#Terraria tutorial

Terraria has got to be the most funniest and chaotic game i have played (also spolier warning ig!!!), you start the game, make a character, create a world and then you're just plopped in there. No tutorial, nothing. You see some dude with brown (i think) hair and just press right-click, see a dialogue option labelled 'help' and think "oh! this gotta be how to go to the tutorial!" and NOPE! Think again fucker 'cause you better chop some wood and build a house because the night is dangerous (OoOoOoOh very spooky). So, you look up "Terraria Beginner Guide" (or something along the lines of that) and y'know you just get going, build houses, explore the underground, maybe built a hellevator, and you even built an arena (im so proud)! Then suddenly the text "You feel an evil Presence watching you" pops up and you know that you better get to your arena 'cause its very spooky big eyeball time (hooray).
So after you beat the very big Eye of Cthulu you get some loot, fast forward to The Wall of Flesh. This is it. The final challenge in Pre-Hardmode. The Gate to see if you have what it takes to go to Hardmode. And now, it begins. After you throw the doll of the person who pranked you out of a Tutorial into the lava below, you hear a roar, before a wall made out of flesh with two huge Eyeballs and a gaping wide Mouth comes at you. It was a great battle, with you seemingly being at equal with the giant fleshy wall. You threw everything you got at it: Bullets, Fire, Ice, even that Imp you found on the street. Ater a long Battle with many Hardships, you won. But only now....
The Fun really begins.
Oh, you thought that you could go out at night? Think again fucker, mf-ing Werewolves. You thought that Molten Armor/ Meteorite Armor was gonna protect you? Dont make me laugh. "Atleast I have my NPCs?" Wrong! You feel vibrations from deep below. Hardmode is the game's most challenging part imo, because not only is everything new, but also beefier, stronger, and more annoying to deal with. Oh, there's also a new Biome where, you guessed it! Everything kills you! It isnt as bad if you're more experienced and prepared alot of stuff, but unfortunately, most newer Players dont do that, and I've even seen some leave permanently because dying constantly wasnt fun anymore. But we dont quit, do we? No. Because our Mamas didnt raise us to be quitters! Uhh motivational quote, yadda yadda yadda etc. So. you actually persist, get better gear, and even kill a mechanical boss! So you get better weapons and gear, kill another Mechanical Boss and the last one is now dead. So you get clorophyte (No i will not look up how it's spelt and i really couldnt care less), get better-er gear and fight Plantera. This pink plant bitch is probably one of the best bosses in the game, and i am sad that it has some of the worst loot in the game imo. anyways, you unlock the temple, kill golem (Man Re-logic really need to buff this dude) get better-er-er gear and fight the lunatic cultist. Kill him, get the only drop (Man Re-logic really need to buff this dude's loot) and fight the celestial pillars. cool, you can now make weapons from SpAaAaAaaAAaace. Each of which correspond to a class (Solar=Melee, Vortex=Ranged,Nebula=Mage,Stardust=Summoner). but suddenly, the screen gets darker and more wonky, the music is gone and then,
The Moon Lord has Awoken!
Out of bloody nowhere, the final boss is here. The Final Challenge. The Wall between you and the End. After having improved so much and died so much, like, WOW those are alot of deaths, you are at the final blockade. And after a battle you will remember forever, you come out on top, victorious. You are at the top of the 2d Mountain. You have beaten everything. You have beaten
Terraria.
#holy fucking shit#this took so long#its like 4am#i dont even know if there was a tutorial or not#terraria#oh thank god it's over#just wait till you find out about calamity

It is kinda crazy how Terraria, 8th best selling game of all time, after however many final updates, still doesn't have a tutorial in the pc. It's kinda funny if anything at this point.

its really funny how the only reason minecraft has stayed popular over the years is because its already popular. there are nearly no ingame tutorials, its in theory worse in that department then terraria, yet the sheer amount of videos and wiki articles and posts about it replace the tutorial. if it launched today with all its features it would die off very quickly

why are you actually so talented.
like how drop a tutorial pal
or I WILL personally place several ants inside of your pants
okay but seriously like how do you do all the roblox animating, the undertake things, and just all that cool stuff you do? I’d love to learn!!
bro is NOT subpar
I just was inspired by my friend burger to do some of the stuff he does
If you ever get to see some of the stuff he does its essentially the exact same but far better! A lot of my actual work I do is just me finding ways to avoid showing the glaring flaws in my competency to make it look presentable as nice
Although I know a lot of stuff, I'm not actually super good at anything I do truly, so I call myself subpar overall because I feel like that's the best way to describe everything I do, even if I can do a lot.
The animating stuff I tried learning more of in a day just so I could give Daisy a present, which is why it looked choppy because I stayed up super long trying to make it look nice for them, I wanted to do something kind. But some of those skills were when I tried developing games in the past on Roblox. Its only really worth animating on roblox if you can obtain moon animator for free though, otherwise itd just be better to animate in blender The sprite creation/pixel art i picked up when I wanted to make a character for rivals of aether with burger and eventually got to make a terraria resource pack which lead to me getting to speak to the creator a bit. Really most of it looks special at a glance until you get aseprite, which made everything really nice to get into and is one of the only media software I know that doesn't try to oversimplify things for a general audience but in return makes it simpler to be creative The little undertale dialog sprites I drew out of boredom and decided to use sometimes, theres a website for generating them but its only really useful for getting text the dialog stuff is better to just manually edit in aseprite https://www.demirramon.com/generators/undertale_text_box_generator its hard to explain but once you start developing skills in basic programs other completely different programs start becoming easier too, so you can always explore multiple different forms of media creation at once and it could open up being able to understand software easier. Programs tend to have some familiarities even if they do drastically different things like being a drawing application or creating 3D models. Sorry though I should talk about myself less lol
I like making stuff with a purpose, like a profile picture or something for a game or a gift for someone else instead of creating stuff just for the love of creation, which isn't that good of a mindset but it can make you far more proud of your work, even if you aren't at a level you see as good yet.
Really I'm only at a base-decent level at everything I've shown off on this profile, so if you want to go ahead and try it'd be quick to learn.
...if you have a pc
I wouldn't do any of this on a mobile phone nearly as efficient
(besides full art, I'd probably be better at that on a tablet)
Mobile creators have to put like 3-15 times the effort just for the same product sometimes due to its inefficiency and I deeply respect their efforts
The one thing I have 0 talent at though is anything social related, I should work on being a better person hehehe
Angel is really talented at being a cool person and I am inspired by them to be cooler too, same with chip and asa and a lot of other people who are helpers and above
wait this is derailing fast uhhhh bye guys!!!!!

B3313+
I want a B3313 variant of every game with beta elements and stuff such as Minecraft, Terraria, old Roblox and Oneshot I really want a 20w14∞ inside of beta/alpha Minecraft with unused/removed content, new structures, a tutorial world and variants of C418's tracks/whole new C418 inspired tracks for biomes and more using the original soundfont
It would kind of be like a expansion of the 20w14∞ snapshot inside of old Minecraft

Riku 💙
I can't see him doing content, I feel like he'd be more of a private person
although i feel like he might show up in Sora's streams from time to time
he's the person Sora calls when he gets stuck on a hard part
Sora also calls him to get his reaction to certain things. if not in person, then thru discord

Kairi 🌸
as for gaming, i can see her streaming rhythm games, like Project Diva

meme reaction videos occasionally
plays with funny mods
Bonus: Isa 🌙
Similar to Riku, he doesn't create content, but he does play games sometimes
also enjoys listening to podcasts and reading
will tune in to Lea and Ven's streams on occasion
is amused by Lea's screaming when he's not playing with him
plays games with Lea and Ven
does not understand Roxas and Lea's memes
Aqua ❄️
i think it's canon that she likes to bake, so i think she could run a cooking channel or a cooking blog
she'll have terra or eraqus come in at the end to taste test the food
canonically is into arts and crafts, so maybe she'll make videos about jewelry-making and 3D printing
i can also see her making crystal bracelets
maybe she could run her own online shop?
Terra 🤎
defo a gym bro
does workout tutorials
does those videos where he shows what he eats in a day
canonically is into woodworking so he could do content surrounding that too
and 3D printing
i just think 3D printing is cool okay
plays Smash with Ven. Things get pretty heated between them
Ventus 💚
also streams minecraft, roblox and fortnite
also Lethal Company
also likes Sonic
tries to get Terra to play with him, but those type of games just aren't for him
"You kids and your video games"
Aqua doesnt too much understand it either
plays with Sora, Lea, and Isa
tries to play asymmetrical horror games
plays Smash with Terra. that game might singlehandedly tear their friendship apart
Bonus: Vanitas ☠️
plays online games
CoD, Overwatch, etc
Typical toxic gamer. You don't wanna hear him in lobbies
Has been banned from vc multiple times
None of the GoL wanna play with him lmao

Masterpost!
Hello, everyone! I'm Smoral! Not my real name, obviously, but internet privacy is important.
(If you know me in real life, no you don't!)
This blog mainly serves as a public diary, in which I scream my trashy, trashy hot takes into the void. I also post about my interests, and I would like to start posting art and writing on occasion, if I feel so inclined. If you're interested, read below the cut!
I have a wide variety of interests. Some that come to mind (my favorites will be in bold) include:
80s Pop Music, Chappell Roan, Taylor Swift, Pop Music in General, Florence and The Machine, Hozier, The Crane Wives, Mitski, Tally Hall, and Basic White Girl(tm) musical theater.
I like Hades, Fallout 4*, Terraria, Minecraft, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, The Sims 4, Stardew Valley, Hypnospace Outlaw, and a whole bunch of other games that I've played here and there.
I really need to read more, but some books that I've enjoyed include: The Crucible, In The Dream House, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and others. I also enjoy Alison Bechdel's body of work.
I visit the movie theater a lot, and so I basically post about whatever movie I've just seen.
I also post stuff related to art and writing, analysis, and political content, I'm not a super fan of anything, so my knowledge on a certain topic may not be great, but I still enjoy talking about them! I'm also not super defensive, so if you personally don't like something, that's okay as well. I think everyone is entitled to their own perspective, for the most part. The exception to this is politics, as I simply cannot, and will not, tolerate someone who doesn't believe in basic human rights.
*RE: Fallout, I've been considering making a separate blog, just so I can reblog stuff about Piper Wright.
This blog is a MESS. I do want to implement some form of organization for prior posts, though. Here are the tags that I intend to use:
laugh.txt for funny posts
me.txt for stuff that I find personally relatable
shut up smoral for anything original that I post
smoral can't draw for art
smoral can't write for writing
analysis.txt for posts discussing media
politics.txt for politics and societal trends
helpful tips for tutorials and general life skills
posts pertaining to a piece of media will be tagged with the name of the media.
other people's art for fanart
other people's writing for writing
slanek.txt for posts that would interest my partner, mainly stuff about star trek and trains.
I also put commentary in the tags.
I think that's about it! Hope you enjoy my blog!
The blinkies were made by blinkie maker, with the Kirby blinkie and Rainbow Flag belonging to Anakin.
The text was created with random text generators online, and edited by myself in procreate.
I unfortunately don't know who created the alien and little blorbo guy, but I am happy to credit if someone claims ownership!

One of my friends asked me what my top 10 games of all time are. I don't love these games for their quality, but for how influential they were to me. A LOT of nostalgia. So, here it is, in no particular order:

Dark Souls is a very important game to me. I first played it when the xbox 360 version was given to xbox live gold members in... May of 2014?!? Holy Shit. Anyways, I couldn't beat the tutorial, rage quit and uninstalled it. Picked it back up a few months later, beat the tutorial, couldn't beat the taurus demon, rage quit and uninstalled it. Picked it up a few months later, beat the taurus demon, etc. Basically, every major boss made me rage quit an uninstall it. And when I finally beat Ornstein and Smough, I was sick of it. I didn't come back until the remaster came out in 2018, and I didn't beat it for the first time until October of 2019. It was the first game to put me through such hardships, and I actually overcame it. It was a joyous occasion. I got all the achievements for the game a week later, and I still return to it and play through it every once in a while. It's weird how such a difficult game is a source of enjoyment for me now.

Crash Bandicoot 2 was one of the first games I ever actually played. I have beaten this game 100% more times than I can count, and I return to it about once a year to beat it again. This was such an important part of my childhood gaming.

I love the original Spyro Trilogy. I owned all three of the original games, and I loved them I would cycle through beating the Spyro trilogy 100%, then I would beat crash 2, then I would beat Spyro again, ad infenatium. And yes, I do own the N-Sane and Reignited trilogy's, I am sooooo glad they came to Xbox.

The first time I played Resident Evil 5 was at a friends house when I was young, and I lost track of time because I played it for too long and got in trouble for it. It is the reason I played the other Resident Evil games, and why I love the series so much now.

Wizard101 is a children's game, primarily, but I played it as a child, and it is still fun as an adult! It was colorful and engaging, and getting online to play it with my friends after school was always a blast. I am glad it is still going strong so many years later. I even still have my old life wizard from way back in the day.
I played Minecraft first, but Terraria dug itself into my brain much more effectively. I remember when this game came out on consoles originally, and I played the shit out of it with my cousins, it was so much fun. Even to this day, I still play the shit out of this game. I currently have 486 hours in the steam version of this game.

Zombies, fucking Zombies, was my shit I still love playing zombies modes, and was the reason I played black ops 6 at all. Don't get me wrong, the campaigns are fun, and I've played multiplayer (I'm not good at it), but the zombies modes were my shit. I don't have any special stories for this one.
I don't remember what website I downloaded a free trial of Avernum IV from, but I will forever be thankful. Like Resident Evil 5, this game was my gateway drug into the world of Spiderweb Software's games. It is always thrill when they release a new game.

I don't remember how I discovered The Orange Box, but I'm glad I did. This was one of the first games I ever owned for my Xbox 360, and I am so glad I did. Half Life 2 and its extra episodes, Portal 1, and Team Fortress 2, what a great way to introduce console players to valve games. And I am a sucker for bundles.

Left 4 Dead is the game that sparked my zombie fascination. I played so fucking much of this game, and to this day, I will still load it up and play more of it, it was so good. It is a shame we will never get a third one.

Proposal for my new Project
Having now made all three of the “tutorial” games, I have been able to make an educated decision on which will be the most interesting and rewarding to develop. I have chosen the dungeon crawler, as I believe it has the best potential and ability to be innovated on. The infinite runner is something I have done before for Sweat Pursuit, and the block breaker is a very rudimentary concept gameplay-wise and something I am not interested in. Meanwhile, the dungeon crawler is immediately a multifaceted idea with elements of exploration, combat, and strategy interwoven. A lot can be added to this basic framework, including more complex health and ammo systems, AI for the enemies, and interesting level design and emergent gameplay in terms of problem-solving and combat puzzles. The top-down perspective is also something I have not yet really tried, which will require new artistic solutions to make assets for.
The current name for the project is “Accursed Crucible”. It will take place in a fantasy setting; specifically, within the titular Crucible, which is an ancient forge overrun with fell creatures. You play as a lowly dwarf armed with the Hammer of Heaven, a holy weapon that can banish the evil and purify the Crucible. Lore-wise I have some basic ideas; that the Hammer was created in the Crucible and is naturally drawn back to the place from which its metal was first poured. Forging its own destiny, as it were. The artstyle and sprites will likely be 16-bit, since smaller sprites take less time to draw, but I don’t want to make them too simplistic. This should allow a level of detail to be retained roughly on the level of a Terraria or RPGmaker NPC. The enemies will be typically evil fantasy creatures: orcs, undead, liches, and similar things. Lore-wise they have taken over the Crucible to forge their own holy weapon and wreak havoc with it, and of course the powers of heaven cannot abide that, so they have sent you as a sort of dwarven messiah. The combat will be as simple as it was in the dungeon crawler tutorial – move away from enemies while shooting your hammer’s projectiles at them. Strategy will be added by having to manage your own ammo; staying alive and out of danger while finding more. This then incentivises exploration when it would have otherwise been unnecessary beyond finding the exit.
I plan to go back to basics when it comes to the art assets for this game. I will use Photoshop for both character sprites (i.e. the dwarf and the enemies) and also for the tilemap. In-game most things will be paper flipbooks, as they were in my first project, Toxic Waters. Then Unreal is the obvious choice for development; though other things are available like Unity or Roblox, I see no benefit to using them for this, especially when my original dungeon crawler code is on Unreal anyhow. There will not be any new techniques this time, I think.
Here is a MSCW (Moscow) analysis of the project:
Must Have - Some nice spritework, health + ammo system, multiple enemy types
Should Have - Notes with lore, high score system, locked doors
Could Have - Chests with randomly generated loot, immersive-sim elements such as choosing to bash down a door at the cost of ammo, using a rare lockpick to open it, or searching around for the key
Won't Have - Multiple weapons, arena-locks
This week, I plan to lay the groundwork for the project, which is mostly gameplay. Health and ammo, enemy detection, more enemy types, ammo and health pickups, et cetera. If I have time, I will make sprites for everything, including the tilemap. How I will make the map I am still not sure - maybe a tilemap pointed upward with collision boxes to bulk out the walls?

So I remember ages back thinking about how terraria really doesn't have an in game tutorial in spite of it's success, but on reflection there's a lotta small things which work so well in that spirit of discovery.
One such example is that with most bosses the first time a player encounters them it won't be deliberate.
Eye of Cthulu can spawn at night when the player has enough health, same with the mech bosses, giving a sudden surge of difficulty and alarm to the player in both the start of a play through and the start of hardmode. Skeletron is spawned via a simple button prompt, which most players may press merely out of curiosity.
The wall of flesh may appear to spawn randomly when just navigating hell, leaving the player to figure out the conditions of it, then leading to an 'aha' moment when a voodoo demon drops the guide doll.
Plantera is a similar vein, as the player ventures into hardmode jungle for chlorphyte, the see a new resource, and may absent mindedly mine it, before realising their mistake.
These teach the player to always be prepared, but without too much punishment for messing up. On classic mode the only penalty for death is losing some money, and so for example with the eye of Cthulu, during that point of time you usually stay at spawn during nighttime, and so you can easily recover your money when it kills you.

tried dungeon defenders (2) bcuz i like sanctum which is another "action tower defence" game and also the terraria crossover having played the first 3 levels (i think the tutorial?) i can say that i think it really isn't my thing fur a few reasons im too stupid to rember enough to list out but also that i think i wamt a like, expanded version of the terraria old one's army thing actually?
#i thought of some concept but i openned sanctum instead of writing it out but#'what if nyou were defending a divinethoughtform type thing and it was sorta a 'roguelite tower defence' thingy with upgrades n path making#ill try to expand that concept later:3

A Recap on My Game Design
following my Uni study
WEEK 2 - PLAYTESTING!
The Goal
The goal of this tutorial is to get peer feedback on a functionally developed game. it did not have to be a complete game, but it needed to be developed in a way that it is playable and contain at least one level of content. this feedback is aimed to improve the development of the game and allow developers to better understand what the game needs for player enjoyment.
Noticeable Bugs
1) The first enemy jump.
While not so much a bug, and more so poor platform placements - this jump needs to be *perfectly* positioned and often timed to make it, otherwise this little alien guy will take quite a while to get to get back up to that small platform.
To fix - Will simply need to rearrange the length and position of the small platform to allow the player to jump whenever and still be able to reach the platform.
Alternatively, I can shorten the length of the wooden plank the leads to the gap the player can jump through to kill the enemy that will be pacing on the bottom level of these platforms (snipped as taken after enemy was defeated)
2) Weird Camera Bug when Sliding Down - Player is forced through the stage
This is a bug caused by platform placement. The conditions of the game do not understand how the player character (which is larger than the gaps provided) can get down the tiled sprite that is the log platform. As such, when forced down the plank, the camera rapidly glitches and the character stutters through the platform in the idle animation until it reaches the bottom platform.
To fix - I can possibly remove the platform as it does not prove much of a purpose at this point, and providing from the first bug mentioned, I will be changing the placement of the first grass platform.
I had tried to experiment with different angles of platforms; however, I could not figure out how to do that without this glitch.
For now, I will remove and experiment with these angles in a different level.
3) STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMMINAL SCUM!
This is another case of perspective getting the better of me - The wooden platform is only slightly higher than the grass platform, and so the character cannot move smoothly thought the stage. This little fella has to make an additional jump to get over this little inconvenience.
To fix - Move the platform down and make it flush with the other platform.
General Feedback
○ The game runs smoothly and is generally playable.
○ There are a few camera issues when the player character moves.
○ There are a few platforming issues in which it is difficult to reach some the platforms.
○ There is a double-jump feature enabled that does more harm than good in terms of playability and player control.
○ The platforming is a bit basic and could stand to have more challenge to it.
What I Want to Fix
Generally, I want to fix the platforming levels to create something more challenging and interesting to navigate to allow the puzzle of the murder mystery to be more engaging. some of my inspirations for these changes are Mega Man, It Takes Two, Cuphead
I also would like to focus on the camera perspective - at the moment is does focus solely on the player and therefore the camera is lower and hides more of the design in the background. I would like to make the camera static while still making the character the most visible. Some of my inspirations are donkey Kong, Space Invaders and Pizza Tower
Finally, I want to make death animations and respawning / health bar status for player and death animations for the enemies. I would also like to change to moving animation of the enemies to become more ghost like and add different attack animations for both the player to enemy and enemy to player. Inspirations are Stardew Valley and Terraria
Post-Mortem
To recap this tutorial, we were able to playtest other games and provide feedback, while also gaining feedback on my own game.
I have been provided with some great feedback from friends and peers, which has allowed me to create and strategize new ways to fix and polish my game, ready for submission at the end of this Semester.
I have been able to see where I am going wrong, and can pinpoint where bugs originate from.
