👏👏👏👏👏THISSSSS!!!
Stop expecting doctors to be robots
You know something that really annoys me? I’ve seen it a fair bit, when non-medical friends, or just people I know/online say things like:
‘My doctor actually googled something when I was in the room with her, how unprofessional!!’
‘My doctor was about to prescribe me something, but before he did he said he had to check in his book for what to give?? Seems pretty incompetent.’
Like, what other careers do we hold to this ridiculous standard of having to remember absolutely everything off the top of their head? Especially in a field where there is A) a ridiculous amount to remember and B) things evolve quickly and change every single damn year.
Would you think a scientist is not up to scratch if they have to consult some diagrams/reference charts while conducting an experiment? Would you sack your lawyer if they wanted to read up on a specific law for the case? Is a barista useless for checking the recipe for a less-ordered drink? Doctors aren’t robots, and I wish people would realise it is pretty much impossible to remember every single guideline, obscure symptom, and drug dose for every condition. Especially the drugs - we’re literally allowed our BNFs (drug books) in our exams because hun, nobody got time for memorising all that.
Seriously, doctors have the knowledge to piece things together and ask the right questions, that doesn’t mean they have to remember everything - many things are fine to look up. As long as the doctor knows they exist it doesn’t mean they’re incompetent! Surely double-checking can only be a good thing.
(Disclaimer - I know that people probably don’t mean any harm by saying it, and won’t realise how much of a high expectation it is. So I’m not hating. But I just find it annoying lol)

I believe this is a universal struggle .. starting my internship year in 1 day with zero motivation 😭
P.S note sure how im going to manage diabtetes type 1 with the night shifts / duties and 36 hours of continuous work 😩
Residency
Back from 2 months of vacation (including a 3-week trip to China), due to start residency in 2 days. I feel like I should be excited, but I’m not. It probably doesn’t help that my next year will basically be a glorified 5th year of med school, since I’m only doing off-service rotations in services that I have no interest in.
It also does not help that I’m starting off this year with 2 whole months of general surgery/transplant service. Then a month of ICU.
I don’t feel ready. Professionally, mentally, emotionally. I’d much rather stay on vacations for the rest of the summer  of my life. I haven’t even started and I’m already looking forward to my next days off (which, let’s be honest, there aren’t that many of). My motivation is at an all-time-low. I’ll be dragging my feet to the hospital on Monday.
On another note, I should probably change my Tumblr URL.

It’s #DiabetesAwarenessMonth and I’m making short comics to discuss my experiences and share some general knowledge! Today’s edition: how I rationalized my #T1D symptoms by pretending I was turning into a vampire. Know the signs and pay attention to your body!

SPOILER ALERT!!!
“All the bright places” … so I have finished this book at 2:30 am, it left me feeling hollow and angry. THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM MENTAL ILLNESS! It is for relatives, lovers, friends of suicide victims not for the potential victims them selves.
The book gave me a spark of hope - someone who battles depression and anxiety on and off- I had some hope to actually love life for a change.. but a scuidal like myself was cheated on my the advertisement of this book, by labeling it as a good insight for mental illness.. indeed it does give a very realistic view on how mental illness controls mind, thoughts and behaviour regardless of what you actually aspire for. But it was not enough the hopeless endig blew it.
This book snatched the very hope it actually gave.. It took it by force and by surprise ..
My only conclusion was that no matter how hard I try I am hopeless and my fate is already determind long time ago. That I can never escape this impending tragic death, because lets face it I am suicidal and thats what I actually want …
As much as I love the narration and the portrait of mental battels, how I related to them to this darkness Theodore Finch was fighting, I am angry at his suicide ! Like what does this leave me with ? What hope what help does this give me? NONE..
I have a heartache and I am at disbelieve about how cruel and hopeless my life will be , and how I will never be happy or content with life …
THIS NOVEL IS MASTERPIECE FOR A HEALTHY READER, BUT IT CAN BE A TRIGGER FOR SOMEONE SUFFERING FROM MENTAL ILLNESS, LIKE IT WAS FOR ME..

I work hard to show the people who underestimate girls' power how much I can achieve and excell in what I love. To show them that I am more than some other man's wife/girlfriend/sister/daughter.... etc To show them that I am defined by my self and my actions alone.. To show them what a humanitarian, meticulous Doctor I can become..
Studyblrs, let's start something together
A reason why i work hard: to show to those who scoffed and laughed at my big dreams that even the weakest cubs can become strong and feared lions. Now reblog with a reason why you work hard and pass this motivation along.

Try to imagine a life without timekeeping. You probably can’t. You know the month, the year, the day of the week. There is a clock on your wall or the dashboard of your car. You have a schedule, a calendar, a time for dinner or a movie. Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored. Birds are not late. A dog does not check its watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. Man alone measures time. Man alone chimes the hour. And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures. A fear of time running out.

personally I think one of the worst things about having diabetes is that other people just don’t get it
they either don’t understand it and don’t care to understand it. “oh you’re giving yourself a needle okay gross I’ll just turn away.” or they think it’s just some weird sugar disease and they’re ignorant and rude about it. “oh haha all this sugar is gunna give me diabetus!” or maybe they get it but it scares them so they try to control it. “oh my goodness do you need insulin? a granola bar? oh don’t eat that sugar. what’s your blood sugar level at?” or they think they get it but they simplify it and go from there. “yeah it’s just monitoring your bgl and taking insulin. that’s it! all diabetics can live a happy healthy life.”
it’s just so tiring to have to deal with non-diabetics. and it sucks that it’s apparently our responsibility to teach them what diabetes really is
