Having a place in your home where you can completely switch off is important to escape the craziness of everyday life.  Having lived in many house shares during my time in London I have been used to cramming my whole life into my bedroom which always felt stressful and cluttered.  I am extremely grateful now to be able to put my belongings in multiple rooms in my new flat, keeping the bedroom as a clutter free zone.
In our new bedroom I really wanted to create a space that was elegant and simple and that was also suitable for my boyfriends taste (which meant ditching the pink flowery cushions). I focused on using neutral colours and took most of my inspiration from the Scandinavian interior style.   We are very fortunate to have these gorgeous, traditional shutters that are the main focal point of the room, so I did not want to use anything too busy that would take away from their beauty. Our bed is Ercol so this ties in nicely as it is a very similar wood finish and colour to the shutters.
We painted the wardrobes in Farrow & Ball Ammonite and also the bedside table which we picked up at Hackney flea market. I made a simple rug out of Manuel Canovas fabric and made some cushions from Colefax & Fowler and Larsen fabric. The bedding is Zara home and The White Company which I finished off with a couple of textured throws.  By using subtle differences with textures, patterns and similar colour shades it gives depth and warmth to a simple, fresh colour palette.
It is now a really lovely place to relax both day and night and we are really pleased with the result!

STORAGE, BRASS & MOROCCO
You find when walking around the residential streets of London that many architects and builders utilise every nook and cranny when planning properties as every square inch can make the difference when selling a property.  Personally, I think this is a great thing about London as every street corner you turn you never know what to expect, so many gorgeous old properties now have the addition of a modern space or an extension added on in some quirky way and no two properties ever look the same.
So when it comes to the interior element of these houses you can often find yourself in situations where you are trying to find solutions to maximise every inch of the space inside.  We definitely found this in our bathroom!  No one wants to have all their cleaning products, towels etc on show, so we wondered what we could do to hide all of these things.  With a little bit of DIY we decided to cut into the stairs to make doors and use hinges so that the top of the stairs would lift up.  This has solved the problem and makes a pretty great style feature.  (You could also do this in the hallway!) We added a cupboard under the sink too but mainly because we needed to find another excuse to buy some more Buster + Punch door knobs, being a lover of all things black and gold, I can’t get enough of their products, they are beautifully crafted.
I also wanted to share with you these Moroccan tiles from the ‘Moroccan encaustic tile company’ which are made in Marrakech by local artisans, they are really stunning and are a lovely addition to a simple interior space. You should definitely check these companies out!

I really loved making these cushions in my favourite Larsen fabric ‘Neptune’.  There is no need for piping or any fuss as the colour, pattern and texture of this fabric says it all, the simpler the better!
