So...this happened tonight...

And I am beyond myself.

Even after all the hard work recording, editing, and getting the word out, I never thought I’d reach 100 in less than 10 months. I’m stunned, I’m overjoyed, I’m so GRATEFUL to all my viewers and subscribers.

Yesterday was my parents’ anniversary and the first since Mom died in March. It was a hard day to get through. Thanks for giving me a happy memory for today. I just can’t believe it. I wish Mom could have been here to see me reach this milestone.

I saw this:

and couldn’t help but smile and feel motivated.

Then I saw the comments. People claiming they were unfollowing, unsubbing, etc. People laying down “You’re not my ___!” The majority of people generally being negative.

Yeah, I know, it’s the internet. People are more apt to be sarcastic, mean, and downright cruel.

But you know what else?

This post was most likely meant to be inspirational.

Some comments thanked him for the reminder. Some were glad someone motivated them to do “that thing.” But they were drowned out by the people trying to be funny and get a rise out of Mark.

There are many of us who have put off “that thing” for quite some time because we lack the resources, we lack the energy, we lack the confidence, the self-esteem, the courage to do “that thing.” We all have “that thing” and we all have our reasons for not doing it. And most of the time we don’t do “that thing” because of the negative things we hear or we fear we’ll hear if we try to do the thing.

So I want to be a positive voice in this conversation. Mark, thanks for the reminder, and for those of you reading this, be motivated.

Do that thing you said you were gonna do.

You can do it. You’ve got this. You’ve got the skill, the talent, the ability to do it. We have your back, we’re rooting you on, we’re cheering for you. We can’t wait to hear the amazing things that happened because you finally went and did the thing.

A thought occurred to me...

YouTubers and comic book superheros have a LOT in common:

They go by alter-ego names, such as Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, or, um...*cough* ...Kimtana... *cough*

They have repeatable catch-phrases

The recording setup/studio is their bat-cave or fortress of solitude

They have logos and branding that are instantly recognizable, as either a single letter or a simple image

Each has a unique skill, style, or method that sets them apart from others as their superpower

But there’s ONE way that YouTubers differ from comic book superheros, and that’s this:

Comic heroes are fictional. They can’t do anything to save anything in the real world

YouTubers are a force for good that has tangible, real outcomes and makes a genuine difference in this world.

YouTubers are able to:

Help dispel pain, depression, loneliness

while they don’t cure these, a gander in the comments section of any video will show you the difference that was made in someone’s life. You will inevitably find people who state that the YouTuber literally saved their lives.

Raise awareness and funds for charity and causes

Bring joy and laughter into a world filled with hurt, grief, and apathy

Not all heroes wear capes and costumes. The real, true ones have mics and cameras.
