What do you think about respawn/permashifting?

I have decided to take this topic because I like this question!

In the shifting community, we do have a lot of negativity around respawning and permashifters. So today, I would like to get rid of some of that, for anyone who may see this.

Since this is a touchy subject, I am adding a keep reading bar.

TW/Below will be mentions of d*ath/dy*ng.

For those who do not know the difference between permashifting and respawning,

Respawning is leaving this original reality behind. You may see "OR" used, which means Original Reality. Respawning has a lot of negativity around it because people assume it means you are dying here. That is a bigggg misconception. Respawning is just cutting all ties to this reality and not coming back.

As for Permashifting,

Permashifting is shifting to your desired reality "DR" and staying there permanently. The main difference is, that most permashifters don't remove all ties from here. They just don't put their consciousness back here.

Both mean not returning, just one is removing ties from here.

As for my opinion on it, I have debated permashifting. I have never considered respawning, but I do not judge anyone who does (within them not telling people they are going to sewer slide to leave.). I think it is normal to not want to return. Shifting is full of wonderful opportunities, adventures, acceptance, friendship, confidence, and much more.

It is completely fine to not return, as for it is completely fine to change your mind and return (one thing with Permashifting is you can change your mind, it just changes to a regular shift). It is fine to just want to go for the day or a week, or however long.

I think that once you research it, you learn about misconceptions versus what actually happens, it isn't bad or taboo or negative.

Every journey is unique to the person and I think as a community, we have to support each other. (Within reason). I know a lot of our admins are permashifters, this reality doesn't treat everyone right and this world is stressful.

A quick summary is, that it is completely fine and normal and misconceptions are the only negative thing I can think about with the topic!

I was reading some of your posts (I really want to go to a One Piece DR, too) and I saw that you talked about channeling, but I don't know what does it mean. Could you talk about and tell me how to do it?

Oi! Admin Jax here, We do have a post on channeling, but if you need more help you can check out our shifting discord! On there, we can provide 1 on 1 or group session teachings about channeling as much as we can! At one point and another, we were all beginners at it! A quick definition of channeling, it is contacting the higher self of the person of that dr but with their memories of that dr. So they'll know you, you can discuss things, and you can even channel them from a certain time period in your dr.

I love this anime and I want to go to a One Piece DR. I would like to be a Strawhat crew member, but I’m afraid about how they will behave in my presence, if they will like me, etc… I had a break and now I want to try it again, but I think that it is blocking me.

Another question: a lot of people say that you can bring objects from your DR to your reality. I know that’s fake, but if I go back to a reality where this object always existed, it works?

i had this exact same fear the first few times i almost shifted. i always got stuck worrying about how i'd interact with the strawhats, if they'd even like me. i always got caught up thinking about if they'd secretly find me super annoying.

the truth is they're not just your crew, they're your family! plus, you'll have all your memories of them when you first shift. they all love you and i'm positive they'll like you, especially since luffy invited you to the crew. if it makes you feel better, you could also always script that you have your desired relationships with all of them for the extra sureness (? is that a word. it is now!)

no matter what your crew will love you so don't let your anxiety hold you back from your family!!

also! if you shift back to a reality where the object existed, then yes, you'd have it! for example if someone gave you a ring in your dr and you wanted to shift back to a reality where you still had the ring!

things to do in your one piece dr!

this is a list of ideas for scenarios to script or imagine for inspiration and motivation, so i hope you enjoy~

p.s these will be tailored to the strawhat crew, but if you want another crew, let us know!

scenarios under the cut <3

- play truth or dare with the whole crew a late night, maybe a celebration and maybe some booze is involved because hey, drinking is what pirates do best. what kind of outrageous stunts can you get your crew to pull?

- sunbathing with nami laying on the deck, lounging in the grass or maybe in a lawn chair and letting the sun kiss your skin, maybe getting a nice tan while you’re at it. make sure to wear sun screen and try to avoid any embarrassing tan lines, or else she’ll never let you hear the end of it.

- napping with zoro sure he can be a pain, but if there’s one thing the swordsman knows, it’s the best ways to nap. if he says a spot is good for sleeping than i’d believe him. the life of a pirate is exciting enough; maybe you should take a moment to relax.

- cooking with sanji the strawhat’s chef is the best in the grand line. he can always give you a few pointers, and maybe you’ll get to taste test the next big meal he has planned. whatever it is, i’m sure it won’t disappoint!

- painting with usopp ask to borrow a canvas and some paints and he’ll be over the moon with excitement. maybe you could take turns painting each other, or just some pleasant scenary. whatever it is you make, usopp is always good company and easy to talk to, so enjoy yourself!

- fishing with luffy, chopper, and usopp whether it’s just for fun or if you’re fishing for your next meal, the boys are always sure to make it exciting. be prepared for it to turn into a competition between you, luffy, and usopp; all the while chopper’s amazed with every catch.

- being read to by robin and franky winding down for the night and having your best pirate parents there to read you your favorite story. who cares how old you are? everyone needs a good bedtime story once in a while. robin’s soothing voice and franky’s enthusiastic remarks create the perfect, safe environment. be prepared for the whole crew to join, though.

- partying with the crew no matter what the occasion, the strawhats know how to celebrate. a feast prepared by sanji and the perfect soundtrack performed by brook, and party tricks that luffy has learned throughout the years- everything is sure to entertain.

- singing with brook the skeleton musician always seems to know your favorite song at a glance. why don’t you spend some time with those old bones and sing along as he plays. maybe some of the crew will join in, as well.

- play wrestling with chopper he’s big, sweet, and fluffy. perfect to play wrestle with. hey, maybe he’s ticklish as well? only one way to find out!

- carrying the crew around surprise someone with a piggyback ride, or scoop them up for fun! especially if you’re super strong in your dr, this one is perfect. my personal favorite is to pick up sanji bridal style. remind him of his mortality a bit.

- play pranks with luffy your captain loves to be mischievous, so why not join him and torment the crew a little? all in good nature, of course. jump out and scare usopp, replace sanji’s cigarettes with lollipops. just be careful; prank the wrong strawhat, and you’ll wind up with a full-fledged prank war on your hands.

I saw you talking about channeling and this reminded me of something I saw in the shifting reddit. It was someone talking about channeling a character who would go to your wr and press a button who would make you shift! I was a lil suspicious about that, but since no one who actually knew how to channel said anything, I had no more info about it. What you think about it?

this is... an interesting idea, but unfortunately not possible.

when you channel someone, you channel their higher self. with this being said they would be unable to interact with the world around them and will forget the channel immediately afterward, so this theory would be impossible in actual practice.

though it's a good way to.. think about it! LOL

maybe you could use this as a shifting method and visualize someone pressing a button~

Hey! I'm a shifter too, in my wr I've scripted there's a laptop that can answer any headcanons or questions. Still haven't managed a complete shift, but I'm trying. I'm so interested in using shifting to find out things about characters. Do you use shifting in anyway to answer headcanon asks? I personally want to know what the "real" answer to ask's are instead of what a person would want to here. Could I request relationship hc's for Croccodile with a male s/o?

oh, i love the idea of having a laptop that can generate the answers to headcanons, that would make our job 10x easier LOL.

we don't necessarily use shifting itself to answer headcanon asks, but usually we draw from our experience interacting with the characters. we can also use divination forms such as channeling, tarot cards, pendulum, shufflemancy, etc...

the one you would most likely want to know about if you're looking to communicate with people from your DR is channeling, which to quote admin jax is "a form of divination where you can speak, hear, be touched, or feel their presence. it's the process of communicating with someone in reality's higher self."

of course, when channeling you cannot be physically harmed, even if you can feel touch. the most you’ll get is a phantom pain, and that’s in rare scenarios where the person you’re channeling decides to be a little silly. (for example, when sanji kicked admin blue and she could feel it in her ribs, or when my drself used her devil fruit on me and i could feel the sting 💀)

most of our admins have experience with channeling since we usually channel our crewmates / people from our drs! personally, i've channeled sanji the most, and i can usually keep sessions going for an hour or more at a time if i'm not drained!

now why we wouldn't usually use this for answering asks, there's two reasons:

channeling can be really draining, especially if it's not someone you're accustomed to channeling regularly! one of the first times i channeled sanji, i kept the channel open for over an hour, and once i closed it i felt like falling over asleep LOL

two, the recipient may not always be comfortable answering the questions asked. for example if i hit up crocodile rn and asked, "hey, my man, how would you act around your boyfriend?" he might try to stab me LOL

if anyone wants to know more about channeling or the process of doing it, feel free to send an ask and i'll always gladly elaborate further!

it's honestly so fun to channel lolol not every one piece fan can say that they've been personally yelled at by boa hancock (i was terrified)
