(via A Black Trans Woman Was Killed in Las Vegas in January. Now we know her name was Sasha Williams) Sasha William's death is the 14th reported this year. Another tragic story of how we are failing our trans neighbors on multiple levels. Sasha deserved support and care from systems not made to meet her needs. #RIP

(via Brutal 2015 Murder of a Young Trans Woman in Columbus)
Her name was Ryan. She was 21 when she was quite brutally murdered in 2015. It took until 2020 to identify her. And just recently, we learned she was a trans woman.
"Born in Biloxi, Mississippi, Ryan relocated in before 2015 to Corbin, Kentucky about 90 minutes south of Lexington. It appears she had three siblings, one sister and two brothers. Ryan studied at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. At least two of her siblings remained in Missippi. Ryan’s parents lived in Kentucky.
Ryan’s family claimed she was fond of video games, computers, cartoons, and enjoyed playing with her younger brother. Her Facebook profile from her mid to late teens is filled with both enthusiastic and disapproving gaming content. She used avatars rather than photographs. I may be imagining a gradual shift in how she depicted herself.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations did a deep dive into Ryan’s social media and online activity. They discovered she had been exploring hormone therapy and voice training to facilitate her transition. Additionally, Ryan had been shopping for female clothing." #RyanZimmerman #trans

(via Gun Violence Claims Life of Black Trans Woman in Houston)
According to Houston based group The Mahogany Project, a witness stayed with Diamond until emergency services arrived. Diamond was a participant in The Mahogany Project.
That chokes me up. Too often, victims in these posts die alone. I wonder if they were lonely or scared. That someone stayed with her in such ugly circumstances says a lot about that person. We all owe them a debt of gratitude for that kindneess. #DiamondBrigman #TransWoman #RIP

(via 54 Year Old Latina Trans Woman from Washington Kidnapped, Tortured, and Murdered by Estranged Partner, Found in Mexican Cemetery)
Rest in power, Reyna. Your death is a caution to all of us about the deep threat of domestic violence. Yet even among the dreadful details, your life and how you walked through this world rise up to remind us that you defined your legacy, not the person who killed you.
Even in our brokenness about Reyna, we must find resources to support other trans women in similar situations.
May your memory be a revolution.

(via Grieving Nex Benedict: the Brutal Killing of 16 year old Nonbinary Student in an Oklahoma High School)
Rest in power, #NexBenedict
"We don’t yet know if Nex’s nonbinary identity is directly tied to this incident. But, my God, it sure matters to me that this would happen to any child. A nonbinary kid assaulted in a girl’s bathroom. That outcome from the narrative of anti-trans rhetoric these past years.
Still why wasn’t this story breaking news? It involves a nonbinary student in a public school. And school violence and school police resource officers. It involves the deep fear so many trans youth have shared with me about their schools."

(via Scott Township Library Partners With Chick-fil-A. Same Old Anti-LGBTQ Song or a New Tune?) I began informally polling folx to determine their chicken/waffle fries allegiances. While decidedly unscientific, there was a clear generational divide. Middle aged Generation Xers are a tepid, but audible “nope” while Boomers are subdivided by progressives who have a litany of reasons to not support fast food and those who are too tired working two jobs to have the energy to discuss it. And then the righteous Boomer Christians who think idling their giant cars in line for 35 minutes to buy waffle fries is virtuous.Gen Y and the Alpha Generation do not see the Chick-fil-A threat to LGBTQ folx any worse than the threats on deforestation, animal cruelty, low wage jobs, etc. There’s nothing righteous about turning up our noses at a sandwich when we simply pull into another capitalist entity that also hurts humanity.

(via 2024 Political Q&A with Makenzie White: What You Need to Know About This Candidate for PA Senate District 45)
The first candidate to return their Political Q&A for the 2024 Primary is Makenzie for PA. I curated four other Q&A's and hope to hear from other campaigns soon.
Makenzie has some powerful things to say and promote in politics.
" I think part of increasing turnout is education not just of the issues but on understanding how different levels of government can interact differently on issues. When working with communities concerned about environmental issues, I have seen the most success with municipal ordinance changes but most people don’t realize the size of the impact local government can have on people’s day to day life." #PaPrimary #Primary2024
