Lyric Analysis “Moral of the Story” by Ashe
Lyric Analysis: Moral of the Story
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YWg2S45xMg
So I never really knew you     God I really tried to Blindsided, addicted
Felt we could really do this But really I was foolish Hindsight it's Obvious
Talking with my lawyer she said
"Where'd you find this guy?" I said, "Young people fall in love"
"With the wrong people sometimes"
Some mistakes get made That's alright, that's okay You can think that you're in love When you're really just in pain Some mistakes get made That's alright, that's okay In the end it's better for me That's the moral of the story babe
It's funny how a memory Turns into a bad dream When running wild turns volatile Remember how we painted our house? Just like my grandparents did, so romantic But we fought the whole time
(Chorus)
-      This song was written after Ashe signed the divorce papers from her husband, she says in the genius video that the making of this song was inevitable. In the first verse of the song Ashe reflects on her relationship with her ex-husband. “So, I never really knew you” God I really tried to Blindside, addicted “this line signifies the turmoil in a relationship. She says that she wanted to convey the process that people in toxic relationships go through when they fight and then there’s this honeymoon phase in which they’re “addicted” to the cycle of love and pain. She talks about how young she was when she first met her husband, how different she is now.
-      In the chorus of the song “some mistakes are made…”. She says that “being alone is a very isolating experience” and that its incredibly difficult to face. Yet she continues by saying that through the stages of grief she is able to reach acceptance and finally move on.
-      In the verse “It's funny how a memory Turns into a bad dream….” Ashe explains a beautiful experienced she wished she could have had, with her now ex-husband, that instead was miserable. She gets emotional in the video in this line due to how beautiful it could have been, yet it was a nightmare instead. These moments in toxic relationships emphasize how wrong people are for one another. Through this song we see how it’s important to understand when the love we wanted doesn’t work anymore and its time to close that chapter of our lives.

Ashlyn Rae Willson, known by the public as Ashe, is and American singer and songwriter. She is most known for her hit 2019 single “Moral of the story” which was played in the Netflix movie To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You produced by Billie Eilish’s brother and producer Finneas. Ashe’s upbringing took place in San Jose where she was raised in a Christian household. She took piano and vocal lessons from an early age and listened solely to Christian radio. Her Grandfather introduced her to music from Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Jefferson Airplane  inspiring her own work in the future. In an interview with Teen Vogue she expressed that her childhood was far from perfect, and that substance abuse took place in her family. She left San Jose to pursue a degree at Berklee College of music, where she graduated with a major in Contemporary Writing an Production in 2015.
Ashe’s music carreer began in Nashville before she was scouted by Ben Phipps a deep house producer who asked her to sing his track “Sleep Alone”.  Her 2016 song “Cant Hide” was her fith #2 single on both the US and Global Spotify Viral 50 charts. Her 2017 single "Let You Get Away" with Canadian DJ Shaun Frank was nominated for Dance Recording of the Year at the 2017 Juno Awards and was certified gold in Canada in 2019. Ashe embarked on tours with Louis the Child, Lauv, and Whethan. After signing to Mom + Pop independent label, she released her debut single "Used to It" in June 2017 and "Girl Who Cried Wolf" in November 2017. "Used to It" was her second single to reach #1 on the Global Spotify Viral 50 chart. Ashe was placed alongside Billie Eilish and Lewis Capaldi on Vevo's list of Artists to Watch In 2018. Throughout April 2017, Ashe supported The Chainsmokers during their Memories Do Not Open Tour and performed onstage with Big Gigantic during Coachella Festival 2017.
By the time Ashe had released her debut EP The Rabbit Hole in June 2018, she had clocked over 200 million accumulative streams and nine #1 songs on Hype Machine. The EP was described as "a versatile and compelling seven-track affair." Ashe supported Quinn XCII on his From Michigan with Love World Tour, during which she also released her single "Moral of the Story".
On April 5, 2019, Ashe released the four-track EP, Moral of the Story: Chapter 1, which was entirely produced by Finneas O'Connell. Finneas also produced three of the four tracks on her sequel EP, Moral of the Story: Chapter 2.
In February 2020, the single "Moral of the Story" was used in the Netflix teen romcom To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You (2020) which caused the song to reach #2 on both the Global and US Spotify Viral 50 chart, and reach over 12 million streams on the platform. Ashe made her debut chart appearance on both the Billboard Hot 100 with "Moral of the Story" and the Billboard 200 with Moral of the Story: Chapter 1. As of March 2020, the single has been used in over 283 thousand videos on the online platform TikTok.
Quotes from the Artist:
When asked about her debut EP The Rabbit Hole-
“They’re all incredibly from my soul and my heart,”
“I always said that when people hear this album, I hope that they feel like they have someone else on their side or someone else that gets them or can understand…I hope they can find a friend in me.”
When asked about Fame-
“There’s still a part of me that thinks, ‘I don’t really want to be famous.’ I want to be successful and I want people to love the music but I really just want them to love the music, you know? Some of my biggest inspirations are Carole King, and this actress, Diane Keaton, and they are these incredibly humble women of character. They love what they do and deflect some of the love pointed towards them. I take that as them saying, ‘I’m simply a vessel for my art.’”
When asked about vulnerability as an artist:
“it’s super vulnerable. I feel like there definitely is a sort of bravery in being an artist. I think it’s important for us to be brave because not everyone is and that vulnerability is so needed in this world.”

Bruno Major “Easily” Lyric deep dive
Tumblr media
(Chorus)
Don't you tell me that it wasn't meant to be Call it quits Call it destiny Just because it won't come easily Doesn't mean we shouldn't try
(Verse 1)
We had a good thing going lately Might not have always been a fairy tale But you know and I know That they ain't real
(Verse 2) I'll take the truth over the story
You might have tried my patience lately But I'm not about to let us fail I'll be the wind picking up your sail But won't you do something for me?
(Chorus)
(Verse 3)
Coming and going Inside out Back to front Oh, tangled and messy That's how we've been and we'll always be And that's alright with me
n The chorus of the song hits on this notion that relationships should be easy. Major writes that he doesn’t want to hear that his relationship is over or that it was meant to end “call it quits, call it destiny”. He says that just because this relationship isn’t as easy as they both wanted it doesn’t mean they should give up.
n In the first verse he says that the relationship has been going well at the moment. That while it isn’t a fairy tale and everything is going the most perfect way, his lover should know that these fairytales aren’t real. In addition to the fact that he would take the love he has in the relationship and the truth and the struggle over a perfect story without substance.
n In the second verse he confesses that yes the relationship has been hard. Admitting that “you might have tried my patience lately” yet even so he refuses to give up on this love he has. He sings “I’ll be the wind picking up your sail” expressing how he will support his love even in this time when things aren’t easy. This prompts him to ask her the chorus of the song which emphasizes how he doesn’t want the other person in his relationship to give up on them.
n In the third verse he writes about how it will always be in their relationship. About this “tangles and messy” love that consists of leaving and coming back. He acknowledges that while the way in which they keep coming back to each other may be “messy that’s okay with him.

Best Quotes from the Artist:
Interviewer: Is striving for perfection something you still struggle with when working on music? BRUNO: It can be debilitating. Someone wise once told me, make the music first and analyze it afterwards. It's so important to follow inspiration and allow the music to flow. Otherwise you can end up spending 5 hours on a hi-hat sound and the reality is, nobody cares about your hi-hat sound that much. I constantly remind myself to paint with broad strokes.
(coupdemainmagazine.com/)
“My ultimate goal when performing is to not think, to allow my music to flow through me unhindered by self-awareness or insecurity.”

Lyric Analysis and more Info Flatbush Zombies:
G Tearz
It's 12:47, I'm stoned, I condone
Almost remembered, been here before Erick Arc on the beat just to let you niggas know Ain't nothing to a G, pussy come, pussy go Take a hit I know you with it, take a sniff I bet you with it More money, more probs, more grams and more hoes From my mind, creep with me Third eye frequency like Jesus be I'm tryna free the slaves, young minds, bad brains No shame, no history, no name I want mine, no rights I'm not blind Five letters; "Fuck U," a vendetta If she don't suck dick, useless not with her I'm saying we the hope, I'm saying we the dopest Every new trend these artists jump like ropes I tie around your neck nigga, choke nigga choke

Better off dead, just thought I would mention….
Analysis:
In the line “It's 12:47, I'm stoned, I condone” “Zombie Juice references the “47 shift” which is a number used by Pro Era members as well as other members in the Beast Coast family (which includes Flatbush Zombies) as a tribute to the late Capital STEEZ who held significance of some sort with the particular number. It’s only 12:47pm and Juice is already stoned, he also encourages similar behavior (of smoking early in the day) by his fans.” (Genius.com)
“More money, more probs” is the title of a famous song by The Notorious B.I.G
““From my mind, creep with me” Referencing Snoop Dogg’s part from the second verse of Deep Cover: “Creep with me, as I crawl through the hood Maniac, lunatic, call me Snoop Eastwood” He saying follow along as he proceeds to kick knowledge.”

Our artist of the week: Flatbush Zombies!
Our artist of the week: Flatbush Zombies!
Tumblr media
This week our artist of the week is the trio rap group Flatbush Zombies. The American Hip Hop group comes from Brooklyn New York where they were formed in 2010. The artist in the group are rappers Meechy Darko, Zombie Jice and Erick Arc Elliot. Elliot as well as a rapper being their record producer.
All hailing from Flatbush Brooklyn, NYC all three members have been friends since childhood. They bonded through their Jamaican Decent as well as the Japanese Anime series Dragon Ball Z. In an interview with DJ Booth sitting and talking with the three members” feels like having a conversation at a high school lunch reunion with the music nerds”. This feeling is derived from the years of musical knowledge and experience the members have.
Erick Arc Elliot began his career as a solo artist with some success which bloomed once he brought the group together in 2012. Bülow Lyric Analysis
Coming to the end of this week we hope you’ve checked out Bülow’s latest and best hits. Our top songs of the week were “Not a Love Song” and “Get Stupid”.
We decided to analyze some of her lyrics and do a deep dive into both songs we chose for the week.
“Not a love song”:
You're a nice guy And you're looking for a nice girl to fall for you, for a lifetime But that's not my vibe, I'm just tryna have fun You say love is blind, but that's just some bullshit right there 'Cause I'm looking in your eyes, and they're burning fire Sex on my mind, and that's what you want Here face to face, and we both know the truth You're calling my bluff, I can't lie like you do Wish I could tell you that I love you but I can't Wish I could call you in the morning but I can't (oh oh) Wish I could tell you that I miss you but I can't (yeah) This is not a love song I get excited when you kiss me like that (like that) When we're body to body like that (oh oh) Wish I could tell you that I want you more than that But this is not a love song....
Meaning: This song is about finding a man who wants commitment and a loving relationship yet knowing that they aren't the one for you, that you cant commit like they want you too. This is not to say that she doesn't like him or feel anything for him. However, its that she knows their relationship doesn't go as deep as he thinks it does. She also expresses this struggle about wanting to be the perfect girl for him yet knowing it simply isn't possible. A struggle many of us feel in what we know to be temporary relationships.
“Get Stüpid”:
I'm in a, a sea of people Wondering if the floor might cave in I can feel the subs shaking the apartment Friends of friends are calling friends who weren't inviited Half the room is brain-dead on some fuckin' island BYOB, bring your own booze DOY, bongs in the bathroom She shotgun kissin' the frat boy in the bathtub He bad news I wanna get stupid, I wanna get dumb Lose my inhibitions, dizzy from the drugs I wanna get stupid, I wanna get dumb Lose my inhibitions But I don't trust no one I don't trust no one Broke a window, taped it up and hid the evidence Think I'm gonna get evicted from my residence Dropped my phone into the toilet and it's evident I'm out of my element, I'm out of my elementBYOB, bring your own booze DOY, bongs in the bathroom She shotgun…
Meaning:
This song is about needing to let go, in an unsafe environment. She describes a party scene in the song where people are heavily intoxicated. However, even though Bülow wants to let go and have fun she feels unsafe in the space. She doesn’t trust those around her while she’s high or intoxicated. This is why she decides to refrain from taking drugs or drinking alcohol in order to protect herself. Another thing to point out about this song is her familiarity with this space and how she’s walked through this party thousands of times. This is a familiarity that those who go out and relive the same nights, again and again, feel and can relate to. Making it a song that so many people can relate to and connect with.
HIGHLY recommend checking out this amazing playlist on Spotify (made by @bulow herself!!). https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0Xc8Hh6qXX0DPa1CsUk0fb?si=d2nfl-cwTn6SpVuFNM7pbQ&_php=1

Our Artist of the Week: Bülow
A little about Bülow-
Megan Bülow known as Bülow is a Canadian alternative pop singer becoming more recognized within the music industry. Just 20 years old born December 25th, 1999 in Berlin Germany she grew up in the UK, Canada, the US, and the Netherlands. Bülow was discovered when she was 16 years old at a summer camp. Bülow is fluent in German and English, her mother being Canadian (cbc.com).  Ever since then she has worked with Canadian music producers and writers. She currently resides in the Netherlands, yet the reach of her music is worldwide.
Music-
Bülow’s music has been described as “low-key pop that can picot from wrought to wry in the lilt of a half-note.”. In November 2017 Bülow released her debut EP Damaged Vol.1, which featured three tracks with “Not a Love Song” being released as her first single. She writes that “Not a Love Song” inspiration was derived from the excitement of meeting someone for the first time" and eventually realizing that she "just wasn't ready for that commitment yet." Furthermore, she expressed that the rest of her music also came from inspiration having to do with “smart, poignant tracks about guys” (theinterns.net). Damaged Vol.2 was released on June 8th, 2018, Crystalline was released on April 5th, 2019 and The Contender October 4th, 2019.

In the year 2019 Bülow was nominated for many awards winning one of them. Her single “Not a Love Song” was nominated for Single of the Year a Juno Award that has been awarded since 1974 in Canada. She was also nominated for her work on Damaged for Pop Album of the Year. She was also nominated for the Fan Choice Award however, the Juno award Bülow did win was the Breakthrough Artist of the Year which she thanked her fans extensively for.
Best Tweets-
Through Bülow’s Instagram and Twitter, we see a different side of who she is apart from the work at hand. Our favorite quotes from the artists are as follows:
·     the no’s shape ur career more than the yes’s do. remember that u have the right to say no at any time... this is ur life u have to live with the decisions
·     people in the industry call artists who have an opinion difficult. any true artist will never say yes to everything so respect the art and move on !!

Abby is running our Facebook! She is obsessed with music and usually cannot be found without her airpods. She enjoys going to concerts and most recently saw Beast Coast in Los Angeles. It is hard to choose a favorite genre since her music taste is very eclectic. Some of her favorite artists include Glass Animals, J. Cole, and Kim Petras! A new artist she just discovered and is really enjoying is Fickle Friends.
Christa is running our Instagram! She lives for finding new artists and bands and sharing them with people. She doesn’t have a specific favorite genre, but her favorite artist styles are Masego, Mac Ayers, and Leon Bridges. Her newest favorite artists are Topaz Jones, Khruangbin, and Gus Dapperton. Her best concert experience was seeing Anderson .Paak, Thundercat and Earl Sweatshirt at Red Rocks Amphitheater (wow).
SehYeon is running our Twitter! One of the most satisfying achievements for her is to cue the perfect music and at the perfect time for the perfect accompaniment. She likes to listen to classic jazz and blues artists, like Norah Jones and Ella Fitzgerald while cooking. When driving on a sunny day, Maggie Rogers and Kacey Musgraves are always blasting in her car.
I am Cameron and I’ll be running the tumblr for mymintmusic. Throughout my life I’ve been writing music, playing instruments and going to concerts and music festivals. Coming from NYC I’ve been to Governer’s Ball several times, my favorite time being when I saw Post Malone. Some of my favorite artists right now are Jorja Smith, Daniel Caesar and Bazzi.
