Rewatched an episode from s14 and got the starkest reminder of why I've never rewatched the last 3 seasons

Just thinking of Cas gradually sticking around less after his betrayal in s6 and even less than that after Dean kicks him out of the bunker in s9, because he thinks he's not worth anything if he isn't being useful.

Thinking of Dean gradually inviting Cas to hang out less after Hester's "the very touch of you corrupts" and even less after Cas loses his grace over and over again to save Dean, because he blames himself for destroying Cas with his love for him.

Thinking of how one of Dean's greatest fears is killing the people he loves and Cas' greatest fear is being a burden, and how both of them have had those fears confirmed several times over.

Thinking of how Cas sacrificing himself to the empty was the greatest act of both of their greatest fears at once.

Cas believes his worst fears and insecurities have finally been confirmed.

they shouldve let cas get weirder with it. sticking his head in dean’s space to sniff his breath as a greeting (he keeps an ongoing rundown of the current state of his body vis a vis health). licking blood off his fingers after palming dean to heal bloody wounds. dean losing a tooth in a fight and informing him it will be no trouble at all to regrow he rebuilt dean’s decomposed corpse (helpfully informing him he was in a state of advanced decay) (he pockets the tooth). licking cuts shut while infodumping about the analgesic effects of saliva. asking dean if he’s having difficulty with his bowel movements he took an extra 5 minutes in the bathroom this morning. staring at dean’s torso with a glazed distant look and dean going okay clark cool it with the panty scan (he’s looking at the carvings he wrote into dean’s ribs again)

what i’m trying to say is that eileen and cas have “girl’s nights” where they do hot girl shit without their husbands every once in a while and that sam is capable of being normal about this but dean is not. dean wants to go with his husband everywhere and doesn’t get why the girl’s nights can’t include him.

I feel like the line “I left but you didn’t stop me” is an impactful line for many reasons but my reason for going crazy over it is because it’s one of the few times cas communicates what he wants dean to do. Not only that, but i think it’s the first time dean is ever introduced to the idea or entertains the thought process that cas doesn’t want to leave. Like every time before when cas has left them (but in deans mind it’s just leaving him) it’s always seemed like something that he wanted, that he wanted to go. Mainly because cas has never expressed the opposite since he expects himself to be dispensable, so his first line of help is always offering his assistance somewhere else in an effort to be needed. Obviously dean sees this as cas aching to distance himself in any way possible, always on the run from them(him) and deans thinking he’s always dragging cas back kicking and screaming. But in that scene cas is saying exactly what he wants and surprisingly to dean, his wants reflect what he wants, So this is maybe the first time dean is thinking “oh maybe I’m not selfish and clingy for always wanting him back, maybe he wants to be brought back. Wants to be asked back, maybe even from me specifically ”

#team dean & cas would be obnoxiously clingy when they finally got together. like sam has to step over cas' legs sprawled in the hallway because dean's in the bathroom and he's sitting against the door so they can chat

9x03 and 9x06 rewrite where dean passes cas a note while he’s kicking him out that says “not safe here - meet you at garth’s” and by the time he gets to garth’s place, garth bess and cas have all managed to become besties. garth and cas go on hunts together and there’s a scene that heavily implies that theyve shared a bed on cases before and cas takes care of the kids when bess is busy and dean is soooooo mad about it he’s so so mad that garth stole cas and garth doesn’t know that dean is fuming he’s just happy to be on a case with his two best buddies whom he loves

clingy dean scenario #57: post canon there is a party with sam and eileen’s hunter friends they have made while dean and cas are retired. but dean and cas still end up going. dean is just on top of cas the whole party bc he saw one of eileen’s friends “eyeing cas up.” it escalates all night. at first dean is just holding cas’ waist and. then its deans glued behind cas with his arms looped around cas’ waist and his face buried in cas’ neck. dean starts peppering light kisses at cas’ jaw and neck. and the whole time cas is just socializing and talking to people and other hunters like normal. but dean isnt saying anything to anyone. he’s just stuck to cas’ back fixated on kissing his neck/jaw and shoving his nose in the crook of cas’ neck. everyone not in their immediate circle is like weirded out and when talking to cas they keep shooting glances at dean but cas just keeps talking bc its just dean being clingy as he has been since cas got back from the empty. eventually the guy “eyeing cas up” comes to chat. thats when dean starts biting and leaving hickeys.

dean’s a bit of a pool shark and also a bit of a gambler. it doesn’t really show it all the time, but it’s definitely implied that there are poker games and pool matches that they can win some money on. and who knows? dean’s a promiscuous kind of guy. who knows how he drums up the funds that they use? - JENSEN ACKLES, TV WEEK 2008
