A lesson without pain is meaningless. That’s because no one can gain without sacrificing something. But by enduring that pain and overcoming it, he shall obtain a powerful, unmatched heart… A Fullmetal Heart.

With Kentaro Miura’s passing, it really got me thinking about how some people who claim to be DGM fans treat Hoshino. Now I’ve shared my thoughts on how I feel about those people but I’m going to try and express my feelings differently.
Miura was a once in a lifetime talent. People can try and recreate his art and stories but they’ll never be able to reach the hearts of people like he was able to. In 30+ year long publication, Berserk has gone on many hiatuses. A single arc took almost a decade to conclude. Even more so, the climax of the story was on its way, taking more than a couple years to be reached with limited chapters. Despite the wait, Berserk fans eagerly waited for every new chapter release. Memes were made about the hiatuses but everyone understood that they would wait as long as it took to see the end of the series.
It’s a mixed bag with the DGM fandom. I know a lot of us are patient and constantly supportive of Hoshino but in recent years, I’ve seen a lot of bitter and malicious posts and comments made about her. The most common complaint I’ve seen is that Hoshino spends more time buying stationary than working on DGM. Or there’s the complaint that she’s being lazy because even though the series releases on a quarterly basis now, some chapters are only 12 pages long.
People fail to understand how lucky we are as DGM fans to even get quarterly chapters. I had just gotten into the series when it was coming off it’s hiatus so I wouldn’t understand how older fans must have felt. I think a handful of the people that complain forget that Hoshino has carpal tunnel syndrome. My mom also has it and it’s truly a burden on the body. The fact that Hoshino is able to make consistent, beautiful art is amazing.
All I am asking is that we as a fandom be more patient and kinder to Hoshino. We never know when we’ll lose her.
