Sing 2: Buster Moon x GN!Reader

First true post of this account! Takes place the night after Jimmy threatens Buster for lying about his connection with Clay Calloway.

Reader is implied to be a mammalian creature.

“Buster. ...Buster.”

“Huh?”

“Are you okay?”

“Yes, yes, I'm fine.”

A minute passed before you sighed and sat up, rubbing your eyes.

“Really? Because, you're shaking like a leaf. Is it too cold in here or something?”

Buster began to insist that nothing was wrong, but realized how hard he was trembling. He took a deep breath (which did absolutely nothing for his nerves) then turned his head and smiled at you.

“I think it is. Do you think you can go find the thermostat and turn it up a smidge?”

“Fine...”

Buster watched you get out of bed and walk away, waiting until you were out of sight to break down. He took shaky breaths, holding his hands over his face as his meeting with Jimmy Crystal replayed in his mind yet again. The bared teeth, the claws digging into the wood, the recurring threat of getting thrown out of the window- every detail about the encounter had induced a primal fear unlike any the koala had ever experienced.

Buster knew- well, hoped that Jimmy was exaggerating with the murder threat. Even so, the fear of embarrassing not only himself but his theater, thus proving Suki's harsh words true...

“I have no idea why anyone would make a thermostat so complex, but I think... okay, you are not fine.”

Buster tried to pull himself together but it was too late. You had already seen enough, and seconds later you were back in bed pulling him close for a comforting hug.

“No no no, I'm alright. I'm just... thinking about that movie we watched a week ago.”

“That was a comedy, Buster. You laughed the whole time.”

Buster said nothing, light tremors still wracking through his body as you began to stroke the fur atop his head.

“If you don't want to talk about it, that's fine. But I feel like you do.”

Things were quiet between you and Buster for a while. Eventually his trembling lessened to the point where it was hardly noticeable and he was able to breathe without his lungs stuttering.

“I'm just... stressed. That's all.”

You felt like there was something that Buster wasn't telling you. After all, you had seen him stressed before and this was far more than that. But you also felt like his answer was the most you were going to get out of him tonight, so you let it go.

“Everything's going to be fine, Buster. And I'm not just saying that to make you feel better. You have a way of making things work out.”

Buster didn't respond, but hugged you a little tighter. You pulled the blanket up to his shoulders, then kissed the top of his head.

“Tomorrow will be a better day. Now, get some sleep.”

Buster closed his eyes, finding comfort in the rise and fall of your chest as you dozed off. Tomorrow was going to be a better day. Because Ms. Crawley would be back with Clay Calloway, and if not then he would drive out to who-knows-where and get the recluse himself.

This production was going to be a success, even if it killed him.
