Hi! I realise I'm quite late to the party and this blog is unlikely to even still be active, but.. have there been any follow-up weeks or events since this one? Are there likely to be? It's something I would absolutely love to participate in!

Hi! I am also late to this message, apologies anon! At the start of the year, there was no plan for a Merwaincelot Week 2025, but there might be a more low-maintenance version running in September if prompt inspiration hits...

In terms of similar events, @mercelotweek and @merwainefest are still very much active! The former ran in May, I believe, but definitely check out their blog for all of the entries! And the latter is scheduled to begin at the start of August, so if you're looking to participate in an event and are a fan of that ship then that's absolutely the place to be.

However, it was always the idea that if one person wanted Merwaincelot then there would be a space for them that they could drag others into, so keep an eye on this blog in August, and have a good day/night, too!

Summary: Generally speaking, Gwaine was a strong advocate of fun. Not, however, when it threatened to publicly humiliate him by falling out of a tree.

Gwaine takes Merlin and Lancelot to ruins by the sea for what was intended as a relaxing day out. But, between Lancelot needing to refine his anatomical studies and Merlin making an unexpected discovery, it's not quite what Gwaine had in mind.

Opening:

The sunlight was falling across the ground in delicate waves, golden froth gathering around the grassy mounds like rocks on the shoreline, and Gwaine jumped down from his horse, casting a glance over his shoulder. Lancelot and Merlin were still both mounted on the one horse but they’d come to a halt to absorb the surroundings. Gwaine had to admit, the ruins looked much more breathtaking when he considered it through the eyes of his partners. It was just as he remembered it, though with more wildflowers fringing the remains of the castle and the daylight painting it in more comforting hues than it had been when Gwaine had used it as shelter from the rain. It had been ruined, then, and the fragmented skeleton of a structure that he could guess had once been impressive had been more sinister in the flashes of lightning than it currently was. The stone shone golden in the sun as rays of light draped lazily over chipped walls and lonely columns and, through the ruins, Gwaine could glimpse the rhythmic motion of the ocean. He dropped the reins of his horse, trusting her not to wander too far when there was so much grass to be had, and swung the bag they’d brought over one shoulder. Making use of their long limbs, Merlin dismounted before Gwaine had a chance to reach for their hands, but Lancelot gripped Gwaine’s shoulders as he swung his legs over the horse. ‘How did you know about this place?’ he quietly asked, breath brushing Gwaine’s cheek as he looked past him and over the edge of the precipice the castle was balanced on.
