im writing a fic about nightwing #93 in the same series as persephone and can i just say. its fucking killing me. most of the motivation behind writing it was specifically because of its popular use in fandom — specifically, someone outs dicks assault against his will, and then a peanut gallery of witnesses pursue bloody justice on his behalf. it sucks. it’s very very hard to portray this kind of trauma when there is no objective justice to be had. any objective justice dick grayson could ever feasibly want for himself.catalina flores died in bludhaven, as did 100k others. dick can never forgive himself for it. he can never stop performing. he can never leave the spotlight

idk if this makes any sense but. i think robin stopped being batmans partner in the literal sense the moment bruce decided he had the authority to fire dick grayson from the role. and obvsly every successive robin has had a different relationship to the role and to bruce but i think that was a turning point. ‘batman needs a robin’ but what that means has changed. tim i think came the closest to restoring that equilibrium but then he loses bruce and robin anyway. idk it just makes me feel like. dick grayson was born into a literal aerial partnership w his parents, where every person was equally important, and equally crucial to the success of the act. i think that responsibility is something bruce can never truly delegate

the way dick treats himself is something that i wish i saw people talk about more tbh... his body is a well oiled tool that he keeps in tip top shape to serve his ends the way he needs them served, but it's still just a tool to him. and the way that he expresses suicidal ideation is very passive- throwing himself into situations where others will do the harm for him (ex. him in all of Outsiders 2003 and the way he intentionally provokes people, the way he throws himself further into superheroing in times of distress) he is a performer and always performing for others

in unfortunate news azrael + nightwing has bewitched me. its like the absolute worst combination of seemingly normal guy who’s deeply offputting + dude who seems like a freak but is actually disarmingly bland. of course the only thing comparable to dick grayson’s martyr complex is literal catholic guilt. i want them to kiss
