That post that's like "stop writing characters who talk like they're trying to get a good grade in therapy" really blew the door wide open for me about how common it's become for a character's emotional intelligence to not be taken into consideration when writing conflict. I remember the first time I went to therapy I had such a hard time even identifying what I was feeling, let alone had the language to explain it to someone else. Of course there are plenty of people who've never been to therapy a day in their life who are in tune to their emotions. But even they would have some trouble expressing themselves sometimes. You have to take into account there are plenty of people who are uncomfortable expressing themselves and people who think they're not allowed to feel certain ways. It also makes for more interesting conflict to have characters with different levels of understanding.

"izuku!"

the humanoid looked up from what he was doing to you, his eyes turning from white to green.

"hello (y/n), um, what do you have there?"

he looks at the horribly hidden item from behind your back. your eyes flickered to his arm, opened on his workbench with all his parts showing.

"it's a surprise. have you finished your repairs yet?"

"close, i'm just tinkering now. my finger wont stop twitching since the last mission and i'm trying to fix it."

you sit in the spinning chair next to him, huffing in frustration and sadness as you replay the events of your guys' last mission. you had let your guard down and he protected you, causing him to get his arm to nearly get blown off. you bang your head on his workbench angrily.

"i'm sorry about that."

with a small chuckle, he placed his free hand reassuringly on your back

"it's not your fault, it's my job to protect you, remember?"

you slowly nodded, peeking your head up at him.

"but if you really wanted to make it up to me, could you hand me my wrench, i cant reach it."

je sheepishly looked away, his eyes turning pink. giggling, you placed the bag with the surprise in it down before getting up. coming back, you gave him the wrench and sat next to him, watching him tinker with his robotic arm. it was probably thirty minutes later when he finished, layering his arm back closed.

"so, about the surprise? "

"oh right, look!"

excitedly, you took a device out of the bag and showed it to him.

"well?"

"i dont know how to display shock on my face yet but i think that's what i'm feeling right now."

you only laughed at him, handing him the device.

"i cant believe you got me a projector, especially one at this quality. this must've cost you a fortune."

"i've been saving. go on, put it in."

izuku tapped the right side of his temple, causing his eyes to turn completely white as a slot appeared. he slowly placed the projector inside, closing it after. he blinked a few times before a green light appeared in the middle of the room. you started fiddling with your watch.

"okay let me just...and then...boom."

jist then, a projection of your face appeared in the middle of the room. you jumped up and down happily before turning the device off. slowly, izuku's eyes returned to his normal emerald green.

"how'd it feel?"

"it felt great, no bugs or anything."

a smile graced both of your guys' faces.

"it better, i had to ration and budget my food for weeks."

immediately, his face fell and his eyes turned blue.

"wait, i'll pay you back. you shouldn't have-"

"no take backs. plus, we literally share money."

"but still-"

izuku continued to fuss and ramble about you wasting your money on him while you just laughed and brushed him off.

Not a request, dw, but I saw that horror movie thing and Dannie saying "I've seen that guy" and my first thought was "what if the person in the reader position had a missing loved one and this was how they found each other again" and just...warm fuzzies, you know?

Sort of a continuation of Mikey's part in this!

“Hey, I know them!”

You tore your gaze away from your phone screen to stare at the mutant turtle sitting behind you, eyes as wide as saucers. Mikey’s phone laid abandoned beside him as he leaned forward to peek over your shoulder at the news article you’d been reading, legs neatly crossed. You hadn’t even noticed him reading off of your screen, too tunnel visioned to feel his presence get closer. He blinked, eyes large and innocent as he smiled sweetly at you, not at all embarrassed at having been caught red handed.

His smile quickly vanished, however, when he noticed your hardened expression. He frowned, straightening up as he took in your tense form.

“What’s wrong?” He asked, growing concern evident in his eyes.

His question snapped you out of your frozen state, and you lurched towards him; shoving the hand holding your phone closer to his face, twisting awkwardly to do so. He flinched back slightly, eyes darting briefly to your phone screen as his brow ridge furrowed in confusion.

“You know them?” You pried, the electrifying burn of anxiety beginning to surge through your veins. It filled your mind with desperate hope of finding them and stole your breath from your lungs, loudly demanding answers with every passing millisecond.

Mikey was quick to answer, perhaps sensing the urgency behind your question. “Yeah- I met them the other day, they needed some help dealing with some silverfish." He answered, voice tinged with confusion. His hand reached out carefully to meet your own and, with the gentleness of holding a baby quail, pressed down to lower your phone away from his face.

"Where are they?" You pressed, allowing him to move your hand as your eyes narrowed ever so slightly. Mikey did not hesitate to answer you again.

"They're down in the hidden city, we helped them get set up in their own place." He said, before frowning at the crestfallen look you gave him. You finally moved back and away from his personal bubble, clutching your phone in both hands.

You gazed down at your phone screen as you inhaled deeply, feeling an all too familiar sting in your throat. "...They moved?" You questioned aloud after a moment; voice tinged with the realization that the person you had been looking for all this time had just up and moved to the mystical city- without so much as a word from them. They'd been right below you this entire time- Mikey had even helped them move in!

Why didn't they even bother to contact you?

Michelangelo stared at you for a few moments, giving you time to process his words before reaching out to cup your chin, lifting it up gently to meet your gaze.

"I can take you to them if you want." He offered softly, his hand moving to cup your cheek, gently brushing his thumb across your skin.

You relaxed into his touch, leaning your cheek further into the palm of his hand and studying his gaze.

“Yeah?” You asked.

“Yeah.” He nodded.

You let out a soft breath, reaching out to cup his cheek- mirroring him- and smiling as he relaxed into your palm as well. He smiled back at you with all the lovely brilliance of sunshine and cloud free skies.

“Thanks Mikey.”

He chirped brightly in response before gathering both of your hands in his own, and practically hopping of the bed- pulling you along with him. “What are we waiting for then, let’s go!” He cheered, rushing out of his room and towards the lairs exit.

You let out a laugh at his sudden enthusiasm, quickly matching his pace with the practiced ease of having done so many times.

The thought occurred to you, as Mikey drew the hidden cities entry rune, that you were finally going to be reunited with them again. All this time spent searching, waiting and wondering about their safety- and all your questions and worries, would finally be answered in just a few moments.

The entry portal to the city glowed brilliantly in the shadows of the alley. Mystic energy swirling through the air to reveal the hidden city before you. Mikey reached over and grasped your hand, looking at you.

"Are you ready?"

You could feel your heartbeat against your chest, memories of them flashing before your very eyes as reality finally set in. With a deep breath in to steady yourself, you met Mikey's gaze and nodded decisively.

The ninja turtle shot you a large grin and tugged you through the mystical threshold. This was it-

You were finally going to see them again.

Hello! I want to preface this by saying: this is mostly from their POV, so their thoughts are very much self-blaming, even if what they think is not at all the case!

Slightly angsty, filled with self blame and anxiety.

Leo feels the weight of this horrible situation crush him like a fallen building.

If only he had just been a little faster- or planned ahead better

Maybe if he had been more serious about his s/o and their safety this never would have happened.

He’s in shock at first when you flinch away from him

Whether or not you were genuinely scared or just shocked at seeing a mutant ninja turtle-

It hurts him all the same because of one thing

The genuine confusion on your face-

No trace of recognition in your gaze

He shuts down for a few moments as his brothers try to figure out what they can do to help

The ringing in his ears grow loud until the high pitch whine is all he can hear

He can’t even see you nor his family in front of him anymore- everything far too blurry

Just vague shapes and blobs of color…

Distorted and unrecognizable

Is that how his s/o saw him??

All he can think is;

He should have gotten to you quicker

He couldn’t even portal to you because he didn’t know where you were.

It’s his fault that you don’t remember him,

Not knowing who he is,

The late night rambles-

Immediately started murmuring the statistics of regaining your memory under his breath

You had to get their memory back- you absolutely had to.

Statistics be damned- he’s making sure it’s a 100% chance.

There’s anxiety gnawing away at him slowly from the inside,

Creeping and burning like static in his bones.

Not even the numerous photos he has of the both of you are helping- maybe it’s just too soon

You did just wake up after all… but why-

Why couldn’t he have prevented this?

All of his fail safes,

The numerous emergency alert devices he gave you,

He weapon he had specifically designed to be easy to conceal and have on you at all times,

Even his GPS tracker-

None of them had worked to keep you safe…

He failed, and this was worse than any experiment exploding in his face.

He failed you and now you have no idea about just how close you two actually are

He will fix this- there’s no room for error this time.

Mikey’s on the verge of waking up the person who was cruel enough to harm you this badly- just so he could beat them up again.

They hurt you- hurt you so bad you can’t even remember his name

Let alone everything you two have been through together

Mikey feels rage

At the situation,

At the villains who did this,

And at himself-

Why hadn’t he been strong enough to stop this?

He can throw buses, skyscrapers even,

He can maneuver his way around places with ease with his razzmatazz mastery

But what was all that strength and skill for if none of it could help you?

He’s frustrated enough to cry

But he’s also the quickest to compose himself

Several deep breaths in and out before he's able to pull himself together enough to crouch down beside his beloved s/o

Gently reassures you that he means no harm,

That you were in a bad fight and letting you slowly collect yourself.

He also uses photos- but rather than doing this to specifically try to jog his s/o's memories,

It's more to show them that they actually do know him-

Trying to get your memories back can wait for later,

His main focus is making sure his s/o is calm and comfortable around him- at least enough to trust that he won't harm them.

Once you feel that they can trust him- even if only a little bit,

He'll take you home and make sure you're alright physically.

Later on, he sneaks off quietly to the gym area

Demolishes the punching bag they had-

All of his worries and frustrations are taken out with every punch

Would you ever remember him?

If you never regained your memories, is there any chance you two would ever have the relationship you once had again??

They're going to need more punching bags,

All the extra ones are destroyed too.

His family is worried, but Mikey is only focused on two things;

Helping you remember him and getting revenge for you.

He will make sure this won't ever happen again.

And now you can’t remember a single thing about him, your relationship together, nothing.

RAPH is still able to move and check on you-

Though, it’s more like hovering worriedly while Donnie and Leo do their best to patch you up

He is watching like a hawk, making sure that you’re in no additional discomfort or pain

Once you’re clear enough to be able to go home though

Raph is stressing

If you leave now you could get hurt again!

But he doesn’t want to scare you off by being too overbearing

Especially if he wants any chance of you remembering him-

He can’t cause you to feel uncomfortable around him- or worse

Frightened.

He’s able to stop his anxiety fueled spiral before it consumes him

Focusing on making you’re you get home safely

Even if you decline having him walk with you-

He’ll make sure to follow stealthily from a distance

Once he’s certain you’re absolutely safe and sound

He’s pacing around the lair and pulling at his mask

What if you don’t remember him?

Donnie said you likely just had “mild amnesia” but what if it was worse?!

There’s a chance you’ll never be able to remember him-

And it’s all his fault…

He couldn’t protect you

It all boils down to one simple fact ringing in his head:

He wasn’t there

…

He’ll make sure he’s always there

He will be there for you.

I wonder what it would be like for Splinter if he fell in love? This isn't an xreader thing, for obvious reasons. It's just a scenario I haven't really seen explored for his character, and I'm curious how you'd portray it.

Hello! I wasn’t sure which version of Splinter you wanted, so I did both! Also, I could write a splinter x reader if someone requested it (not sure what you meant by 'obvious reasons' /lh), I did not make this one a splinter x reader tho ^^

2012 Splinter

Oh Hamato Yoshi, a man of so little yet so many words-

It takes him a bit to actually fall in love

He is hesitant about pursuing another romantic relationship

Is genuinely traumatized from his last one

Rightfully so, he saw his wife die, daughter as well (or so he thought for years) all at the hands of someone he onced called his brother- only to get mutated soon after.

Yeah… not a very good experience…

But when he falls, he is absolutely devoted to his person

He is very formal, approaching his crush in a gentlemanly manner

Is kinda old fashioned

The type to bring flowers and open doors for his partner

When he was with Tang Shen, he ended up losing sight of what was important

And became very distant and dismissive

He knows better now, and makes sure to go out of his way to pay attention

He does still struggle though,

Often choosing to meditate over quality time

As his relationship grows, however, he becomes better at being present.

Makes sure to set time aside for his partner

He doesn’t mind doing whatever, but he does prefer quieter activities-

A drama show perhaps, or drinking tea together.

As he becomes more relaxed in his relationship-

His playful side emerges

And surprisingly- he can be very goofy

I mean- he has a cheese phone in a glass case. He chose that. It’s meant for serious emergencies- you can’t tell me he wasn’t making a joke about his current mutation.

He tells dad jokes- really corny ones too

And his laugh is a full-on belly laugh where he throws his head back

He enjoys making his beloved laugh,

Will sometimes even ask Michelangelo for any new jokes to tell!

Overall, he's very sweet, goofy and old-fashioned with his partner,

He is also incredibly protective- perhaps a bit over protective

But considering the fact that he and his family are being hunted down by the man who killed his last wife-

His over protectiveness is warranted.

Does NOT take chances- if his beloved is captured, he is going there and demolishing anyone who gets in his way.

Makes sure his beloved is okay, before taking them home to curl up and watch some old drama show

Cheese-sicles included.

Rise Splinter

This may or may not come as a surprise-

But I honestly think it takes him a while to truly fall in love with someone

I feel like he has some trust issues

Definitely has high walls when it comes to relationships

Being a popular celebrity back in day taught him a thing or two about letting people get too close

Most people were usually only after him for his fame and fortune-

Looking to use him to rise to the top themselves

So he made sure to keep a decent distance

Until Big Mama of course

Which only made his trust issues 100x worse.

If he were to fall in love again, it would only be after a long time

There needs to be a very strong, and very solid foundation of trust

He would like to avoid being locked up and forced to fight to the death again, thank you very much.

On top of his trust issues-

He has major abandonment issues

If he ever went through with trying to have another relationship,

There would need to be a lot of communication-

Lots of working on and assuring him that his partner isn’t going anywhere.

As for his behavior??

He’s very avoidant in a rather outgoing way

It’s kinda weird to witness actually

The second he realizes he actually has romantic feelings for someone- he’s panicking

Tries to avoid them but also makes sure to be nice

He’s nowhere in sight whenever his crush is around but if they happen to catch him?

He’s chatting up a storm, sitting them down for a cup of tea or some food

Casually handing them a slice of pizza and once their attention is on it

Poof- vanished from sight once they turn around.

Once he starts actually giving a relationship a try though??

Man is whipped with a capital W

THE BIGGEST SIMP EVER

Quality time??? Physical touch???? GIFT GIVING??!?!?!!

His crush is getting it all

Quality time is an absolute must, he always wants to be around them no matter what it is they’re doing.

Knitting? He’s there.

2am snacks?? He already has their favorite

Movie time???? He made sure his projector is completely repaired AND made the couch the comfiest spot ever.

Loves to cuddle and hold hands, generally likes to be in contact with his beloved in anyway he can

Will even wrap his tail around one of their limbs if his hands are full

*cough* or if he’s too lazy to move from his comfy position *cough*

And on top of that?? He actually has decent money from his time as Lou Jitsu

He can and will have his sons help him figure out online ordering.

His beloved is getting any and everything they want

Only the best for them, he makes sure to buy top quality items

A lot of the gifts are an eyesore to look at though- his personal taste is…. intense…

Thankfully, his family helps him out.

Overall a very attentive, but clingy, partner

Will proudly boast about his beloved to anyone who asks (or doesn’t)

Has one of those wallets with the long long photo strips

He shoves them in everyone’s faces

hey just to clear something up: it’s okay to want notes on your fics or your art or gifsets or character analyses or whatever you’ve put your time into and shared. it’s okay to want people to acknowledge your hard work, and if you post it on this site the only way you actually know people are enjoying it is if they interact with it. that doesn’t make you greedy or whatever. you can write/draw/etc something for yourself and also be upset if doesn’t do as well as you thought it would. i see so many people say, “I know I shouldn’t care about notes…” and that’s just not fair to yourself. this is a social media site. you’re not wrong for wanting the social part of it.
