oh my god i may be the LAST person to get this but i just put together that in chapter two when you revisit the annoying mouse rooms and they've been overtaken by boxes, Rouxls must have been the one to put them there they didn't just "infest" on their own,, he was trying to sabotage the puzzles (just like he did in chapter one) hoping to gain the "Evil Rulers" favor in the new Dark World with his fucking boxes,,,, crying,,,

i really like seeing the very simple give-and-take dynamic noelle and kris developed with the pencils. like the first thing she does when kris approaches her in ch.1 is assumes they lost their pencil and offer one of hers, and then in ch.4, kris takes a pencil from her house out of habit. for me it really just reads that, after everything has happened and the two not being as close as they used to be, they still want an excuse to talk to each other. it's an natural conversation for kris (who's not very talkative) to start and easy for noelle (who's not very confident) to follow up with. it may be just small talk, but it's something simple and comfortable that they've fallen into that doesn't dig into any hurt that's hard to talk about.

love knowing that kris can influence the text boxes with their own opinions and know the other options that the player can pick sometimes because (outside of heart-aching weird route choices) it is hilarious. just. picture an otherworldly being taking over your body and making you talk to everyone in town and it has you walk up to some complete fucking stranger and wants to act like you have a long history together when all you can think is "who the hell is this guy??"

so i don't know if anyone's pointed this out yet, but despite being a near perfect replica of kris and asriel's room, the bird cage that kris keeps us in isn't here. and at first, since it doesn't have asriel's computer either, i thought it might've just been a creative choice to not include the bottom half of the room (for some reason? even though there's clearly space for it and everything else is pretty much one-for-one) but then it hit me. this is tenna's rendition of kris and asriel's room.

it's what it probably used to look like back when tenna, as the family tv, was the biggest thing in the house, before they got any other fancy electronics. and so, this is also before the soul(/the player) came into play, a while before kris would need the cage.

but the bloodstain is still there.

i've long stood by the idea that kris removing their soul was a metaphor for self harm (and i mean it is like. also inherently Actually self harm) but beyond that, i feel like this along with other things in the story (kris putting ketchup on their arms**, carrying a knife around, and toriel saying that kris "does this sometimes" to them running the tap/staying in the bathroom for long periods of time) is trying to tell us that kris has a history with something like this that goes beyond just them ripping their soul out.
