“…the pleasure of teaching is an act of resistance…” I laugh A LOT in class. Teaching, being in a learning environment can conjure joy! As I was laughing a lot in today’s contemporary technique class at @lmudance, I remembered the above quote from bell hooks’ introduction in Teaching to Transgress (a foundational pedagogy text, for me). I hope that I can continue, as hooks said, to counter “the overwhelming boredom, uninterest, and apathy that so often characterize the way professors and students feel about teaching and learning, about the classroom experience.” Joy is part of my radical resistance. Thank you Dr. @shamellbell for the reminders. Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to share my dance, film, and choreography practice with: 1. 5th graders at Santa Monica Alternative Schoolhouse (SMASH) via @suarez_dance_theater’s film commission of dance film “…at leisure…” 2.
