Tell Me Everything by Erika Krouse
instagram
Another Libby find.
It's that time of the month and this week has been a little rough. I was demotivated and unfocused. Also frustrated because I kinda butchered some work-related stuff. It feels like everything is in clutter. So I'm hoping this one pulls me out of this melancholy. 🌻

Yes Please by Amy Poehler
I knew Amy Poehler from the movie Mean Girls and the sitcom Parks and Rec, which I both love. So I got curious when I saw her book while browsing Libby. A girl's gotta try!

My 2022 in a nutshell
It's been a few months since my last update. I have so much I want to write about, but I almost always feel tired whenever I try to write or have too much on my plate - I never even started to expound the ideas in my mind. Even now - the post-Christmas and the pre-new-year week I always allot for self-reflection was taken away by work. My mind is just elsewhere and everywhere. So I'm planning to use a journal again this coming 2023. I hope that it will, again, help declutter my mind.
It was a challenging year for me. I set an ultimatum to myself last year that if there's no progress with my boyfriend, I will end things and move on. Weak-minded that I am, I was not able to break things off. Instead, I received another challenge - a challenge I detest the most! Apologies were said with the same promises, and again, I fell for it. So here I am, engaged, unsure but looking forward to the future because the challenge we've just overcome strengthened our relationship. We're now at a stage where it's not all about romance anymore; we chose to stay.
After some realization that I was leaving nothing for myself, I felt drained. As if my soul was sucked dry. I lost the part of me that cared for my loved ones. I unknowingly detach myself from these people. Everything feels different now. I learned to love myself more and not let others use my kindness. The biggest lesson this year is to set boundaries even with your family. There's only so much you can give.
I want to leave behind all the negative emotions I had this year - but not the lesson it comes with. I'm leaving the pain but not forgetting why it happened and the changes which made me who I am today. I'm thankful for all the eye-openers, opportunities, and achievements 2022 has given me. I'll strive to be better this 2023 and the succeeding years.
I'm looking forward to 2023. I'm hopeful and ready to take on another year!

The Sandman Season 1 (2022)
The TV show adaptation of the original comic by Neil Gaiman - The Sandman, was released on August 5, 2022, on Netflix.
I was not exposed to comic books when I was young, so I had no idea about them. I did learn about The Sandman from Regina Belmonte, but I never had the chance to read them. I was thrilled when I heard about the adaption and looked forward to its release!

⚠️SPOILERS AHEAD⚠️
The Sandman Season 1 Review:
I intentionally watched the series without prior knowledge of its universe. I won't compare it based on its adaptation. However, I like that there is no shortage of human complexity, such as sexual preference, race, and moral ambiguity.
The battle between Lucifer and Morpheus is impressive, especially the words and their manifestation! The CGI of visual depiction of their words makes it so much better.
I liked the talk between Dream and Death. Why do we fear death, indeed?
Desire's character seems interesting. So far, the visuals of the statue, the glistening red room, and the ensemble are very fit for the character. How much trouble will he give to Dream?
The diner incident with the ruby seemed like I was watching a different show. That was a roller-coaster and unexpected ride.
That's it for now. I'm looking forward to meeting the other siblings, Nada's story, another battle with Lucifer, Dream's baby through Hector and Lyta, and a frail-emo-looking Morpheus.

Dios Mabalos, Mt. Mayon!
I just got back from Bicol Region for work. It was my first time visiting the region so I was excited to see the Mayon. Of course, it is wise to grab the opportunity to also visit nearby tourist destinations. So, here are the places I visited during my stay.
The perfect cone of the Mayon volcano is literally majestic! Its description on the internet is an understatement! It was looming over you like a backdrop while you were in the middle of the city. I went to Cagsawa church, a 10-15 minute ride from Legazpi City. The church fell into ruins because of the Mayon volcano eruption. I wish we have a tour guide because I love hearing stories about the places I go to!
Here is the Cagsawa church ruins.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also went to Sumlang Lake. It could have been a perfect spot to capture the majestic cone but unluckily the Mayon was kind of shy that day. It's sad because the locals have a superstition that the Mayon shows its beauty and perfect cone only to those with a pure heart.
In Sumlang, there are weavers that produces export quality products such as carpets, table runners and placemats, vases and so much more!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also went to FarmPlate where you can chill, eat and relax picnic-style. They provide free banigs you can use to sit on the ground. We stayed here the most because it has a nice view of Mayon at an elevated location and it has a lot of instagramable areas.
Tumblr media
Here are the restaurants we went to eat:
SmallTalk. It's a house remodelled to be a restaurant so it really has a homey vibes. The food was great - I love their ribs and chicken cordon bleu.
Sibid-sibid Food Park. The place is very native and dim-lighted but the food is also great! The Kinunot is a must-try!
Zoe's Kitchen. The food was okay. There's nothing special here. I think they are famous for the laing pizza or pasta. Anyway, we didn't get to try those.

The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure (2022)
Original title: Haejeok: Dokkaebi Gitbal
Director: Kim Jeon-hoon
Synopsis: A treasure map accidentally obtained by a group of bandits and pirates leads to an adventure filled with mutiny, nature's wrath, and fighting off despicable warriors.
Thoughts: The lack of plot, character depth and average visual effects was outshined by its gold comedic timing and delivery. I'm willing to give it 8 stars because it's my kind of comedy!

Beware The Dark-Eyed Observer
1st Story from the Tales For A Rainy Season
Synopsis:
The story is about Janella, a daughter of a politician involved in graft and corrupt practices. She was subjected to a terrorizing, mutilating, and supposed commiserating experience that will hopefully turn her choices a little bit better in the future.
Thoughts:
Was Shakey's the go-to after-party spot for the rich?
Anyways, the political background of the story is apt as I am reading this few weeks post-election where Marcos Jr. won the presidency. The story is a condensed version of Saw. There was a person hidden behind a carabao animation talking to Janella, he can be called the dark-eyed observer (DEO). There were also other masked persons who act to do the bidding of the DEO. When Janella finally reunited with her mom and her henchmen, the mom commented on Janella's appearance and I was so confused! So, everything really happened? I was guessing that all of it was just a delusion!
I get the symbolism where she had to beg for Piattos (lol it's funny to read local brands in books) when she was braving the storm and came across a looter. I don't get the boy with a dead cat and the man who called her while she was running. What are they supposed to be? Maybe I'll get it after a few days or after rereading those scenes or maybe there's nothing really special - it's just there as part of the story.
I'm half-hearted with this story, it's neither like nor dislike. It feels like it wanted to tell us more but the lack of time and pages doesn't allow it?

Wetlands (2013)
Original Title: Feuchtgebiete
Director: David Wnendt
Synopsis: Wetlands is a German film adapted from a book of the same title. The story is about a young girl named Helen (Carla Juri) who is a daughter of a divorced family. She’s a self-professed unhygienic girl who, as clearly depicted in the movies, has a questionable and disgusting habit. One day, she cut herself while shaving and was admitted to a hospital for an operation. There she met her charming nurse named Robin (Christoph Letkowski). While staying at the hospital, she’s trying to seduce Robin and instigate the reconciliation of her parents.
Thoughts: My eyes are half-open for the most part of the movie because of some nasty, out of ordinary habits involving bodily fluids. I am not unfamiliar with this kind of film but, man, the cringe never gets old! I appreciate how some stuff was tackled in a manner that I realized why is it distasteful to make it a topic even with friends.
Soiled panty is the least of concern when you have blood running from your nose, ears, eyes, or wherever from an accident or any emergency.
It’s shameful to have hemorrhoids. Well, I bet I’ll also be embarrassed if I have one.
To sit or to squat when peeing in a public restroom.
Unwashed stuff toy. It’s funny how the teddy of Helen’s brother was so stiff from being unwashed that it looked like it underwent taxidermy.
Reconciling with your past that subconsciously affects who you are today.
I liked the movie even though it has several disgusting moments. 😊

Love Death + Robot (Favorite Episodes from Seasons 1-3)
I was trying to link my review on Seasons 1 and 2 of Love Death + Robot with the latest season when I realized I made a rookie mistake of not backing up a copy of my previous Tumblr page. Yikes!
What’s lost is lost but my favorites remain the same.
S01 E07 - Beyond the Aquila Rift
Synopsis: A man discovers truths and lies after waking up from a long slumber.
Thoughts: What I love about this episode is the twist reveal, the intention, and the reality that we have our own truths we wanted to believe to hide the ugly facts.
S02 E08 – The Drowned Giant
Synopsis: A dead man’s body subjected to the curious eyes of a small-town folks.
Thoughts: It always strikes me how we always get curious yet careful in approaching new things in life. With a little accustoming, we lose interest and leave things but not without a piece to remember.
S03 E09 – Jibaro
Synopsis: A knight took on the mystical siren in the battle of preservation and greed.
Thoughts: A conquistador theme that did great in personifying the conquests of the indigenous’ home and life. It clearly showcased betrayal, revenge, and greed which all lead to the destruction of something beautiful.
I like watching the episodes of this series as most of them are open-ended and thought-provoking.

Kanji Journey
Tumblr media
Kanji has been a big obstacle for me and learning it seems very tedious and tiring to the point of my brain rejecting it.
Now that I'm using WaniKani, I've been religiously reviewing every night or else I will instantly forget what I've learned! WaniKani's approach is effective for me, it's easier to memorize with the spacing of time between study and review.
However, despite this good news, I'm way behind with my LingoDeer and Genki.
This is just the start, we'll get there soon. 😁

It's the year 2022 now and it's time to look back on how my 2021 has been.
After I made these goals, I remember putting in the effort and gradually failing...
At the end of 2021 I have:
Read only 1 book
I did not write any short story, at all
I updated the blog but not once every week
I did not read the bible
It was saddening that I have the faintest motivation and huge distraction to accomplish this basic and underset goals. On a positive note, I have now a whole year and another chance to meet these goals!
Goals
It's been rough trying to convince myself to read, to write and to pick back up my Nihongo study. The stuff happening around me has been too overwhelming for me to really start again with things I know I love doing. For most people, the pandemic brought an opportunity to catch up on their hobbies and other interests. I, on the other hand, felt the world stopped and got stuck in time.
But reasons are just reasons, another day will come as if nothing happened. Life goes on.
So, with this sliver of motivation I have at this minute, I'm jotting down my goals and hope to finish at least half of it by the end of the year!
Read at least 4 books by the end of the year
Write at least 1 short story per month
Update this blog at least once every week
Update Bible Reflections at least thrice a week

I had this korean cheesy garlic bread and I didn't liked it 😭
It's expensive. The cheese is bland and the garlic butter tasted bitter like it's overcooked.
