Artist: M83 Track: Wait Album: Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
Every once and a while a song will come along that causes me to stop dead in my tracks... force me to listen. Last year, it was this. I was walking home from the L-Train on Graham after a rough day. Started listening to this album. 5 tracks in, it hits me like a bag of bricks. The quietness of the track in the beginning. The echo of the chorus. The lyrics. All of it. So encompassing of everything I was feeling at the time. The drums coming in at 3 minutes and 28 minutes. The wailing of 4 minutes and 10 seconds in. I began to tear up and I could try to explain why, but I really wouldn't be able to find the words... recreate the moment. It was a release. The feeling that someone somewhere could possibly relate to what I feeling at the corner of Ainslie St. The return of the quiet at 5 minutes and 24 seconds.

Artist: Holly Herndon Track: Movement Album: Movement
Still in the process of warming up to the album, but this video is definitely a standout for me this year. The music video seems to be a dying breed as far as creativity goes. Fuzzy effects with lots of zooming in and out.. still shots of nature... people grinding on each other. I could go on. In any case, it's refreshing to see someone take the time to actually put together something that acts more as art rather than another cliche.

Artist: WIllow Track: Sweater Willow's "Sweater" is one of the stand out music videos I've come across this year. Everything was shot in a single studio using 3 beamers projecting onto a floor and two walls. The video was directed by Filip Sterckx, illustrating a day's journey without ever leaving the room.

Next View - Nujabes (feat. Uyama Hiroto)
Nujabes is perfect for chill rainy days. When rain is smacking against the window and droplets keep swaying down. When all you want to do is stay at home and bathe in relaxing rhythms. When your life is calm and you just want to bask in it’s wonder. Nujabes’ beats jivin’ Uyama Hiroto’s jazz is the definition of tranquility.
“Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul.” -Martin Luther

Another Brilliant Video From Woodkid
Yoann Lemoine, also known as Woodkid, seemed to come out of nowhere last year with an amazing song and video for "Iron." Who would have thought that a song featured in the trailer of a videogame would have such legs? Last month, he made his return with another visually stunning video, this time for his single "Run Boy Run." Here's to hoping the album comes out soon... and is paired with a ridiculous amount of artwork.

Frank Ocean Opens Up About Sexuality
In a Tumblr post uploaded early this morning, Frank Ocean opens up about his new album and sexuality. The post was meant to appear in the liner notes of "Channel Orange," but with rumors heightening over the past few weeks, he decided to speak about it now.
"4 summers ago, I met somebody. I was 19 years old. He was too. We spent that summer, and the summer after, together. Every day almost, and on the day we were together, time would glide. Most of the day I'd see him, and his smile. By the time I realized I was in love, it was malignant. It was hopeless," - Frank Ocean

CHLLNGR - "Datter Yalls Remix"
CHLLNGR hails from Denmark and is a synth-heavy, soulful producer who's had quite the rising. His debut album, Haven, went down as one of my favorite finds in 2011 and he's yet to disappoint 2012. Check out the new remix for his track "Datter" below.

Supreme Cuts "Lessons of Darkness (Apology)"
(via XLR8R)
"One could practically cough on the dense, atmospheric production Supreme Cuts exhibits; humid drums emerge from the smoke only to burst through in a sparkling display of celestial melodies and pop sensibility." - Cam Curran

Artist: Mati Zundel Track: El Alto de La Paz Album: Amazonico Gravitante
I know it's only April, but I think it's safe to say that one of my favorite albums of 2012 will easily be Mati Zundel's 'Amazonico Gravitante.' A fan since discovering his mixtape When I Dance The Earth Trembles, I have been patiently awaiting the release of a proper follow-up... and alas it is here. A flawless combination of heavy electronica, cumbia, and South American culture has come together to make an album perfect for those summer parties here in Brooklyn... or those simple summer nights with friends. All in all, you simply can't go wrong with this album, and it needs to be incorporated into some (if not all) aspects of your life. Click play and take a listen to "El Alto de La Paz." Trust me... you'll be a better (and much more fun) person for it.
