at a conference I attended recently, a researcher pointed to the difficulty of finding material in archives because so much depends on the metadata and the terminology used to describe things changes over time. "it would be so helpful," the researcher said, "if I typed 'lesbian' into the library of congress database, it would also show me results that were categorised in the 50s, when the materials were interpreted as 'intimate female friendships'"

which is what tag wrangles at Archive Of Our Own do incredibly effectively: searching for "omegaverse" also leads to "alpha/beta/omega dynamics" and "alternate universe: a/b/o" and so on. but ao3 achieves this frankly incredible categorisation and indexing system by the power of countless volunteers putting in hours and hours of unpaid and unthanked free time, and it's completely understandable that most archives do not have that kind of infrastructure, but also how incredible that a fan-run website has better searchability, classification, and accessibility than the library of congress

Therapy speak is super annoying in characters and i think more authors should weaponize this by having a character use therapy speak to justify all their bad life choices including but not limited to bullying, arson, and war crimes to really drive home just how obnoxious it is

The use of difficulty ratings (easy/medium/hard) rather than levels of firmness (soft/firm/hard) to describe egg yolk viscosity implies the existence of higher difficulties such as "eggs over-legendary" and perhaps even "eggs over-nightmare"

okay so as a result of hunting down all the various crevices I have (discord and my phones not eapp) for bits of fic I've found a bunch of random things I'd forgotten about (but not what I was looking for :-()

and like found that joke crack fic about yuuji ACTUALLY having a defense mechanism that makes people think they're his brother when he's under threat (although it doesn't make them like him. just if they're weird about family they're weird about yuuji) and I'd done Todo and Choso obvs and then Sukuna and Sukuna was funny becasue he hates family. But then I fucking remembred that, technically Yuuji and Sukuna are related (although more like uncle/nephew than brothers) and I'm really not proving the point here. lol. iconic.

right well instead I will vaguely mention what I remmeber which is essentially NHS (and WN's) beef with WWX is that he doesn't want to admit he's also undead for all extents and purposes except that the body he's inhabiting is alive. (it's not his body though. like nhs. unlike wn) because WWX isn't so above the prejudice of being dead either.

WN and WWx's beef with NHS is that he's a fucking cunt. More specifically that he refuses to admit he has positive emotions because that would mean he has to reckon with his actions. But this means he ignores the implications of what he's saying about everyone else undead. like nmj and wn.

Amusingly NHS and WWX main beef with WN is that he's too pally with the other.

I think I've saiid this before but one of the awful wonderful arm biting things about The Outsiders is that it is such an obvious chain of dominoes falling that leads to the ending of that book being what it is. But also. it's there. It's clear. It's never explicitly said but.

This was always going to happen. the chain of dominoes is just why it happens to Ponyboy.

Sometimes I get full of spite, and I have too many things on my list, but the idea of writing a fic where someone tries to help Xue Yang and take him in as a kid, because yanno, all he needed was a loving family.
