#AurSuno is a slice of my life. It is everything rolled in one: a diary of secrets, a thanksgiving note, a mission statement, a litany, a soliloquy and a shoulder to cry on. All the poems featured in #AurSuno are pieces of my life as I experienced it in the last decade or so. These are poems on the many moods of falling in love, the fear of falling out of love and eventually falling out of love; there’s also pieces on feminism, gender and identity," says Singh.

Nirmika and poetry

Nirmika’s Hindi poetry project is titled #AurSuno, under which she writes and performs her verses in a gripping show format that combines spoken word and music.

 She is known for her effortless yet sharp writing style that marries the colloquial with the poetic.

 As a millennial writer, Nirmika is articulating the thoughts of young India, one word at a time in Hindi, English and Hinglish.

Music collaborations

As a lyricist, Singh collaborated with award-winning composer Clinton Cerejo and Bollywood playback sensation Arijit Singh in 2016 for a viral song, “Drive Mein Junoon,” which raked in over 11 million views. 

 A frequent collaborator with Clinton Cerejo, her other notable songs include “Anjaana” and “Calling Your Name” from the former’s new project Shor Police

Apart from being a journalist, Nirmika is also an accomplished singer-songwriter, lyricist and stage performer. Her repertoire of music includes pop, folk and alternative rock.

 She has an EP titled Jhoothe as well as several collaborations to her credit. Currently she is also the face of the Amazon Coolpad TV and digital campaign. 

She also represented India at the Midsommar Weekender gathering in Sweden hosted by Absolut for global influencers.

As the editorial head of the company, Singh is credited with rebranding the Indian edition to reflect a more youthful, contemporary and pop culture-centric approach in both its print and digital avatars. 

Under her leadership, Rolling Stone India has boasted exponential growth on social media and has become the only print magazine to have exclusive official partnerships with Twitter India and Facebook India.

Background

Nirmika Singh (born June 7, 1987) is a singer-songwriter, lyricist and music critic based in Mumbai.

 She has to her name a solo album, two singles and multiple collaborations. 

Nirmika currently holds the position of Executive Editor, Rolling Stone India, the Indian edition of the International music magazine Nirmika is one of the voices in music journalism in India and is also the youngest person to have a leadership role at Rolling Stone.

After a stint with The Indian Express as a trainee journalist, Singh moved to Mumbai in 2011 to join Hindustan Times as a music writer.
