the transphobia surrounding the conversation of mizu being a woman is.. concerning to say the least.
as a transman and a eurasian person, the idea or theory that mizu is transgender in anyway is… not factual whatsoever. but the discourse around it is borderline terf-ish.
please keep in mind that a lot of the fandom of bes contains queer teens, that project into their favorite characters in hope to see someone like their selves in media. there isn’t a lot of rep for these people, but, let me illiterate the fact that mizu is representation for biracial women!!
summarizing, mizu is a woman. don’t be transphobic. thank you for reading, take care of yourself <3
as a wasian woman who lived as a boy for safety, i find it extremely disrespectful when people claim Mizu is a trans man. Mizu does not willingly live as a man, something that is addressed multiple times in the show. reducing Mizu to a trans man ignores both the complexities of being a mixed race woman and the trauma of having to live as a different sex (or race!), which is a trauma far more common for women of color than for white women.
Mizu's story is for mixed race women to relate to. Mizu's story isn't for white trans men to relate to.
I'll be participating in a charity livestream with other storyboard artists to raise money for careforgaza and e-sims! @tulliok and I will be live on the 4th, 5PM PST (8PM EST). Check the list above; artists such as @kianamaiart and @mak-to-the-future will be participating as well on either the 3rd or 4th.
Now's your chance to make me sketch a 1920s AU design of an MLP character I would have otherwise never designed!
