i want you to know that i literally stopped writing a paper to answer this. i have SO many fic recs!! also hi & thank you :)

first off, i would be legally shot dead if i didnt recommend @ahyperactivehero's ongoing fic, greatest in the league. this is a payneland palaski modern university au, where charles is a hockey player and edwin is a skater. it updates on friday's and is actually the only thing keeping me alive

i think i have rec'd this one before but ghosts and monsters by justafandomfollower. this is an au (this will be a running trend with my recs lol) where before edwin is able to escape hell the first time, charles is sent there, too. it's completed & it's actually so good guys i've read it like 7 times i see it when i close my eyes

this would be a failure of a list if i didn't mention @genevievefangirl's ongoing fic, my life ended when they called your name. i haven't actually gotten the chance to read much of it yet but the start of it is so good and i know for a fact the rest is too -- it's a hunger games au where edwin & charles are both tributes. it's actually so sad you're going to cry but i'll hold your hand while you do dw

hands and arms and limbs and et cetera by nevernooit goes into the fun body horror of edwin being used to using his body parts for magic, since he's used to losing them. this is such a good read, and it's not too too long so you can finish it and then still have time to cry about it before you have to go back to laundry

idk where you've been if you haven't read wunderkammer by @dear-monday and @tw0-ravens, but it's this really cool fantasy au where charles applies for a maintenance job at the london athenaeum, a fantasy museum where edwin works. it's fire and everyone should be legally obligated to read it

i'm gonna advertise another ongoing fic from hyperactivehero twist of fate because everything she writes is just so delicious. returning to hell for the second time makes edwin forget he ever escaped, and it deals with the messy aftermath of charles rescuing him and then returning to port townsend. it's so good i literally scream whenever it updates (which is on tuesdays!)

the only fic i've ever bookmarked (not a joke) is not so secret by lola_prongs which is this absolutely delectable au told through tweets where edwin and charles are both celebrities, and charles is highkey fanboying for edwin on main ..... it's just SO cute and it's really fun to have this outsider perspective but the outsider is literally The Internet. it's literally just so funny everyone go read it rn. i literally just reread it now bc i had the link so legally i had to sob

also, if you don't already know, apocalaugust (an event where people write apocalypse themed events) is coming up, so you'll be getting many new fire fics from quite a few people.... keep your eyes peeled for that (i am one of those people hi nice to meet you)

“‘Get a hold of me,’ hm?” Edwin asked, quotation marks bracketing his words. “What do you intend to do now that you have?”

All thoughts went out the window. Every single one of his thoughts dove straight out the window and died in a fiery explosion. He knew how Edwin meant it, but now that he’d said it like that there was no way Charles could interpret it any different.

Never let him go? Beg him to stay? Beg him to let Charles stay?

“Whatever you wanna do,” Charles answered finally, sure that was the only acceptable answer he could give.

Edwin thought for a moment. “And what if all I want to do is sit here and watch detective shows all day,” he asked.

Charles pretended to think about it. “That depends. You gonna stay awake for it, or pass out twenty minutes in? And is it only detective shows or are we adding in some reality TV?”

“Uncertain,” Edwin said, also leaning back further until Charles’s arm was grazing the back of his neck. “The day is so young, after all.”

His arm crept a bit further down, just a hair away from deniability. “Guess it is, mate,” he said.

In a lot of our DBDA AU fics, we make Edwin an orphan, and it has kinda become a running joke in our AU brainstorming. So many fics we come up with have Edwin's parents be dead (I have 1 published fic and 4 wips with him as an orphan so far, and I'm sure I'll have more)

While chatting the other day, we all thought, "Hey, we should try and make it a canon tag on AO3!" So we tagged all our fics that apply!
