This is probably my favorite moment from the story so far. These two finally opening up was something I’d been leading up to for 31 chapters.

This post summarizes a lot better than I ever intectualized why I always write Bruno as so tactile in his affection for his familia.

Another round of little details!

I’ve said it before, but the Brunito moment is one of my absolute favorites of the movie. However, besides the kiss, there’s something else in this scene that always catches me:

The way Bruno reacts to his mother taking his hand.

He’s totally in shock, he lets her kiss him without moving or complaining, but when Alma touches his hand, he reacts right away and takes her hand too. Even if it’s a reflex response, he doesn’t wait passively to be grabbed or leave his hand lifelessly in hers; he actively responds. And Alma doesn’t even need to grip his hand first, because Bruno reacts at the mere touch, and turns his hand to meet hers and grip it too. He grips her hand tightly, and they squeeze each other’s hand, while Bruno glances at them and gulps.

It’s something very little, but I love it so much, not just because it’s a loving gesture from Alma towards his son, but also an eager answer from Bruno towards his mother, revealing how much she means for him. After this, she takes him to the horse, still gripping his hand, and then offers him her hand again to help him get on the horse. Mirabel is the one guiding the animal to go back home, but the one taking Bruno along is Alma.

After all, Alma is the one bringing him home.

BONUS: a shot of Bruno’s stunned face looking at his mother in the eye for the first time in ten years and discovering she rather hug him than punch him.

Currently in that phase of editing chapters where I hate everything I put down.

Reading my own fanfiction is basically just a rollercoaster of emotional whiplash.

20% of the time: “Hold on. I wrote this? This is fire. This is emotionally devastating in the best way. This scene is dripping with tension. I’m a literary perfectionist. Someone give me a book deal.”

80% of the time: “Straight to jail. Immediate prison. Why is everyone’s breath hitching?. I used the word ‘gaze’ three times in one paragraph like I was possessed. Did I think 'his eyes darkened' was profound? Why is everyone clenching their jaws? Why is someone whispering 'their name like a prayer' again?? No one talks like this. What is this dialogue. Why are there so many weird metaphors and em-dashes…”

dear lord, please take all life problems and responsibilities away from fanfic writers but also make them financially stable and happy with nothing to worry about so they can happily focus on writing and posting fanfiction. amen

a feel like the new generation of fanfic readers NEED to understand that clicking on a fic (interaction) does nothing. ao3 has no algorithm. your private discord discussions of fic do not reach the authors. if you do not actively engage with writers they will stop posting. this isn’t social media this is community.

Since the ai accusations are still being thrown around, here's how i personally like to use these GASP ai telltales. 🦄✨

Em Dashes (—)

To emphasize a shift / action / thought.

They're accusing us—actually accusing us—of using AI.

To add drama.

They dismissed our skills as AI—didn't even think twice, the dimwits—and believed they were onto something.

To insert a sudden thought. Surely they wouldn't do that to us—would they?

To interrupt someone's speech. "Hey, please don't say that. I honed my craft through years of blood and tears—" "Shut up, prompter."

To interrupt someone's thoughts / insert a sudden event.

We're going to get those kudos. We're going to get those reblogs—

A chronically online Steve commented, “it sounds like ai, idk.”

Semi Colons ( ; )

To join two closely related independent sentences / connect ideas.

Not only ChatGPT is capable of correct punctuation; who do you think it learned from in the first place?
