This. Exactly this, except it was just plain shampoo and not 2-in-1, and my father wore his hair in long curls but my mother's hair was straight so no one ever gave it a second thought. I should not have been so old before I found out my hair is really *curly* and not the big mess of tangles and frizz I always assumed and kind of halfway hated.

somewhere out there right now is a kid with curly hair being raised by people who have wavy hair at best and those people are giving them 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner and telling them to dry brush it. and that kid is gonna spend all of middle school and high school hating their hair and moping over the flat iron. they're being told right now that if they don't dry-brush their curl pattern into oblivion every morning it means they're unkempt and gross even though they naturally have the kind of ringlets that a thousand bridezillas would commit horrible murders for every june. it's happening right now it's an absolute epidemic and a tragedy every time

The abandoned* neighborhood cat I have been looking after for several years has recently seriously stepped up his efforts to adopt me and integrate with the inside cats and is staying inside much more. I am pretty sure he's saying "FUCK this rain and FUCK this heat and FUCK ALL THESE FUCKING MOSQUITOES" but it just comes out meeoooww.

At that point that I really desperately need to go get my haircut and have been here for a while but I cannot make myself call and get it set up. It was very rare for anyone to bother with this for me when I was little and when they did, it got me horrifically bad haircuts so by the time I was 18 I was like this about it. Maybe add a dose of that part where I really, really hate people messing about my head as a job - dentists, eye doctors, whatever. And how the fuck does anyone make time to do this?

Could we make greed culturally shameful and disgraceful again, please? It's just a form of gluttony, after all, it used to be one of the Seven Deadly Sins.

It might fix so many things if greed was disgusting and no longer socially acceptable, if kids got called names in school for it and adults were sneered at, mocked, and ostracized.

I keep seeing people online reacting to current economic outrages and inequality and they like to bring up 1789, but they should maybe really be looking at 1917.

dreams of the new

Have been terribly sleep deprived the past couple of weeks for entirely unacceptable reasons but managed to get a very good nap after work, getting back up only because the dogs insisted (it was almost time for their dinner). While asleep, I had a vivid and detailed dream that some supernatural/interstellar kind of being appeared. In the dream I kind of recognized it and knew what it was, and to my slight surprise and confusion it blessed me with some very specific things. Unfortunately (NATURALLY) I don't really remember what. The dream moved on to something or some colony of somethings appearing, or maybe more accurately, returning, possibly in some kind of ship or a formed connected colony like some sea creatures or coral, maybe or maybe not on this world, and I was so deeply soaringly joyful about it. At least in my dreams there is good news.

hobby time

So I have seen a few article like this one about how younger people (I am getting old and do not belong here) are getting into "old people" hobbies, or grandma stuff. And somehow no one stops to put these up against the other articles about how these same younger people are not having kids, but that's a vital part of it. These things take time, time that children would devour. People with children don't have so much time to knit, or garden, or sew, they have to be in the dropoff line and later go to Ashlyn's game or Trevor's play or whatever. And that is *why* these have been "grandma" hobbies, they were mostly done by people whose kids, if they had them, were out of the house. Such an annoying blind spot.
