Busy making little gifts for little friends.

We are busy today making little Christmas crackers – without the bang – containing a small choc and a couple of stickers as a small token of appreciation for all the little friends my poppet has accumulated this year. Pretty cheap and easy to do and means so much to little people! It just takes a little time and effort but for the little happy smiles it is worth it!

The situation here in NZ has been somewhat chaotic lately. Auckland is in a water crisis with our dam water levels significantly under where they should be (at today’s reading we are 23.91% lower than the historical average, crikey).

Then another bout of COVID with 1 community cluster identified. The team of 5,000,000 quickly assumed strike positions and hunkered down at home to starve the virus…

Today is a big day for all of us here in NZ. We get to know if our cabin fever will be relieved by a reduction in alert level…… or not….

Honestly, what I wouldn’t do for a cafe breakfast, or takeaways right now….. Ihave never really been a KFC fan but the whole family is thinking ‘mmmmmm KFC’ lately.

Saturday started with a DIY. Hubby got out the front to rip out the front deck and replace it. It was rotten and full of holes when we brought the place 2 years ago and was getting worse each time winter rolled around. We each had a job, Mummy stayed out of the way, baked bread and lunch treats for hard workers. Kiddo, supervised and gave encouragement by yelling ‘You’re doing a great job…

Today we cooked some savoury snacks and bread…… Bread, like toilet paper, is scarce. Last time I saw a loaf bread in the shops was 2 weeks ago at the supermarket when someone had abandoned 1 loaf in the canned vegetable isle. Needless to say I grabbed it, but it was the last loaf in the store and I haven’t seen any since. So reviewing the basics has become a necessity for us.

I have never been a big fan of non-dairy milks. A common occurrence for me is I also often make a French press coffee in the morning just to pour it and discover no milk in the fridge. So with the lockdown and trying to save money, dairy milk and reduce unnecessary trips to the shops, I am gonna give nut mylks another go.

We’ve been so busy with the backyard with the vision, digging, pruning and weeding that the front yard has been throughly neglected…. it was only the other day that I was struggling with what to do in the front yard to be as equally as attractive as the backyard. It’s so overgrown and crazy with sideways growing wild-lings (self sown trees growing where they probably shouldn’t be)… and bamboo…
