I’M SO GLAD YOU ASKED THIS! i actually have a list of jes/inej headcanons i love these kids… their friendship is so underrated :(

• when inej is sad, the first person she goes to is jesper. • he has this way of making her feel better— cracking wise jokes about killing whoever or whatever made her sad, but then softening, taking her small hand in his and rubbing his thumb over her knuckles.• you’ll get through this, he tells her, voice muffled by his face in her hair. she laughs weakly into his shoulder. you always do. we always do, don’t we?• jesper loves inej for lots of reasons, but one is that she calms him. she helps him just… relax, take things slow and easy for a bit. she eases his nerves like tea after a stressful day, her soft voice keeping him grounded with childhood stories of her old suli campsite.• out of all the dregs, after nina, jesper is the person inej is most comfortable with touching. she’s had bad experiences with men and touch, but it seems so irrelevant with him. sometimes it’s still there, and he knows her boundaries, but it’s usually lots of skinship with them.• jesper playing with inej’s fingers, inej poking jesper’s face to wake him up, arms around waists and shoulders, brushing lips against cheeks as greeting, the works. • they have tv nights often, just the two of them. they’ll order in at inej’s place, and spend the whole night watching crappy reality tv shows or docudramas or cartoons, it depends on the mood. • jesper’s favorite thing to do when it’s been awhile since he’s seen inej is, when he does see her, pick her up and spin her around as he hugs her• inej loves that too. she’d claim it’s because it reminds her of trapezing, or whatever, because of the swoop in her stomach as she’s lifted up, but that’s not true. she loves that there’s someone out there, someone she’s lucky enough to be friends with, that cares for her so much that when he’s missed her he literally twirls her about in joy• they balance each other out, make each other feel better. they even have matching parabatai jacket pins, courtesy of wylan, who got then into shadowhunters

summary: a snapshot into the average morning of two lovesick boys.

Sunlight is filtering through every window in their apartment, and for a second Wylan panics, wondering what time it is and what classes he missed until he realizes that it’s Saturday, and he has no class on Saturday.

The smell of something diabetically sweet is wafting into the bedroom from the kitchen, and a smile curls up Wylan’s lips. Jesper can only make a few things, and they’re all sweet to the point of creating cavities. Wylan won’t dare complain, though; Ghezen knows Wylan’s sweet tooth knows no bounds.

Wylan stretches all catlike as he gets out of bed, running a hand through his hair. It’s times like these where he wishes he was blessed with Jesper’s innate ability to wake up and be able to function like a human. It takes 10 years just for Wylan to really wake up. He makes his way to the kitchen and is greeted by the sight of Jesper making waffles, headphones plugged into his ears.

Wylan wouldn’t be able to help the fond smile that came upon his face even if you offered him 14 million kruge. He loves every aspect of Jesper, loves every aspect of their relationship, but it’s times like these, just watching him be himself, dance about the kitchen to music only he can hear with his eyes shut as he turns off the wafflemaker, that makes Wylan’s chest twist with an overwhelming amount of love. Love, and wonder, because never in a million years would Wylan have thought that he’d be here. Here, living on his own in an apartment with his boyfriend of two years, who he loves beyond words and who loves him the same. Some moments, sometimes, it feels too good to be true. Wylan thinks that now is probably one of those times.

Jesper hums along in time to the song playing as he drizzles syrup all over a stack of waffles. If there’s one thing he could appreciate about having such a deep sleeper for a boyfriend, it was that he got the opportunity to surprise him more often than not with things like breakfast in bed.

Unfortunately, his hopes of surprising Wylan are dashed when he sees the very boy himself leaning against the archway to their kitchen, watching Jesper with fond eyes. Jesper can’t find it in him to be upset that his plan was ruined, though. Not when Wylan’s standing there, sunlight turning his golden hair into a glowing halo, drowning in one of Jesper’s flannel shirts and looking as beautiful as he would’ve in a three piece suit. Not when Wylan’s still (still!) staring at Jesper with moonstruck eyes, looking for all the world like a lovesick teenager.

Which, okay, he is. Technically they both are– Jesper’s only just turned nineteen, and Wylan turned eighteen about two weeks prior.

“‘Ello,” Wylan greets, voice still a deep and raspy slur from sleep. His eyes are half lidded too, lashes casting long shadows against his cheeks. Jesper really does love how long it took his boyfriend to wake up.

“Hello, sleepyhead,” he replies, grinning. He sets down the bottle of syrup and walks over to him, pulling Wylan into his arms. Wylan eagerly returns the hug, seemingly melting into Jesper’s arm with a pleased hum.

Jesper runs a hand through Wylan’s soft curls, pressing a kiss to the top of his head. “I made breakfast,” he murmurs into a pillow of golden curls.

“I saw,” Wylan responded, voice muffled by Jesper’s bare chest. “'N I smelled it too. Smells good.”

“Thank you, love. Maybe we should eat it, yeah?” Jesper laughs, gently pulling away from Wylan, who whines in protest.

“Fine,” Wylan huffs. Then he bites lip, looking up at Jesper with a soft grin. “Thank you for making me breakfast, darling.”

Jesper feels his face heat at the nickname. “Anytime, sweetheart. Now can we please go eat? You’re gonna make me starve to death. And then I might have to eat you.”

Wylan laughs, intertwining his fingers with Jesper’s and leading him inside the kitchen. “Fine, you big baby. But, for the record, you’d be lucky to eat me. After all, you’re always claiming I’m sweet as candy.”

Jesper burst out laughing at that, and the two boys’ gentle laughter continued to fill the apartment long after they’d finished breakfast.

dregs boarding school au 📑

- st. aleksander’s & st. alina’s school for young men and women is a fancy ass boarding school near the university district of ketterdam. they’re sister schools, with st. aleksander’s being for the boys and st. alina’s for the girls.

- the classes are attended shared co-ed by the students however, since the school is split up into three main parts: st. aleksander’s (male dormitories with other recreational places), st. alina’s (female dormitories, with other recreational places), & the actual school, which is officially known as st. ilya’s

- kuwei & wylan are roommates, as are jesper & matthias. somehow, kaz scored himself a single dorm. no one knows how.

- ofc, inej & nina are roommates as well.

- they’re all juniors / 11th years, except for matthias, who is their Cool Senior Friend

- kuwei skipped a grade, which is why he’s the youngest out of all of them but still in year 11.

- wylan was offered the opportunity to be a senior, but finds them intimidating, despite matthias assuring him he’d fuck up anyone who tried to mess with him.

- everyone is attending on scholarship except for  nina, kuwei, & wylan

- the school doesn’t allow things like cellphones, and laptops are to be used exclusively for academic purposes and therefore have lots of blocked sites, so the dregs get up to a lot of their… own sort of fun.

- trouble for the teachers is, they can never get caught. never.

- example: kuwei and wylan get the science wing shut down due to an explosion? well, there’s no real proof, since smoke incidentally happened to smother every camera. on top of that, kuwei does not hesitate to point out that technically it’s the teacher’s fault an explosion happened, since they “lied” about whether or not the main chemical was diluted by straight up not telling.

- despite the teacher’s assurance that they definitely did, the cameras not only don’t record audio, and the students all fervently agree that the teacher definitely did not tell.

- matthias, wylan, kuwei, & jesper are all on st. aleksander’s soccer team. inej is on st. alina’s, and spends about an hour ranting about the evil new transfer student, dunyasha, who sees it as her job to outdo inej and make her look stupid.

- nina, the best friend she is, deals with dunyasha in her own special way. after all, “not all of us can be peaceful and serene.”

- nina and kuwei prefer to just cheer like crazy people for their friends (face paint, banners, and all.

where did they even get face paint?), & kaz can’t play due to his disability

- he also pretends not to care, but is always the first to find a way to subtly kick someone off the opposing team if they intentionally harm one of his friends.

- how he kept his restraint with dunyasha, lord knows.

- eventually the dregs come up with a very elaborate map of the dormitories drawn by wylan and dutifully annotated by the rest of the dregs, that they use for their own individual purposes

- matthias & nina use it to visit each other past curfew, as do wylan & jesper. inej looks at it once, memorizes it, and uses it to sometime pop into the rest of the dregs’ rooms at 2:00 am, just for kicks.

- nina & jesper are those kids that will find ways to alter their uniforms without getting in trouble. sometimes jesper wears a bright green tie with his uniform since the student handbook Never Really Specified what color tie, other times nina will wear ridiculously dramatic makeup because the school simply says it allows makeup but not How Much

- jesper sneaks into kuwylan’s dorm a lot to help wylan out with studying, despite kuwei’s assurance that he helps wylan just fine. neither wylan nor kuwei are complaining

- a teacher once snapped at wylan for not being able to read what was on the board. somehow, mysteriously, in the same week that teacher was fired after reports were leaked of them repeatedly verbally abusing students. kaz claims no involvement because how dare you inej, you really think i’d do that? after all these years, where is the trust.

- general rule of the school is as follows: if the dregs get in trouble? you heard nothing, you saw nothing, you say nothing. you agree with all the claims they make. don’t ask too many questions.
