Pieces for Peace
Pieces for Peace
----------
We are but a jigsaw puzzle
Assigned to our name
Pieces uniquely cut
Our parents construct the frame
----------
Pieces unsorted
Waiting to be placed
Upside down --- unknown
Unequally spaced
----------
Each new experience
An attempt to assemble
Slowly taking shape
Your life to resemble
----------
Some fit in with ease
Remaining in place till the end
Supporting the other pieces
Our family and friends
----------
Overjoyed to complete a section
Starting with one piece – a 'date'
Assembling the pieces around
Finding our spouse – our soul mate
----------
It is hoped all pieces fit perfectly
Moving through life with ease
But there is no 'true' fulfillment
When we do as 'we' please
----------
For many pieces are never meant to fit
Yet we try over and over again
Our personal and professional failures
Relationships we cannot sustain
----------
Turning the same pieces many times
Forces us to look beyond what is there
Bringing our puzzle to life
Through patience, love and prayer
Some pieces are left for years
Never turned over - - often ignored
Sometimes a lifetime
Waiting to be explored
-----------
For every jigsaw puzzle
Is a blessing to behold
To capture each journey
Your story to be told
----------
And as the puzzle ages
The frame - our parents - now comes loose
A surgery, a fall, a diagnosis
New pieces get introduced
----------
Another new section added
Caring for them pulls pieces apart
Trying to repair the frame
Rebuilding breaks our heart
----------
Slowly we put pieces back together
The puzzle no longer the same
We are now the parent
Our pieces move to the frame
----------
Yet some pieces become locked in
No longer can you interchange
Our loved ones no longer with us
Our puzzle we cannot change
----------
Grateful if we still have the pieces
And the time to put them back in place
Redefining relationships
Recognizing each piece needs its space
----------
As your puzzle continues
Layers of life take on a new form
Understanding 'piece for peace'
Your puzzle beautifully transforms
----------
Provide thanks daily
For the puzzle you were assigned
Understand how precious your pieces are
And the puzzle you will design
----------
Leave no piece unturned
Make sure you put them all in place
Reflect on your earthly journey
With humility and grace
----------
For all the jigsaw pieces
Are meant to be attached together
Your puzzle becomes your legacy
Left behind for others forever
----------
The opportunity to tell your story
For generations to come
How each piece was assembled
About the person you did become
----------
Each puzzle the same master
Our Lord God above
Guiding your assembly
Through faith, hope, and love
----------
A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.
Proverbs 16:9

For all the grandparent’s on Father’s Day . . . written from the grandmother’s eyes - to the grandfather (Papa) . . . See link for full poem
Happy Papa’s Day
Our hearts so filled with joy
We don’t know whether it will melt or burst
A love unto its own

Happy Papa’s Day
Happy Papa's Day
----------
Did you ever imagine
When you took me as your wife
That the raising of our children
Would transform our life?
----------
We've been by their side
Every step of the way
Now following their own path
Their safety we daily pray
----------
And just when we thought
Their childhood days were done
We were blessed beyond words
With a precious grandson
----------
Our hearts so filled with joy
We don't know whether it will melt or burst
A love unto its own
How did we not have grandchildren first?
----------
Because this is God's most precious gift
One bestowed when we have matured
When our life has fewer distractions
Where we can cherish the time we devote just to nurture
----------
With so much wisdom and patience
Seeing this child through a different lens
Hanging on every sound, movement and smile
Our kindness and grace continues to transcend
----------
For this child truly humbles us
Turning us back to the simple pleasures
Another generation that started with us
Heaven's earthly treasures
----------
We look through our grandchild's eyes
As we just sit and play
Priceless moments of wonderment
Happy Papa's Day
----------
He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.
Matthew 18: 2-5

I am the Dragonfly . . . see blog for full poem . . .
My life now in harmony
Balancing my spirit and soul
Living my morals and values
Reconnecting to life's simple goals

Text
I am the Dragonfly
I am the Dragonfly
----------
I look in the mirror
Finally able to see
My purpose in life
Who I want to be
----------
Gaining new perspective
Decades of chapters and layers
Maturing with each experience
Taking responsibility for my emotional care
----------
My vision no longer impaired
Seeing beyond the persons I meet
Recognizing true motives
Conscious of illusions through deceit
----------
It is "I" who must transition
Adapting to how I should live
Finding power through being in control
Making the decision to forgive
----------
My life now in harmony
Balancing my spirit and soul
Living my morals and values
Reconnecting to life's simple goals
----------
I am the power of change
Now poised, with elegance & grace
Inspiring others through my shining light
Illumination through my warm embrace
----------
Time has created capacity
To evolve into my 'new norm'
Adapting to a synergy of peace
I have now been transformed
----------
Finding new strength and courage
Nourishing my soul to cope
Surrendering control to our Creator
With His eternal victory as my hope
----------
I thank God for what I cannot see
Believing in the power on high
Reconnecting and transforming myself
I am the dragonfly
----------
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:2

living with mental health . . . watching those you love live in daily pain.
I execute the plan
But realize no success
So angry I am still alive
Loved ones around feeling so blessed

. . . living with mental health
How Can I Love Myself?
--------
It started with a secret
So long ago
Growing as I aged
Eating at my soul
--------
Consuming my thoughts
What if someone knows?
New feelings emerge
Disgust leading to self-loathe
--------
How can I love myself?
To others I begin to berate
My inward feelings expressed outward
My energy turns to hate
--------
I feel alone and insecure
Full of despair and self-doubt
No longer am I in control
Everyone realizing what I'm all about
--------
I tell myself I'm done
My mind at constant war
Trivial events become enormous
I can go on no more
--------
My thoughts become obsessions
On a vision of my fate
A road to self-destruction
With no defined time or date
--------
No matter what people say
I cannot see my gifts or self-worth
I am imprisoned
Planning my departure from this earth
--------
I execute the plan
But realize no success
So angry I am still alive
Loved ones around feeling so blessed
--------
For it is yet another failure
More secrets to unpack
Actions taken and words spoken
I can never take back
--------
How Can We Love You More?
--------
So where do you go from here?
You have one of two roads to choose
Hopefully embracing the second chance
And all you had to lose
--------
Fearing a recurrence
For you already have the plan
Your pain and sorrow still remain
You could choose this option again
--------
We as your loved ones disconcerted
At a loss for what to do
Not understanding why
Wanting only the best for you
--------
We know you're pain is real
Not sure how this will all unfold
Our love for you is unconditional
Walking beside you down this road
--------
For it is your personal journey
To put the pieces back together
Each milestone piece a celebration
To remain in place forever
--------
We will get you the help
Express how much we care
Offer resources and emotional support
Forevermore be there
--------
And knowing that in the end
It is ultimately your choice
We love you no matter what
And you always have a voice
--------
Learn to surrender control
From our Lord God above
He will take all your fears and anxieties
And turn them into love
--------
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

My anxiety leads to depression & despair
With only one solution putting me at peace
My life would be much better off
If only I were deceased
go to blog (see below) for full poem titled ‘A Whole New World’

Text
A Whole New World
A Whole New World
--------
It starts with a thought
Seeing no way out
Life is so complicated
What’s this world all about?
--------
Thoughts become obsessions
No longer can I sleep or eat
Voices so real in my mind
Seeing death as victory . . . not defeat
--------
My anxiety leads to depression & despair
With only one solution putting me at peace
My life would be much better off
If only I were deceased
--------
I methodically prepare a plan
Without a time or a date
But now that the decision has been made
It's as if it were always my fate
--------
Although I will leave subtle signs
They will appear significant only when I am gone
Sometimes a note left by my side
Wondering where you went wrong
-------
Yet I have not the forethought to consider
Those I have left behind
Your pain, your sorrow, your guilt
Grasping for rationale you will never find
--------
Where did you go wrong?
How could you have loved me differently?
To change my innermost thoughts and feelings
Telling me how the end should be
--------
But you had no influence or control
Of the outcome that long ago began
For the argument, fight or disagreement
Was not why I activated the plan
--------
Nor was it our last interaction together
So full of peace and love
But it gave me the courage to be brave
Praying to our God above
--------
To take me to a whole new world
Free from burdens where life is serene
With a Shepherd always by my side
Where loved ones would have been
--------
I will now be your protector
Even though we are apart
Please call upon my spirit
Found deep within your heart
--------
I want you to remember me fondly
When you hear my favourite songs
When you prepare my favourite foods
When you are teaching right from wrong
--------
Know that it was your unconditional love
That has once again made me feel whole
And for the first time I feel normal
In my now eternal soul
---------
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23 (NKJV)

Happy Mother’s Day
Happy Mother's Day
God's Gift
God sent His 'angels'
From the heavens above
To give selflessly of themselves
Through unconditional love
------------
To carry our burdens
Understanding what we don't say
With a heart that always knows
Whispering lips that always pray
------------
Placing our happiness & success
Before their own
Teaching & guiding through faith
So we never walk alone
------------
Wanting nothing in return
But to feel our warm embrace
Through a hug or a kiss
Just to see our smiling face
------------
These 'angels' are women
With a strength like no other
A treasure bestowed to children
The priceless gift of a mother
------------
This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it
Psalm 118:24

Light One Candle
A new white candlewick
Standing straight, pure and strong
Full of trust and without judgment
Until ‘life’s fire’ comes along
____________
Your journey starts with the light
Ignited onto this earth
Each fire a special gift
The blessing of a birth
______________
The wick is now surrounded
With a glorious eternal flame
Like a cocoon that’s there to protect
Our Father is His name
_____________
The crown of the flame undefined
Displaying the radiant light
Like Our Father above
A pure and perfect white
______________
A blue flame on the bottom
Infused to the One above
Holding the wick forever in His arms
Jesus - full of faith, hope and love
_______________
A luminous shadow surrounding the wick
Enclosing the candle lit
There for your daily challenges
Our Protector the Holy Spirit
______________
The teardrop shape now formed
The celestial flame moves as One
For you cannot come to the Father
Except through the divine Son
__________________
The wick soon begins to discolour
With the temptations of evil we face
Aslant from being downtrodden
The weight of the world with an unfathomable pace
___________________
Yet in the wick tip there remains a spark
A symbol of hope for our weakened soul
For the spark leads to the eternal flame
That will connect our mind & body as a whole
_________________
Accept this burning candle
As I commit to You and do my part
May I always walk in Your way
Your burning light guiding my heart
____________________
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world:
he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Two normal men who accomplished extraordinary tasks - ‘heroes’. It was a privilege to listen to Captain Martin Maxwell - WWII hero and Dr. (Major) Ken Hedges - one of the four men (last survivor) that successfully travelled the British Trans-Arctic Expedition (North Pole) arriving in 1969
