the frev community on Tumblr is just such a fascinating phenomenon to me. Like, it behaves much like a fandom in the classic sense of memes and fanfiction and fanart, but at the same time there's also serious historical discussion and analysis and I think that's wonderful. I do wonder, are there other specific historical periods/eras/Events that have fandoms/fandom like bodies? The American revolution for sure, largely thanks to Hamilton, but are there any others?

genuine question but WHY does devildom need a military??? ik its not canon but they do have a navy which like i get bc the navy like saves ppl in the ocean and stuff but that also implies they have an army, airforce, marines, etc. its prob bc of the celestial war but idk i think its a little silly (in a bad way)

here is my 2 cents on the jamil and kalim situation that nobody asked for but because of my twisted history brain i have to make
i’ve seen the argument that jamil is a slave or an indentured servant, and i see both sides of the argument. he wasn’t born into freedom and there is no promise of freedom once he serves his family’s debt (whatever that means) but he’s also technically paying a debt, his family’s debt that has been going on for generations but a debt nonetheless, and this is where i think people split off into their respective groups. i’ve seen somebody comment that this is just ‘semantics’ ITS NOT!!! indentured servitude implies something MUCH different than slavery, especially if we look at it in a historical context. specifically in America, indentured servants were brought from Europe (China, if we’re talking about chinese indentured servants) and eventually freed once their ‘debt’ was paid, this is not meant to undermine their struggle, as im sure indentured servants were treated horribly, but enslaved people literally had no way out. it implies something MUCH different than indentured servitude, it implies that jamil has no way out of his situation, which from what ive seen is true. so we aren’t really able to classify jamil as an indentured servant but he’s not exactly a slave either, all we know is that his family is still paying off their debt to the al-asims, so this leaves him in this weird limbo.
i don’t fully blame kalim, jamil has misplaced anger towards him instead of the monarchy in general (monarchies SUCK even in twst where they’re portrayed as mostly good) but damn it’s kind of hard to blame the guy when his power and autonomy have been taken from him his entire life. does this mean you can entirely forgive kalim and his obliviousness? NO! his obliviousness to jamils situation is the behavior of SO MANY RICH PEOPLE, he’s not completely at fault, his family before him is, but his attitude towards jamil both before and after does not exempt him from his impact. i could talk about the implications of calling jamil a slave or an indentured servant and how they affect the way you view his actions in book 4, but this post is already way too long. ik a lot of this has been said before, but i think jamils label is more than just semantics, it’s essential to how we view and justify his actions.
