The Last Kingdom / Ep. 1x02 / Final Scene The editing here makes Alfred and Uhtred appear to be watching and reacting to each other even though Alfred’s on Asec’s Hill and Uhtred’s back in Winchester. Note that when Uhtred turns his gaze away, Alfred smiles (the first time he looks genuinely pleased all episode) and even seems to look back at Uhtred (or where the camera wants us to imagine Uhtred is) as he mounts his horse. Then, in the final moment of the episode, Uhtred seems to look back in Alfred’s direction.
