Unreliable narrators are one hell of an idea. You can just write whatever, and if a reader points out "hey the way this scene happened should not be physically possible if it's done the way this character described it", you can just be like "yeah I don't trust that fucker either."

Make them cry out of fear, out of desperation. Begging on their knees. Pleading for something they won't get.

Make them delirious with pain, crying just because it's the only thing their body can do.

Make them tremble and sob in their sleep, trapped in a nightmare they won't even remember once they wake up.

Make them resist it. Make them swallow the lump in their throat and shut their eyes tight. Make them shake their head as if their mere stubborness could stop the tears already streaming down their cheeks.

Make them angry. Banging their fists against tables or walls. Shouting to nobody at all.

Make them quiet. Have nobody notice when their lips tremble and they turn around to wipe their eyes.
