, handbuilds a ship and takes the risk of bringing Gimli along with him.
He doesn’t have to, but he did.

lets be real, this is the dwarf dramatized retelling of what happened: there is no way in Mandos Thranduil got up on his elk and dragged his whole army out of the woods to watch from a hill as the dragon invaded Erebor.
1, it takes ages to ready an army to move. 2, once the dragon was burrowed/settled into the mountain, an army from the outside was going to have an extreme disadvantage 3, if the elves had entered Erebor to try and kill the dragon, the dwarves would be pissed about the elves 'invading' 4, elves have fought dragons before (bigger and badder than Smaug, in fact) and it is highly unlikely Thranduil would have let one entrench itself in his backyard if he'd had any opportunity to get it before that happened.
It's much more likely they saw the smoke from Dale getting torched, sent some scouts who found the aftermath of Smaug evicting the dwarves. Those scouts may or may not have assisted the survivors of Dale and brought back news to Thranduil who would have had to make a decision after the dragon had already settle into the mountain.
If the dwarves who survived the initial attack actually asked Thranduil for help (maybe a possibility? They'd spent a few decades insulting the elves of Mirkwood in particular and generally participating in the ongoing elves-dwarves historical feud. But urgency might have driven them to their nearest intact neighbor instead of their kin in the Blue Mountains), then he likely made the decision not to set his people against a dwarven mountain city made to withstand sieges, now with a dragon at its heart.
Also, Thorin was pretty young when this went down. Maybe old enough to command people by virtue of being grandson of the king, but his father and grandfather actually escaped the mountain and would have been the ones calling the shots. Would King Thror, (famous for intentionally slighting Thranduil over the white gems and ignoring Thranduil's warning about Thror's greed attracting the attention of evil) have begged the elvenking for help? Somehow I doubt it.

Older post game Taash, years down the line and well into their middle age, is still just as playful and energetic as they were in their youth. Yelling in fights, hyping up their allies, and shit talking like they've got nothing to lose. Taash is still buying rounds of drinks, taking hits, and casually flirting with who ever gives them the time of day or looks at them a certain way. But older Taash, while not the definition of mature, has clearly grown. They are less the student and now the mentor. Taking little pieces of those they once saved the world along side and rarely talk to today. Taash is the first person checking in with everyone post fight. They are the one who orders everyone else to fall back while they hold the line so everyone gets home safe. Taash's fire is still alive and hot but less like an all engulfing flame and more like a hearth. Their room is always open, bed always warm, for those who need the comfort of a pair of warm arms and an ear to listen. They are everyone's parent. The one who doesn't discipline you normally and who's nurturing is taking you for your favorite drink and carrying you home when you've had too much all to only give you shit the next morning for it. They have a book and cure for everything. A meal that makes you think of home just when you need it. They always seem strapped for cash despite taking job after job and finding treasure a plenty, making sure everyone else has enough before they even take a single coin. Most of their 'wealth' is then spent on others, both near and far. They arrange to have some romance novels sent to Bellara and then further arrange some tomes they found to be delivered to a certain professor in the necropolis. Neve finds a warm coat, hand crafted, always passed to her by a dismayed mailman just when the weather gets nippy. Davrin has a new sword or shield or little outfit for Assan every holiday and Harding, as well as her mother, have the rarest herbs in all of Thedas and never have an empty table. And then there is Lucanis who, every so often, gets given a special shipment by Teia containing daggers and trinkets forged from Wyverns. Even Rook is found, where ever they are, given Intel and trinkets as well as gold just incase. Taash's clothes are well worn and patched. Armor well kept but showing age. It's a habit they once didn't understand and now hold close to their heart. Taash has aged into a patchwork of everyone they've loved, everyone that has cared for them even when they were difficult and angry at the world. And as they age this becomes more and more clear until they are grey, still fighting and still loving those around them like family.

yall really got me into this series on the strength of wang ye and zhuge qing as foils and their relationship. i knew they weren't technically the main characters but that did not prepare me for not even seeing our guy zhuge qing until like episode 7?? like i go into this and i'm like, who is this guy with the ridiculous haircut??? when do we get to the sleepy monk and cocky idol? (I get that Chulan's hair is an attempt to mimic an animated silhouette, but some things do not work on a real person.)
anyway, yall didn't tell me at all about the ways Wang Ye and Zhang Chulan parallel each other! Like, there's so much here. Both are underestimated because people only see what they want them to see. Both would rather avoid fights. Neither use their full power unless seriously pressed. Both would probably rather actually spontaneously combust than directly talk about their issues. They're both constantly using the 'don't fight me, i'm just a little guy' excuse when they're magical powerhouses that could solve most of their problems using their ultimate moves. But having those ultimate moves is essentially the cause of their problems.
Like, Wang Ye is just desperately trying to take a nap at every opportunity and Zhang Chulan has tried to sneak away from every serious fight. I swear the running gag in the early episodes where someone kidnaps him and the moment they take their eyes off him, he's sneaking away, usually while the kidnapper tries to fight someone else. When Wang Ye tells his master he wants to compete in the tournament the guy legit says 'you can't even get a full nights sleep, why would you want to do that'. They both flip on a dime from super serious vibes to 'I'm a weird little dude who doesn't care about my rep.' Anytime one of them get caught being weird/suspicious they react by making it weirder so the person they're annoying forgets the original weirdness. Their meeting in the bathroom. Not calling out NDT's blatant shenanigans/cheating. THE EATING CONTEST. Zhuge Qing calls it out, they both didn't have to do any of this and it goes against their best interests to continue but they still do it.
seriously i'm barely halfway through and i'm so invested now what have yall done to me

I've always liked to imagine that the "more dangerous and less wise" reputation of Mirkwood was created entirely on purpose by the Elves themselves to ward off people who didn't know better.
It would fit with the canon fact that the Rohirrim believed a strange sorceress lived in the Golden Wood ("few escape her nets, they say"). And Treebeard, when asked by Merry why they were warned against Fangorn Forest by Celeborn, said that had Merry and Pippin been going the other way, he would've warned them against Lothlórien, since "I am surprised that you ever got out, but much more surprised that you ever got in".
Mirkwood and Lothlórien both have a reputation of being "dangerous and strange places" and I like to think Galadriel and Thranduil encouraged that reputation as an extra layer of protection for their people.
