This piece by Mercy Survivor Anna was originally published on her blog “External Mercy” and can be viewed here. A review of Mercy Multiplied’s Guidelines for Establishing a Residential Counseling Ministry. Mission is the topic of the next bit of the Guidelines Manual from Mercy Multiplied.  Once again we have some fairly good advice (although nothing that I didn’t find when I googled these sorts…

Why?
This piece by former Mercy Ministries staff member Sian was originally published on her personal blog, Wide Awake…, and can be viewed here. This is a rewrite of a previous post that I have now deleted.  I will say this was not because it was untrue,  every word was true, but it was my experience and written from a place of hurt and anger.  Anyway…this is NOT about me.  I survived and I’m okay.…

Hi hows it going? i was wondering if your willing to reblog all my writen blogs? the reason im ask is that im trying to stand up for people who are being mistreated by there doctors and im standing up against bullying. It would mean the world to me that you reblog them. That would be great. I just really want to help people in anyway possible and please help by passing this around. There are only 5 blogs so far. Your the best
Hi Tammy.Firstly, my apologies for taking so long to come back to you.  I am not the best with Tumblr and can’t tell how long ago this message was sent, plus i have neglected this account for a while. We “like” and repost content that specifically relates to Mercy Ministries.  However if you feel any of your content can help former residents recover from spiritually abusive institutions, we may consider reposting as something that will help those we are trying to reach.PeaceMS Team (Sarah)

Hi so I just started the application process and I was wondering how long does it take to be placed usually?? Thanks!
Hello again. Can I ask how long you have been in the application process?  It really depends...our experiences differed greatly.  For me, I think it was 6 months, but I really can’t remember.   For some it was a couple of months, others waited almost a year.  If you are still in the application process, I encourage you to check out our closed Mercy Survivors Facebook group to interact with former residents and ask any questions.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/383310025202392/?fref=ts This time is critical, and is a time you could be considering other alternatives and weighing your decision up critically, whatever you do choose in the end. Finally, i feel to warn you about a lie that is often fed to applicants during the application process.  That is, that Mercy Ministries is your last and only hope, that only Mercy can save your life, that God wants you there, that for you to be at Mercy (should you be accepted) is his only will for your life for that time and if you leave then you are stepping outside his will somehow.  There is always hope for your recovery.  Recovering from an eating disorder rarely occurs within a neat 6 month box.  Even if the staff were qualified and the counselling wasn’t a cover for prayer and expelling demons, even if the program was healthy, six months is in many cases an unrealistic expectation for ED recovery. There is rarely a quick fix for issues like ours but i just wanted to encourage you to not get sucked into the lie that Mercy is your last and only hope.PeaceMS Team (Sarah)

Mercy is the only hope I have because I have no insurance and my eating disorder is killing me. I don't know what happened or why it's bad I just searched for it in the search bar and I found your blog. Why is it bad? I don't want to go I guess if it's bad..
Hi Anonymous.Firstly, i am sorry if this response has come through late.  I have been neglecting the Mercy Survivors tumblr account for a while, and i can’t tell when this message was received.  I hope it’s not too late to respond.I’m so sorry you are struggling with an eating disorder.  I have not struggled personally with an ED but many in our network have and i have seen how destructive and powerful they can be.It’s really important that you get some proper help with that.  You don’t have to do it alone.  But as you can probably guess, from where we stand, we do not believe Mercy is the answer for eating disorders or most other issues.  EDs have the highest mortality rate among mental health disorders and require qualified, multifaceted intervention.  This does not exclude spirituality (if that is important to you) nor does it exclude modern medicine, We would not recommend MM to any struggling person, but as much as I don’t want to say it, it is your decision to decide what is best for you.  In saying that, I do encourage you to think critically and read all information you can about the program.  Not just the information they feed you or tell you to read, but all information, including our website, the numerous blogs, media articles, reviews etc.  I would also like to invite you to check out our closed Facebook group called Mercy Survivors where you are free to connect with former residents from the program and ask questions to help you in your decision.  Link below:https://www.facebook.com/groups/383310025202392/?fref=ts PeaceMS Team (Sarah)

Petition and video re exorcisms, recovered memory therapy and conversion therapy
Petition and video re exorcisms, recovered memory therapy and conversion therapy
There is much to be said of Mercy Ministries, and much to appeal to the American government and public about.  Mercy Ministries denies it all of course.  They continue to distance their brand from the former Australian homes (which they have since re-labelled an “affiliate”) and attempted to lay the blame on the insidious issues that actually originated at the US homes and continue with the homes…

Quote
Intimacy is not who you let touch you. Intimacy is who you text at 3am about your dreams and fears. Intimacy is giving someone your attention, when ten other people are asking for it. Intimacy is the person always in the back of your mind, no matter how distracted you are.
