This situation in Sudan makes me so so so so so mad and angry because they CUT OFF the Internet so people can’t say what’s happening there and they rely on US to be SAVED because they’re currently living a NIGHTMARE they can’t even go to the streets NORMALLY and they can’t do ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE THERE IS NO INTERNET. Get Together Fest!

So, this is just an information post, but rather important.

First and foremost: Hi and welcome to this funky Get Together fest! We are three people running it/modding, and we chose nicknames for ourselves because we’re extra.

We have Mod Hedwig ( @stonecoldhedwig ), Mod Confunded ( @confunded-gryffindor ) and Mod Alien ( @loganaa-fic ).

We’re currently working on rules and a schedule, so nothing is set in stone just yet. (We’re sincerely hoping that what we have planned out won’t collide with other fests.) This is possibly very short notice, because it was something that was started and almost finished today, so please hit us up when the schedule is released if you guys need more time.

But, despite the fact that we started planning today, we do have the essentials planned out.

So, what is this fest about? You might ask. Well, we want to bring the wolfstar community together again. There’s been a lot of drama and stuff going on, so we thought that it would be nice to just bring us all back to what the R/S community is.

This is a collaborative fest, where the focus is to work on something together with at least two people. You can choose to collaborate on a fic, an artwork or both. So, you bring together a little team of at least two people, AKA. you and a friend, maybe you and two friends, etc. You get it.

You work on something together. A fic, an artwork, a fic with an artwork, etc etc. It’s all up to you.

The main goal is simply collaboration and working together, with a focus on Remus and Sirius’ relationship and them as characters.

We (the Mods) have also decided that you don’t necessarily have to write or draw something romantic, but you could use R/S as a platonic/non-romantic ship. Because as stated above, the main focus is collaboration and focusing on R/S as characters and relationship, whether it’s romantic or not.

So, I guess this is all for now! Spread this around if you think it’s a nice idea, and we’ll be back with the schedule and rules as soon as it’s finished! (Which is hopefully tomorrow)

In The Fire

Remus: Look Harry, what you’ve got to understand is that your father and Sirius were the best in the school at whatever they did. Everyone thought they were the height of cool.

Someone smirking when an authority figure tells you that you did something wrong can feel like bullying. Especially because Arya was already insecure, and Jeyne had been mean to Arya a lot of times already.

Arya Stark: a complicated character reduced to the tomboy preconceptions

It’s not simple being a masculine fiery ugly little girl. I know girls that were a bit like Arya in their childhood, including myself and I thought I’d say something about how I understand her experience. 

Life sucks when you can’t be the perfect, beautiful and feminine little girl everyone expects us to be. When you’re a child, you just want to have fun and play around with everything you can, experience all possibilities, and that includes boys games and boys sports etc, but you’re supposed to be pretty and poised and always be perfect. Children aren’t okay with that, because they only care about having fun. Arya rebels because she wants to be a child. Being a lady to her is about being deprived from fun. Sewing, learning etiquette and courtesy is boring to her.

But at the same time she still envies her sister because Sansa was the perfect girl. Her first chapter in A Game of Thrones starts with her trying to copy Sansa’s sew work, failing and being bullied by her and the other girls: Jeyne Poole, Beth Cassel, Princess Myrcella and even Septa Mordane would join in the whispering and laughing. While Arya felt isolated, she would think about how Septa Mordane was feeling about having Princess Myrcella there, how she would praise Sansa’s work but say mean things about Arya’s. 

She also doesn’t feel beautiful. She clearly demonstrates she’s insecure about her appearance and gets awkward about femininity, not because she wants to be a boy, but because she can’t feel confident as a feminine girl. We know she’s insecure and wishes she could be as pretty as her sister. Her rebellion comes from hurt.

“Sansa could sew and dance and sing. She wrote poetry. She knew how to dress. She played the high harp and the bells. Worse, she was beautiful. Sansa had gotten their mother’s fine high cheekbones and the thick auburn hair of the Tullys. Arya took after their lord father. Her hair was a lusterless brown, and her face was long and solemn. Jeyne used to call her Arya Horseface, and neigh whenever she came near. It hurt that the one thing Arya could do better than her sister was ride a horse.”

Of course she wouldn’t want to be in sewing classes, which she had no talent for and where she was bullied. Not wanting to be a lady is about knowing that she’s not like Sansa, Jeyne, Beth and Myrcella. It’s about acknowledging she has other talents and doesn’t want to try to fit in with the bullies anymore. It’s definitely not about wanting to be a boy. She was denied her femininity by everyone around her, she didn’t abnegate it herself.

At this initial point she can’t understand yet what it really means to be a lady, just as Sansa still can’t and will only understand after years and years. She still associates being a lady with just being feminine, beautiful, a mother etc. But even Catelyn Stark wasn’t only that. I don’t think she’ll deny being a lady after she grows up and understands the importance of taking leadership of her house to protect it in the absence of her sister. I think eventually she’ll come to terms with everything she is and accept being a lady and at the same time a fighter.  

That’s why Gendrya shippers are on the right side here. They don’t see her as this one dimensional tomboy who will always have the same mindsent from when she was a 10 year old, who then couldn’t even fully grasp what it meant to be a lady. She doesn’t need to go through puberty as an assexual murderer and she’s not. She’s still Arya Stark, she’s a fighter and she’s still a girl.

If you can’t see her possibly getting over the bullying, her appearance and her awkwardness with femininity and ladyhood in the future, then I don’t know if you hope she’ll ever grow as a character. To me it would be such weird writting if in the end she’d still be the same Arya from the beginning, who becomes a knight and dies, or becomes Sansa’s guard, or anything that would make her simply a sword. And a lot of people were waiting for that and I always hated the idea. She’s not that simple.

What I want to see

A Draco&Arthur Weasley brotp HC

I want to see Arthur being in charge of reintegrating the death eater kids into society

I want to see Draco who doesn’t show up for his first appointment, and instead of reporting it and effectively sending Draco to Azkaban, Arthur pays him a visit at home and finds him overdosed on the couch

I want to see Arthur taking Draco to St. Mungo’s and visiting him every day after work

And Draco slowly becoming himself again, and apologising for the terrible way Lucius and the Malfoy family in general had treated Arthur and his family

“But dear boy, you’re not responsible for your father’s actions, now, are you?” 

“Maybe not. But I’m still sorry, sir.” 

And it’s not like Arthur forgives him just like that, of course not. But he is an energetic man whose kids have recently all moved out, and he needs a new project which hopefully ends better than his Ford Anglia

He starts bringing over muggle magazines and books, which they discuss over gross hospital tea, and later over some proper English blend in a decent tea room

To his surprise Arthur finds a fellow muggle-enthusiast in Draco, though the Malfoy heir is a lot less outspoken about it than he is

To Draco’s surprise he finds the interested, kind father-figure in Arthur that he never found in Lucius

Soon enough it’s a ritual to go out and do something muggle every Wensday afternoon, and sometimes it’s only the prospect of these meetings that keep Draco from killing himself. 

When Draco carefully vocalizes that to Arthur, the old man pulls him into a hug and says “I wish life had more to offer you than me, but I’m glad that you have something. And I promise you, you’ll always have this for as long as you need it.”

It is for this reason that Arthur gets very twitchy when he takes a fall down the stairs on a monday morning and has to go to St. Mungo’s with a broken hip. Will he be able to go out on Wensday?

But he needn’t have worried. The next morning a large bouquet of flowers (from a muggle stand, obviously) sits on his nightstand with a (muggle, again) get well card from one D.M. 

What neither one of them have taken into account though, is how this looks to Molly. First she thought her husband was just going to a muggle book club (because that’s where Arthur said he was going. The subject of Death Eaters was a sore one), but he came back on Wensday nights looking a bit too happy for that. 

And now he got a card from a D.M., who was clearly a woman because no man writes with such elegance, or is so good at aranging flowers. 

She’s not sure how to proceed now. She could confront Arthur of course, but with Fred’s death and Percy abandoning them still fresh in her mind, she’s not sure she will. She doesn’t want to rip her family apart if she’s not absolutely sure of herself. 

So, on a wensday afternoon after Arthur’s hip is healed again, she follows him, sneaks into the tea room, and finds…

Draco Malfoy theatrically explaining why the Fiat Multipla was definetly the ugliest car ever made, and that he got Arthurs point about the Nissan Cube, but come on Arthur, the thing has a double chin for crying out loud. It might sit three people in the front, but you’ll never be able to find three people who even want to sit in the front so that’s a useless asset. Admit it, the Multipla is way worse. 

Molly can’t stiffle her laughter after that, and half an hour later she finds herself listening to an ever weirder growing conversation between her husband and the Malfoy heir about building a boat out of a car, whilst sipping tea. 

She sits back and even starts to enjoy herself after coming to grips with the fact that apparently not all Malfoy’s are awful. 

And when one H. Potter finally realises too, that not all Malfoy’s are awful, and that one Malfoy in particular could very well be described as fuck that is one very fine arse,I think you might be my future husband “meeting the family” isn’t nearly as awkward as it could have been. 

In fact, it’s not awkward at all. And though Draco now does have more to live for than his visits to the tea room with Arthur, they never stop going there. Sometimes with Molly, sometimes with Harry, and later even with their kids, but they never stop. After all, spending time with your best friend is just too much fun to ever quit.
