Idk my brain read it with the delivery Krane gives with the "good for chicken" line and it actually broke me so much

my collection of Marcus' design thoughts. when I was working out design features for my rewrite, I looked at the Atlas by Boston Dynamics.

-hydraulics give to most of the strength, and require constant replacement of the fluid (ethylene glycol.) He has a fluid tank which takes up the majority of the chest cavity, and then the "heart" pushes around the fluid. Fluid is replaced one pump at a time.

-He is a near replica of a human, just built out of metal (aluminum, titanium, and some steel.) Means he's got a lot of movable joints. There are several hydraulic presses in each joint. Since there are several per joint, the joint can still move while one press is having the fluid replaced. Ergo, fluid is almost always being replaced.

--His heart runs on passive power. (Stuff that happens even if he is charging or otherwise not moving or consciously doing it.) His heart makes more of a whoosh sound than an actual beat. Like when a person has a murmur.

-He uses both cameras (eyes) and vibration based methods to "see." Like a dolphin or some other animal that is less awful

-His skin is made of a collagen and silicone mesh. Human like, folds the same, tears about the same. Worse at insulating. Good for Marcus, bad for people.

-I could not manage to math out how much he can actually lift, because that was all based on Adam, and I couldn't figure that out either. See Bree post for speed relatives.

-He weighs just under 400 pounds. (181 kg)

-He has six cooling fans, nearly constantly running. Drain a lotttt of power. He coughs to clear out the dust and other debris. Literally coughs up clouds. He laughs so hard he inhales dust and has to cough it back up.

--Also passive

-He is an AI system. Originally for just lab help, then given a body and bionics. He adapted more to Douglas' sarcasm and adopted his mannerisms, as AI tend to do. He's still learning. He doesn't have emotions so much as he knows cause-effect. This action makes humans feel this way, so he will also feel this way. It is the only thing he can not get around in his coding, and the only thing that Giselle could not code out. So if he can't get rid of them or ignore them, maybe they are feelings? Idk

-His AI takes a lot of power, and a lot to cool. Ethylene glycol is a very efficient coolant. Even with all his cooling stuff, he's still running at human-would-be-dead temps. (Chase can't tell because Marcus messes with Chase's external temperature sensors.)

-His battery would last about a week without charging, given that he goes through normal activities and uses his bionics like usual. Without using bionics, his battery could probably last two to four weeks. Bionics are very power heavy. Running on minimal things, as in turning off hydraulic replacement and just running a few fans and shutting down other non-essential systems, he could survive years without recharging. Douglas gives him a new battery every year, as it corrodes very quickly. He charges mostly wirelessly, but he does have several charging ports.

-Bionics are all copy-coded onto separate chips, which are in a little box. If he takes it out, he does not have the bionics (think flash drive with pictures). He does not have Daniel's bionics, but Daniel can copy all the bionics Marcus has, even with the separate chips.

-He is not self-healing in Douglas' era, but is in Giselle's.

-He can collapse in on himself like a little paper bag. His internal stuff folds up and his skeleton retracts on itself like cat's claws. Can't last more than a few seconds.

-His joints bend way further than a human's. Knees behind the ears, hips in a full circle, etc.

Its a camp for gifted kids, which is why I said a lot of our kids are on the spectrum. Not all, but quite a few.

I have yet to bring it up to our boss because it's week 2 of 12 and I'm hoping it was just a one time thing because she's tired or something. I do plan on talking to her about it after work though.

I had a shifty day at work so let's talk about dealing with children on the spectrum.

I work with kids (8-10) ten hours a day, five days a week. By the end of the week both staff and children are exhausted, and my lead is, in the nicest way possible, not in tune with the children's emotions. She'll tell the kids she'll take them somewhere and then change her mind later, resulting in a meltdown. Then act like it's the child's fault. When you give them an expectation like "at X time we will do Y" and then when it become X time tell them you changed your mind, yes the child is going to be upset. It's a fucking child, and most of the kids in our care are on the spectrum in some way or another because that's the god damn job description.

Yesterday, one of our higher support needs kiddos came to me crying and unable to put his thoughts into words but it was clear he was overestimated (It was late in the day and we were in a loud environment) so I take him to the office to calm down, on my way out I let my lead know and she's just rolling her eyes all like "not again"

Tf do you mean? Yes he's going to have meltdowns its the nature of his being and its not any more fun for him than it is for you!

So anyway, I take the kid to the office with my boss. We sit down and do some breathing exercises, get him a fidget and some headphones, etc. Once he's calmed down he very clearly and directly articulates what the issue is. A lot of little things happened that day that piled up and the room being too loud was the last straw for him, absolutely understandable I get that way too sometimes.

I'm heading back in with him, sending him off to go play and my lead is sitting right by the door, surrounded by other kids. She doesn't ask to step out and talk or anything she just goes like "what did he do this time?" And I nearly fucking lost it at her.

These kids around her, the child's peers, already have their own thoughts about him because kids are pretty good at telling when one is different. And then to say something like that around them, lowering their view of this child is insane! Literally rule one of our work is don't talk about the kids in front of the other kids. I just calmly explained it was too loud and we needed to go calm down for a bit, and told the other kids if they needed to calm down they could come hang out with me too. My lead then just rolls her eyes and is all like "it's not that loud in here.*

How can you, at your grown ass age, be acting more immature than your teen coworker. Like...? Maybe not to you but to a kid yeah??? I just don't understand how she has so little empathy for these kids. It's just the high support needs ones too, she's buddy buddy with our high function girls or our nuerotypical kiddos. It's blatant favoritism and then she'll go and complain about the kids not talking to her when they have an issue but she blows them off every time unless they're one of her favourites or acts like this and blames them for a reaction they can't control.

Anyway tldr if you don't want to deal with high support needs don't choose to work with kids on the spectrum.

Guys The Exit (Conan Gray) fits Bree and Chase so well. Like specifically that line that goes "feels like we have matching wounds, but mines still black and bruised and yours is perfectly fine."

Because they both experienced the same upbringing, right? Bur Bree was the first to realise Davenport wasn't a good person and Chase is still desperately clinging on to this idealized version of him that never existed because he's scared of letting go.

hi! I grew up with it too, I distinctly remember playing lab rats on the playground in like first grade and everybody wanted to be fucking Chase because he had the most abilities smh.

i've been so jaded by the lukewarm apolitical dystopia boom of the 2010s that it came as a legitimate shock to read the sentiment "just because it's illegal doesn't mean it's wrong" in a kids book from 1998.

anyway, if you have a kid in your life, you should have them read the shadow children series by margaret peterson haddix. for no particular reason.

Concept I've been cooking on for a while:

My OC, S-2, is a character foil for Bree. Like her, they wanted to be "normal", and paid the price for it (rendered mute by Krane). They're a character defined by loss of identity-- and obviously, they have superspeed and specialize in reconnaissance, so they'd need to wear a helmet/mask. So what if they wore one of these?

It's an HMD (helmet-mounted display), used to deliver oxygen & visuals/audio to jet pilots. It's similar to what Krane wore in Space Colony, and obviously the green eyes go well with the Triton App imagery. And also they go hard lol
