yall wonder why fanfic writers keep leaving this website, and this is the exact reason why; likes do nothing for visibility or interaction, they don’t tell writers you enjoyed what they’ve written, let alone which specific bits or anything like that, all they say is “i have seen this post and I know it exists” - nothing else. replies are great if you want to comment on fics, theyre great! but they also fail to provide visibility to fics to a wider audience; a reply and a like are fine, but when you reblog something, you’re giving us exposure and you’re telling us that that fic we wrote was actually worth the single second it takes to reblog it - bc full offense, but we do see it when you spam like our fics and don’t reblog a single one, but then go off to reblog other people’s, and yeah, it feels like shit! it makes us feel bad, it causes us to doubt what we’re doing when we see shit like that. like, personally, when people spam like my fics and don’t reblog (especially when they’ve reblogged other ones by other writers), it makes me wonder if the fic was even worth writing and whether or not I should just fucking delete it, tbh. the likes to reblogs ratio (as pictured above, all pics are mine; the first picture is of a fic with 219 notes, only 15 reblogs compared to 204 likes. the second is of a fic with 160 notes, only 12 of which are reblogs, and then 148 likes. the third is of a fic with 145 notes, 7 reblogs vs 138 likes. the next is a fic with 94 notes, 9 reblogs and 85 likes. the next is a fic with 74 notes, 4 reblogs as compared to 70 likes. the final is a fic with 36 notes, only 1 reblog and 35 likes) is fucked up, to put it simply; tumblr isn’t instagram, tiktok, twitter, etc, likes do not do anything except tell someone you saw their post. if you so badly want to support creatives on tumblr, whether they’re fic writers like me or they’re gif makers or they’re artists or whatever, then do us all a favour and reblog!! press the fucking reblog button for fuck’s sake, it’s not hard.
consider also:
messaging or sending asks to your favourite writer/artist/etc! (this can be anonymously on most blogs, too)
putting a nice comment in the tags or on the post!
like/reblog/reply one after another - like it, reblog it, then reply to it!
making fic/art/etc rec posts!
