Okay hi @whiparoundandcry usually I'd put this in the comments of a fanfiction but a03 told me that this was too many words so I am forced to @ you on Tumblr…You don't necessarily have to respond to this I just feel the need to let authors see my emotions through their work sometimes anyway this is for chapter 7 of Earbuds I don't know if you're still getting stuff about Earbuds since it's been like 7 years…

Okay I normally do this with very few of the fanfics I read in order to calm down and actually process what I'm reading, because otherwise I will hurt myself accidentally while getting too excited over a fanfic. And normally I'll do it for all of the chapters in a fanfic. (if it's a chaptered fanfic) but like this chapter is so long. (an hour and 10 minutes long according to speechify-) And I am only 10 minutes in and I am convulsing so like-

I Make lists in order to process what's going on. So I'm going to do that now.

Ah so kai mentioning in like chapter 3 or 4 that he could make the jump from his vantage point to the King's Tower was foreshadowing…I should have known

I May hate Wu in this fanfic, (And probably just in general) but I do love the added details that one he and Kai trained one-on-one before the team actually was a team and two that Kai actually asked the very plausible question of if he could fly with his fire

All That's going through my mind when I read the scene of Kai Harumi and Lloyd staring at each other is “when he looks at me and I look at him and he looks at me”

This all started when I was thinking about The opening scene in Tick Tock (season 1 episode 7, Don't ask why I know it by heart It's my favorite episode I'm 17 and I still get hype when watching it) where Zane was testing his capabilities to hold his breath underwater to an unhuman degree (cuz robot)

But like what if before That scene (It is implied that they do test things like this in said scene So I am running with it) Kai points out how inhuman it is that Zane can hold his breath for so long. And Zane understandably, subconscious about it which fires off a whole series of the Ninja explaining how they're inhuman in this sense.

Cool claims that there's nothing really inhuman about him to which Kai interjects that he can effortlessly pick up the refrigerator in one arm and the couch and the other as he had done so the week before to which Cole tries to defend himself by saying Zane needed help cleaning under the surfaces cut two all three Ninja giving Cole a deadpan look.

Jay talks about how he can be electrocuted roughly a thousand times during his little tinker sections and not feel a thing until someone (mainly Nya) points out that he's actively being electrocuted. Of which Kai makes fun of him for. Jay gets embarrassed and asks Kai what his inhuman trait is.

And suddenly Kai is really embarrassed And he makes the others swear that they won't judge him or make fun of him for it with an odd kind of severity rarely seen from Kai they all give their their is agreements and they stand there in an awkward silence for all of 15 seconds before Kai clears his throat and lets out the most inhuman growl. Like something that isn't even physically possible from a human's throat of which Zane points out and Kai just kind of shrugs looking really subconscious about it explaining that he's always been able to do it and Nya can do something similar but oddly only underwater.

Anyway I just wanted to rant about a headcanon I came up with which is literally just “What if Kai and Nya can growl/roar like dragons (fire dragon and water dragon/serpent respectively)”

I don't know what's going on with Kai fans right now (I still have yet to get past part 1 of rising dragons) But I am loving the angst

Bonus points if I find out later that it's older sibling angst

Is there anyone else that's interested in talking about the characterization of Kai from Ninjago like I am?

I've made two posts about his way of grieving which isn't a lot But that's because I can't put my words on paper or it doesn't comprehend to me which is why I rather talk about it with somebody but I have no one to talk about it with because no one likes Ninjago like I like Ninjago IRL Me and my siblings got into the fandom when I was 10 but unfortunately they didn't get into it like I did because I hyper fixated on that shit for 7 years straight

One of the main things I loved about seabound before they brutally destroyed it by bringing Nya back (I'm a hypocrite if they didn't do it themselves I, and many others would have written a fix-it-fic And I feel like more people should admit that) is how different Kai is while grieving his sister compared to how he was in season 2 (? 3?) when Zane died.

Because there is a fundamental difference, when Zane dies Kai seems to go for more of a destructive route than anything else. As when Lloyd is trying to get the gang back together to check out Chen's Island He finds Kai in a fighting ring, with the whole implied drinking thing (It's a one-off little thing probably an animation to give visual interest but if you think I'm not going to drag it out as much as possible to make it as angsty as possible you fucking delusional)

However when we come around to seabound Kai's reaction to his grief is less destructive in fact it's not really focused on up until the newer series rising dragons comes out when he's bonding with Wyldfyre.

He mentions while teaching her breathing techniques to calm down that this is what Master Wu taught him after his sister died.

(I can't remember the exact wording and I'm too lazy to actually go look for it Plus I think it's kind of played off as a joke but I'm going to run with it)

I also love that this implies he was intending to go back to those destructive ways that he seems to indulge in. But wu (And I hate to give this man credit because I am his number one hater) stopped him right there in his tracks and helped him with healthy coping mechanisms.
