“Grand” Player Organ, ca. 1893
Æolian Organ & Music Co. (New York, USA, 1887-1895)
- Materials: Cabinet: Mahogany
- Other Notes: “This would have been one of the earliest types of pneumatically operated automatic musical instruments ever produced, and was the forerunner of the 20th Century player piano as we know it. These instruments were most popular in the 1890s era, and were all but extinct by the first decade of the 20th Century due to the popularity of the player piano.” This organ is under restoration, priced at $18,000. It is currently sold.
