I understand where you’re coming from. When I said what I said, I wasn’t limiting the “cure for autism” claim to either low-functioning or high-functioning people with autism.
I was just saying that the stress that we put on finding a cure is a little silly when you think about it. I’ve seen and heard of many people, low AND high-functioning, who all live fulfilling lives with their autism. We’ve gone this long without a cure just fine, so why try and get it now, amirite?
But you made a good point: Cancer isn’t a very good example, since there HAS been known cures for it. But I stand by my previous statement: there are a lot of diseases out there that don’t get as much attention as autism does.
I hope I cleared that up
You know, I don’t see why people are looking for a cure for autism.
I mean, autism isn’t a deadly disease. There are people who adapt from it and strive. I’ve never heard of someone dying from autism
We have dozens of diseases out there that can really kill people, like cancer and diabetes, but they have no funds going towards their cure research.
It’s like being in a room that’s on fire and using the pitcher of water that you’re holding to water the healthy houseplant that’s sitting in the corner.

Okay guys, I have to write this down
I was fixing YouTube videos for my little brother. He’s VERY obsessed with dinosaurs, so I decided to play episodes of Dinosaur Train, a show on PBS that I knew he liked.
As I played one of the clips, I watched it along with him. You can make fun of me for watching along, but I do it with all of his shows.
Anyway, it was a clip with one of the newest episodes, an episode I had never seen before. In the clip, Buddy and Tiny (two of the main characters) were having lunch in this cafeteria (I think they’re in some school to become future conductors? I don’t know) and we get to see this one character that I thought was VERY interesting.
Tumblr media
This is Dennis Deinocheirus, a character I had NEVER seen before in my entire life. As I watched the clip, I noticed some little signs and mannerisms that reminded me of, well, me:
The biggest thing I noticed throughout the whole thing was that Dennis appeared to be.....emotionless. From his facial expression, you’d think he was upset, but he really wasn’t. He was willing to sit with Buddy and Tiny, and he was happy to be friends with them. That’s actually something that I’ve noticed about myself; people would think I was upset because of my facial expression, but I wasn’t. I even noticed him (in some instances) avoiding eye contact, one of my biggest problems.
One of the little waiters made a joke about something, which Dennis did not get at all, and as the waiter tried to explain the joke, he finally said “Oh, never mind”. He did this another time when Buddy made a joke that he took too literally. That was one of the biggest problems that I had growing up, and even now: needing jokes/sarcasm to be explained to me.
He knew a LOT about dinosaur facts, which he could list off almost automatically. This is most likely his “special interest”, which is something that most kids with autism have. He even quickly counted the plates on a stegosaurus’s back as it was walking by.
When Buddy, the main character, noticed that Dennis finished the dinosaur facts before anyone else, Dennis simply replied “That’s what we’re SUPPOSED to do”. This was a BIG mindset for me growing up. I was always a little bit smarter than my classmates when I was younger, but I never gave it much thought; it was just me doing my work, like I was supposed to.
Dennis was obviously not good with socializing, as the clip showed him eating alone at first, before Buddy and Tiny invited him to join him. Socializing was always a big problem for me, even now, when I’m a senior in high school. I’m very lucky to have the friends I have today.
During the clip, Dennis said something to Buddy along the lines of “Even though we’re going to be friends, I’m still going to be faster at everything than you”. That’s honestly the type of no-filter stuff I would say when I was a kid, if I wasn’t so shy back then.
The BIGGEST sign for me was near the end, when Dennis suddenly started saying “Buddy and Dennis are friends” and repeating it like a chant. Buddy even noticed and started chanting along with him (which I found to be very heartwarming). I’ve never done something like this, but it looked like something I WOULD do.
After seeing the last thing on the list happen, that’s when I knew something was a little.....off. Of course, I wasn’t just going to assume that someone was autistic, so I did some research, and I found THIS article:
Tumblr media
I am just.....FLOORED. In a good way. First of all, I never knew that PBS did anything for Autism Awareness Month, which makes me very happy.
Also, I had seen representation like this before in Sesame Street and Arthur, and I know I don’t have the same symptoms as other kids with autism, but I had NEVER seen so much of myself in a character like this before, which honestly makes me so happy. I never expected a show like Dinosaur Train to tackle something like this, and to do it so well. They honestly can’t believe how amazingly they captured something like this.
I’m just so ecstatic to see representation like this, and I can’t wait to see if any other shows will follow suit in the future.

Let’s Talk About Cartoons
I LOVE them
Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always loved cartoons, and I still do. In fact, as an aspiring amateur writer/artist, my dream is to make my own animated cartoon one day.
Cartoon Network was my LIFE when I was a kid. I was born in 2001, so I actually grew up watching classic cartoons that have long-ended, such as Ed, Edd, and Eddy, Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Codename: Kids Next Door, and a bunch of other cartoons.
Now, as a 17-year-old, I’ve been there when they’ve started airing newer cartoons, such as The Amazing World of Gumball, Teen Titans Go, Uncle Grandpa, Steven Universe (my PERSONAL favorite), Apple and Onion, and Craig of The Creek. I’m also a HUGE fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Now, I’m just going to get something out of the way: I know most people REALLY don’t like Teen Titans Go. I personally don’t hate the cartoon. It’s true that it is cringe-worthy at times, but I still personally think it’s worth watching, since I know animators work hard to bring us this kind of content.
Now, as a kid with autism, I’ve always wanted people to be able to see the world through my eyes, and as I grew older, I’ve found that cartoons were one of the best ways of expressing this. You’re not only telling a story, you’re showing people a glimpse into your mind, and into how you see the world.
As a kid, I always felt I was the “weird” one, but cartoons have shown me that being “weird” is actually really fun, and just because you’re weird doesn’t mean that you’re unloved or outcasted, but actually the opposite. You just need the right people who know how to see past the weirdness and to see you for who you truly are.
“How could you like the reboots? They’ll never be like the originals” First of all, I grew up actually watching the original Teen Titans, and looking back, I realized that while I liked the storyline and stuff like that, I only really liked it when they had light-hearted and funny moments, since it had such a serious art style and a serious storyline. That’s what I like so much about Teen Titans Go. They tried to keep it as close to the original as possible (they brought back the original voice actors, for crying out loud—) while making it light-hearted and enjoyable and still giving something to the new generation.
Does that mean that I loved every cartoon that Cartoon Network has given us? Of course not.
Do I wish that they gave cartoons like “Apple and Onion” (which got cancelled after 10 episodes) more of a chance to grow popular? Yes, all the time, that show was ADORABLE
Do I wish that they spent time actually developing the cartoons that they had instead of introducing new ones every two months? Every day of my life.
But, do I understand that animation is one of the hardest jobs out there, and that the animators and writers that work on the shows are just trying to give us funny and relevant content that they think we can all enjoy, and the least I can do is not be a complete douche about it, and accept the fact the other people like different things, and that we should all coexist in peace? ABSO-FRICKING-LUTELY
My point is, no matter how old I get, cartoons are always going to have a big influence on my life. Who knows? Maybe one of MY cartoons will be famous one day. I don’t know, but I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us. :3

Okay, so I know on this site, we fight about a lot of things
But can we all just agree that THIS MAN:
Tumblr media
Is one of the most underrated characters in the whole ASOUE series?
Because not only did he make the Baudelaire children feel at home, recognized their intelligence and didn’t look at them as just children (like most of the adults on the show did), treated them to little luxuries (such as movies), and gave them special jobs that he knew would best fit their abilities,
But even if he didn’t recognize Count Olaf as his true self, he still recognized that the children felt unsafe, and that Count Olaf was up to no good, he actually listened to the children when they expressed their concern over the situation, and he made a plan to get himself and the children as far away from Count Olaf as possible, as soon as possible.
WHICH IS MORE THAN MOST OF THE ADULTS IN THE SERIES COULD EVER DO
Conclusion: Dr. Montgomery Montgomery is a GREAT GUARDIAN, one of my favorite characters and he doesn’t get enough hype
Rant over

Pluto was removed from the list of planets in 2006. That doesn’t mean people still don’t consider it a planet. Nonetheless, thank you for that tidbit of information, and just remember that I wrote this post with everyone in mind, not just the people with disabilities.
A message to the people with mental disorders or other disabilities
To the autistic people whose parents don’t allow them to “stim” in public for fear of embarrassment
To the dyslexic people whose friends and family are always frustrated with them because it takes them an hour to read a page
To the people with ADD who get yelled at for not sitting still when they’re supposed to
To the people with Aspergers who feel like freaks and outcasts because they don’t know how to socialize
To the people with Down Syndrome who feel like they aren’t beautiful or feel like they never be beautiful
To the people who see the world differently than how most people do
To the people who feel alienated from their friends, family, classmates, coworkers, or any other people that they encounter on a daily basis
Let me be the first to say it
You matter.
You are just as important as all of the other people on this planet.
Your opinions and your feelings are valid.
Just because you were made a little different, it doesn’t mean that you are any less important.
You are all a group of beautiful and unique human beings who are blessed with talents that you may not realize yet, but you eventually will.
There are people out there who love you for who you are.
And for those who don’t, That’s their problem.
Because they are so close-minded, they don’t see the actual BEAUTY and LIGHT that is shining in each and every one of you.
And it gets easier.
It may not seem like it now, but it WILL get easier.
You will improve, and you will be able to conquer the obstacles in your life.
If you can’t, then that’s okay, too.
Just that fact that you choose to BE YOU is enough.
Go out there and BE YOU

An Unimportant Rant
You know what YouTube channel really makes me mad?
Drama Alert
For those of you who don’t know, Drama Alert is a series on YouTube where they share personal information, or “drama”, to the public about certain YouTubers, particularly ones who are having rough times. This can also include interviews with said YouTuber.
Why do they piss me off? Because they take private information about YouTubers and blow it COMPLETELY out of proportion. It especially irks me when they manage to paint the YouTuber in the most UNFLATTERING light possible, and makse them seem like the bad guy.
Take Bashurverse, for example. When I first saw him on Aviator’s channel, he seemed like a funny guy, and I really enjoyed his content. Then, the mess with Drama Alert started. He lost subscribers, his friends, his girlfriend. Now, his channel is shut down, and the truth is, he didn’t deserve everything that happened to him. Yes, he made a mistake, but since when has anyone ever been perfect? He was a nice guy that made mistakes that anyone else could make. Keemstar may have apologized, but it still doesn’t make up for the crap that Bashur went through.
Also, there was the Sky/Alesa dilemma. Thanks to Drama Alert, everyone now knows that Sky had to fight over custody of his son with his ex-girlfriend. Whether Sky had given permission to Drama Alert to cover this story or not, I don’t know. What I do know is that this isn’t a topic that Sky wants to be brought up any more, but Drama Alert still pushed the limits.
What I’m trying to say is, these incidents are just the TIP of the iceberg. Drama Alert has let the dirty laundry of a lot of YouTubers’ air out, sometimes without their permission.
The worst part is when Drama Alert screws up the information SO MUCH, that the YouTuber has to put up ANOTHER video in order to straighten the mess out. I don’t know about anyone else, but whether making the video was the YouTuber’s choice or not, it still feels like a “walk of shame” to me. Imagine having someone screw up information about you so bad, and have everyone begin to think so little of you, that you have to come in and sort everything out, leading you to have to relive some personal trauma.
Now, I know Drama Alert is just doing the job that they get paid for, and that some YouTubers have actually done some genuinely bad things, and my opinion, or anyone else’s for that matter, doesn’t excuse the wrong things that they did, but I just feel like that it should be the YouTuber’s job to divulge personal information about themselves, not someone else’s. It also doesn’t help that people will believe everything that they read, or that people are willing to change sides once one person expresses their opinion on something.
This sounds like such a kindergarten lesson, but people like the workers on Drama Alert need to learn that their actions have consequences, and that the things that they say about a YouTuber will follow said YouTuber until the day that they die. Heck, as long as people remember them, they will not only have the reputation that they’ve developed for themselves, but the reputation that Drama Alert gives them.
Everyone’s personal problems are like piles of dynamite, and Drama Alert has a lit match, and they’re looking a good pile to throw it in.
And I don’t think that’s a good thing.

I am Autistic
What does this mean?🤔
Well, it’s different for everyone, but for me, it means a lot of things:
It means that I don’t understand social cues. This can be a MAJOR problem when I’m interacting with people my age. I can’t “read a situation” the way that most people do. This causes me to say things without thinking, and to say things that accidentally hurt others. Of course, the people that know me the best know that I would NEVER say anything to PURPOSELY upset someone.
This means that some textures and flavors make me VERY uncomfortable. I am a VERY picky eater, and while I try new things sometimes, the textures and tastes of some foods actually make me gag 🤢. It also took me the longest time to get used to touching old food on plates when I wash the dishes 🤮. Of course, I’m better about it now, and I’m used to it. I also try to eat as healthy as possible.
This means that I can’t handle changes in my routine very well. I’ve had to deal with a LOT of changes in my life, and to be honest, I shouldn’t be as okay with it as I am now, but I AM okay with it. I’ve learned that things changes for a reason, whether I like it or not, and once you accept this fact, it makes life a WHOLE lot easier. In fact, if it weren’t for the changes that I’ve experienced, then I wouldn’t have the life I have now, the friends I have now, the advantages I have now, etc. I wouldn’t be the person that I am today.
This means that I feel like an outsider sometimes. I’m in high school, and it doesn’t take a genius to realize that I’m different from the other kids. Even with the people I have a lot in common with, I had trouble connecting with them. My friends don’t usually share the same interests as I do, and even when they do, they don’t look at it the way that I do. When I was younger, I thought that having friends was the most important thing in the world. I only had ONE friend in middle school. The harder I tried, the more I alienated myself. After middle school, I moved to a new town and started high school there. After that point, I learned that it’s okay not to have a lot of friends, and some people just weren’t gonna get me, but that was okay. The people who TRULY wanted to get to me reached out to me. I just had to be myself.
This means that I have experienced.....”discrimination” at points in my life. Of course, I was lucky enough not to have this done directly to my face, but it was definitely there. For example, a boy in my math class once said out loud that “autism wasn’t a real thing”, and it made VERY upset. Luckily, things like this only inspired me to work HARDER, to prove that they were wrong.
This means that I get OVERWHELMED. Unlike most kids with autism, it’s not sounds that usually make me upset. Most of the time, it’s usually when I’m overstimulated. This happens. Sometimes I cry. This is NORMAL. It’s NORMAL to get overwhelmed. All I need is a little cool-down time, and I’m fine as wine. Even non-autistic people feel like this sometimes. IT IS NOT A KID’S FAULT IF THEY GET OVERWHELMED SUDDENLY. ITS HOW THEIR BRAINS ARE WIRED.
What DOESN’T this mean?
It doesn’t mean that I’m not capable of doing things myself
I can take care of myself
I know how to do laundry and wash dishes
I know how to cook basic foods
Half of the time, I act more mature than some of the kids in my school
I have a very extensive vocabulary, and I am considered to be very intelligent
If I don’t ask for help with a problem, it’s not because I’m stubborn. It’s because I want to become more independent and solve problems myself rather than rely on other people
If I need help, I WILL ASK FOR IT
Do not help me if I don’t need the help
Do not judge me or base my worth on how my brain was wired
Also, don’t act condescending towards me or treat me like I’m less capable than I actually am
I AM A MINORITY, NOT A CHARITY CASE

I don’t know if this has been said before, but.....
I was re-listening to “Non-Stop”, when I noticed something
In the song, Eliza is begging Alexander not to leave, and he goes “Look around, look around, at how lucky we are to be alive right now.”
This is a phrase that Eliza has taken from her sister, Angelica, someone who she looks up to. This is also obviously a phrase that she uses daily. This is her philosophy.
Eliza is obviously upset that Alexander has to go to work more, and Alexander uses this to WIN THE ARGUMENT. HE FOUGHT ELIZA WITH HER OWN PHILOSOPHY.
That’s why she sings “Helpless.....” and doesn’t argue further with him: Because she’s knows that she can’t argue with her own philosophy.
