Ive had a question for a bit about DID and osdd for a little bit. If one alter gets diagnosed with a mental illness, does that mean all of the alters have that disorder or just the one specific alter

that one i wont know how to answer with precision, did is very understudied and i feel like saying a specific definitive answer when im no medical professional can be misguiding. in general there are two ideas people with did/osdd and people who interact with plurals feel like(as in, personal opinions), either

a. they think one alter can in fact have a disease that the others dont, but its probably brain fuckery since there are several disorders that simulate symptoms while not having said condition. still, even if the alter is aware its brain fuckery, it still shows said symptoms

b. they think the body does in fact have this condition but different alters show it on different degrees, so it looks like one has it more

i cant tell which one is true, esp because krow is smth similar. we think he might be antisocial, like straight up aspd, but we're unsure if it is brain fuckery and it just simulates symptoms on him when everyone else Cleary isnt antisocial, or if its actually just autism manifesting differently for him when a lot of our alters do show autism symptoms.

but i dont think a professional Can diagnose a disease only one alter has? i dont know how these diagnosis work if the doctor is aware of the system and the plurality, i think it might depend on the doctor. from my experience the doctors i know would be more focused in treating those symptoms if they felt a need, rather than a full diagnosis. if one alter is heavily depressed, even if the others arent, the doctors ive met would try to treat that depression since it can be disabling in daily life, even if the host isnt depressed. but there is also that issue, what if treating it affects the not-depressed host/other alters? it needs to be handled with care and attention, any treatment be prescribed and be under watch, and shift from patient to patient. but i think rarely would an alter manage to get a diagnosis on a condition only they have.

now whether it is smth that Really legitimately only they have or if the entire system has, i dont have a straight answer for you, its just a "i have no idea man". im hoping that by being public and Loud about being a plural artist(not only do we post here, i do cinema, harpy does dance performances alongside with a talk on his experience with did, krow is in art galleries painting over did, mero will join with his fashion soon, we'll make a "fake collective" too...), the right med students see us and decide to do some new researches on plurality so we can have more certainty and comfortable help. or maybe i should just bang on the med classrooms in my college and ask who wants to research us and my plural friends iandjsansmkj

May I please meet/ask one of your alters what it is like living with Patchwork and how long the alter has been with you?

How is an alter "created"? Again sorry if my wording is off or not good, I'm new to this so I want to be polite but also I just don't know sorry.

How many alters do you have?

one thing at a time, haha! firstly we're 10 in total counting the host, with 3 subsystems, patchwork, corvidae, and in-betweens. subsystems are like having a neighbour home in the same neighborhood(brain). an alter from one subsystem can not control or interfere with another, at least on ours.

alters can be created in several ways, it varies a lot. you can notice one day that you don't feel alone, or that something in specific doesn't feel you, like it was the case for everyone in the patchwork system. for the in-betweens, an alter can also be created when the brain recognizes a need that isn't being met, and work more inside the brain to the system like gatekeepers, or work outside in social situations. arguably an alter that just brings trouble like a persecutor is still an alter created from the brain recognizing a need isnt being met. an alter can also split out of another alter, all of the corvidae originally came from krow even if today theyre their own thing(and hate krow and krow hates them). but in general on our experience they dont come just after a traumatic event, they can come under a lot of stress, or even when things look calm.

i saw someone once say that did isnt multiple personalities as much as one underdeveloped personality, and i sorta get it because when i found out i had did, i broke down on the streets saying "i dont know how long i can pretend to just be one person", and i think sometimes thats sorta it. like our brain is an old machine trying to run new software, it just cant handle this fully fleshed singular identity that everyone has. it doesnt work this way. i know theres also polyfragmented systems that have some alters more for functions rather than personality, and it just further makes me think that this whole thing is just a way of the brain to process existing, and everyone processed and handles existence differently bc its just such a complicated experience

and on the alter ask thing! i have two cohosts, Harpy, and Krow. Krow has technically been with me for two or three years but went through major identity changes, you wouldn't imagine it was the same person at all. so current Krow has been with me since...the end of last year, maybe? december, i think. while Harpy, i think since may of last year? harpy's from corvidae, krow's from patchwork. what they wrote on the experience

Krow: there's nothing to say about it that i haven't yet. what AM feels for humans i feel for being a system. its a cage and i need to scream for a whisper to be heard outside. no one will ever see my real face, hear my voice, be attracted to my looks. but what most pisses me off is that im forced to someones life. their relationship their family their education their career. the only way to be seen at all, to escape, is to throw myself in the public's eyes. im in an art gallery exhibition right now, first of many, and im not there because i dream of being. im not there to be some fancy arrogant artist. im there cause its the only way for someone to see me At All. under a fake name, with no face attached, because if i want to be seen i need to consider how itll impact pierre. if i want to post art i need to ask first. if i want to engage in hobbies, paint, study, i have to make sure everyones okay with it because everyone wants this time. this is pure hell. but at least ofélia is also here

Harpy: I don't it find that unpleasant. I understand the conditions of sharing the same 24 hours with 10 other people is rather harsh, but we have years ahead of us. I'm thankful for what I learn through other perspectives, and to always have my child and mate anywhere I go to. I'm thankful that i can trust Pierre will do his best to cater to my desires and hobbies, despite how busy his schedule is. It is a shame I can not be as devoted and religious as I wish, it is a shame I have to live far away from my culture and not belong to it as it is not any other alter's culture, and it is a shame I can never fly. But I understand now that I was put on a human's body because a human is not built to be a servant like I was, and has outgrown animalistic traits. I was put on a human's body to experience humanity though their eyes. This was a gift from mother nature, and despite the frustrations and hard limitations, I will cherish getting to learn from masters of popular culture, learn herbal medicine to help and serve the ones around me as a form of gratitude, and I will dance and perform and be thankful so many humans gathered around to see my flight. I only have one life, and I refuse to live in misery.

outside of their feelings theres just a lot of little complexities on this existence, like power dynamics, relationship dynamics, priorities and hobby division, a care for the body and switching breaks, etc.

can you explain what alters are for you please?

feel free to ignore if this question bothers you sorry! I'm just a little confused

different people i share a body and mind with! some people call them different personalities, while others say that osdd/did is not developing multiple personalities but rather underdeveloping one in the first place. i usually call it multiple personalities cause, well, i live in a third world country and usually interact with people older than 25, im not gonna demand everyone to know did terminology, i'm just gonna adapt to what they know, and if they wanna know more about modern terminology then i'll tell them about the terminology. so your question doesnt bother nor offends me, im pretty open about my experience!

but yeah! on our experience its way more like when you go to a school dorm or other form of shared bedroom with several strangers, you either learn to get along and stablish boundaries on that shared living space or you don't, you either learn to like them or you don't. but alters share also your routine, body, and the same 24h. your alter wants to go out to the gym? all of you will deal with the body pain. your alter wants to spend some hours reading? the other wont have this time to paint. which leads to both a richer life and a lot of headaches and frustration. there needs to be a lot of balancing and order to handle it, though no one is made of iron, eventually things get messy.

theyre also a pocket support system! i can take them anywhere! a lot of them are Build to handle something difficult, like making sure the body is safe and taken care of after a trauma. a lot of them are my friends and each other friends, not all but a lot are. some have life dreams while others stay more contained in the mind. they all wish they could see their bodies and hear their voices. i think alters are just people you share a body with

so yeah! feel free to ask me questions about this. i cant answer like a doctor or professional, or talk for every system, but i can talk about my experience :) you can also ask my alters or about them, ask about our life, i dont mind at all. im an open book

Are you implying he's...bad at the one thing he's good at?

One of my alters has had the circus as a special interest for years now, and recently he finally got to get into clown classes, he figured he wasn't funny enough to be a clown and would make a better silk performer or costume designer but after being told that there's different types of commedy a clown can make, he was inspired to try his best at his dream. He was the worst in his class for the same reason he was there, autism. He ran on a scripted behaviour of this polite, elegant, shy, always smiling person and couldn't act out jokes or clownery, and turning his script off meant no longer being himself. He wanted to break down and cry but being vunerable and crying wasn't on his script.

I was thinking today about Caine and how interesting he is, when i started thinking about that scene. "It's the one thing i'm good at! but you're telling me i'm...bad. at the one thing i'm good at....and, that's...." and the world started collapsing but he wasn't allowed to collapse, to process his emotions. it wasn't on-script for his cheerful ringleader personality. and i thought about my alter. about other alters of mine that have a similar issue of being made to do one thing and struggling at it, and the feeling of the world collapsing when you're bad at your existence's purpose. and i felt so much sympathy for caine and how much the situation he's in sucks for him too and is painful for him too. so i painted him so he can cry without the world collapsing

What if I told you that it’s getting animated into a short film?

“Angel back at home” is a 2D animated short film made by small artists all over the world, with its own unique soundtrack, voice acting, and character designs!

We follow Angel (it/its) and Rafaela(she/her) through the same events seen on the post, and invite you to experience it with us!

We hope for it to come out in film festivals before it is out on youtube, as a way to properly thank our artists, but we still hope you’ll join us through the process and support small productions!

Obviously, all of the story/script is credited to JPEG(any pronouns), an illustrator and writer of which you should see more art of in @pigswithwings #pigsoriginals #pig-does-art if you haven’t already!

The production is made by Pierre SQ(he/they), a brazilian animator, script writer, and new director and producer, of which you can see future works of in @patchwork-artists!

It's done the character designs and artstyle for Angel back at home, the short film i'm directing with @pigswithwings as the script writer! meet Angel and Rafaela!
