Isn't it weird that we are taught to write a telegram in our school but not how to deal with mental health or help a friend if they are depressed? Feelings of internal chaos aren't new. All forms of art, be it literature, comedy, cinema or poetry arise from internal conflicts that are universal and tell you that others have felt that way, that you are not alone and will find a tribe or the strength, if you seek it. Then why is it that our "adults", who are supposed to know what is good for us are so ignorant towards the internal turbulences felt by the younger generation. Did they never experience this themselves? Few words of love and empathy can make a world of difference. If a child growing up feels safe and loved to express their anxieties to a trusting adult, they would grow up to be healthy adults themselves. Sadly we sometimes train the kids to supress these until they explode one day. It is not much that one has to do for others, than to listen and be patient with them. Yet there is so much pretence on the social media circus, as if someone is adding points for being a good virtual avatar. Helping even one person around you is much more impactful than projecting a false image of ‘being there for you’ on social media for 1000s of people. While one may not know what to say or do when someone opens up, listening with an open and genuine mind is enough. I often don’t know what to say. Most of the times a person needs to speak, not to get a solution or advice but to listen to themselves talk and get it out, maybe easing momentarily the storm of troubling thoughts they are battling internally. the in-between. . . . . while most days it is comics and fun shizz, a lot of times it is just intuitive scribbling and rough strokes in between the main work. As a beginner, comics and stories take a long time but often I cannot complete something until I make and finish what I am feeling in that very moment. Currently it is just drowning exhaustion - reading and thinking about events happening in India and world in general.
