Kevin Day is such a tragic character because he devoted his life to a sport, was seen as a prodigy and gifted exy player but was betrayed by the person he saw as his family, his brother and then became a anxious wreck and an alcoholic, just to be told he could never play again because his brother shattered his dominant hand.

can you believe that. i’m not talking about the racquet hit or the eden’s drugging fiasco. i’m saying they never hurt the mind and the heart. and even–the hit to the stomach was when they literally had never met. and the drugging was not about Neil; it was all about Andrew. there was no relationship whatsoever even formed. there was no choking incident like with Kevin.

i’m saying there was never any of the romance tropes used to create angst. no love triangle. no cheating. no bet. no manipulation. no backstab. no running away. no miscommunication. no lies.

think about all the couples you’ve ever read or watched. the best and the worst. the mainstream and the niche. think about it.

they had all the knives. all the opportunities. but not a single time did they take advantage, in any way. no physical, emotional, psychological, or sexual violence & abuse, never ever.

do you know how comforting that is? how safe it makes me feel? because that means that through them, I was never hurt. they didn’t cause me any torment. they were not the reason I cried for 2 weeks straight every single day after I finished the series; the world they live in did.

and by the way. across 3 books, they did not find it in themselves to hurt one another. it was not necessary to keep things interesting. let me repeat that: it was unnecessary to the plot to add violence within their relationship.

and that is the skill Nora Sakavic possesses. that is the power she holds. that’s what makes her the best, the favorite, the beloved, the mastermind, the poet, the one true author.

just rambling

Everything about the hotel-Baltimore scene is pure perfection.

If I wouldn't have shipped andreil from the start, that would’ve been my moment. I can’t even explain how much that scene means to me - how much andreil means to me.

Neil instantly asking where Andrew is once he’s in the room.

Andrew crashing into it.

Andrew and Neil talking and talking and talking as if the room wasn’t full of other people.

Andrew checking Neils bruises. Neil checking Andrews bruises. Both fiercely protective.

No one being dared to touch them in this moment. Not the police, not Abby , no one.

It’s the most intense, intimate moment in the whole series imo. I think I never read a scene that felt as intimate as this one.

So much anger but never directed towards each other.

Neil made Andrew lose control. Neil, the only person who saw Andrew, who actually saw that Andrew was in control the whole time while everyone thought he was an uncontrollable monster. Neil said before he wants to see him lose control - he isn’t afraid of him, never was, never will. Andrews bottomless anger is never directed towards him and that’s what makes all the difference.

The foxes are not to be forgotten - the way Andrew invited them into the fight when he realized Neil could be taken away - how everyone was ready to start a riot instantly - they have each others back, always. The way they all patiently waited to get answers, respected Neils decision to speak in german first but still being on his side is everything. Neil didn’t have to convince them to be on his side again, didn’t have to offer answers first, they always were with him without a doubt. Answers can come later.

So yea, I love it.
