Retro gaming screenshots. Mostly stuff from the 80s and 90s. I'll toss in the occasional recent indie game with a retro aesthetic as well. If you like what you see, be sure to follow! ^_^ I've also started a YouTube channel where I play through various classic games. If you're interested in that stuff come check it out here! My buddy asked me to mention his YouTube channel, so here it is.  He talks a lot about classic games, and some newer stuff too.  Seriously, go check him out.  He's a super nice guy.  He even did a thing reminiscing about Streets of Rage 2, which is a-okay in my books. =)

Shantae was a pretty snazzy platformer for the Game Boy Color that didn't get a lot of attention.  It does have some super ravenous fans, though, and with good reason: it's a well done game.  Physical copies cost a small fortune, but thankfully they're slowly making their way to the virtual console now.

Super Mario World and Altered Beast may have gotten the lion's share of attention for pack-in games of the 16-bit era, but I still liked Keith Courage in Alpha Zones on the TurboGrafx-16.  It's bright colors, cheerful disposition, and mechs made for a pretty good time.

I've always been fond of the visual style in Astal, a platformer for the Sega Saturn.  The level of detail and artistic direction was great, and the excellent use of color made it all the better.  It also helps that the game was quite fun.  ^_^

E.V.O. - Search for Eden was a dinosaur-centric RPG for the SNES.  For featuring such ferocious beasts, the game's art is pretty darn adorable at times.  Sadly the game costs an arm and a leg nowadays. >_<

When the Dreamcast came out, one of the games that I frequently saw for it was Blue Stinger.  It had a strong Resident Evil vibe going for it, and made for an alright stop gap on the system until the RE series actually did start making its way over there.

While the original Streets of Rage was great, it's sequel cemented my love of the series.  It was such a refinement over its predecessor.  More characters, improved graphics, and a fantastic soundtrack, with just as much action as the first game.  Streets of Rage 2 was amazing.

The Magic of Scheherazade was an interesting action RPG on the NES.  It resembled The Legend of Zelda in a lot of ways, then threw in a battle system like that found in Dragon Quest.  Players could change their character's class, and the Middle Eastern setting made for a nice change of pace.

There have been no lack of gimmicky fighting games to come along over the years, but one that I actually like is Bloody Roar.  Fight as a human or as a beast.  Good times.  It's also a non shoot 'em up from Raizing / Eighting, which is kinda neat.

I really liked Lufia and the Fortress of Doom on the SNES.  It's right up there as one of my favorite "Games that Aren't Final Fantasy on the SNES".  It had a good story, a big world to explore, and I really liked the characters.

Chakan: The Forever Man was an extremely challenging action game on the Genesis / Mega Drive.  It also had a very dark aesthetic to it.  The game did seem to be quite popular in my neck of the woods when it came down, but that may be down to all of the promotion it was getting in magazines at the time. In any case, it's pretty decent game.

The Guardian Legend (NES) was a pretty great hybrid game.  Part shoot 'em up, and part wander around dungeons and blast stuff, it made for a nice mix of play styles.  I'm kinda surprised there hasn't been some sort of re-release of the game by now.

There were plenty of survival horror games to come out on the PlayStation.  While stuff like Resident Evil and Silent Hill got the majority of the limelight, there were other less well-remembered titles, like Galerians.

Ranger X was an interesting run and gun game on the Genesis.  It looked nice, but took a while to get a handle on the controls, making the game pretty tough.  Still, it's a worthwhile game to spend some time with.

While a lot of games have players running around, torching everything in sight, The Firemen (SNES) did the opposite, as players took on the role of fire fighters.  It's quite a refreshing change of pace.

Not much to say with this batch of pics.  It's Metroid on the NES, and it's awesome.  Great action, plenty of exploration, and a ton of atmosphere.  So good.

Lost Vikings is another early Blizzard game.  It's an interesting puzzle platform where a trio of vikings must traverse all sorts of different levels.  Players had to put in a good deal of thought to get past all of the puzzles that the game threw at them, and there was also a quite a bit of humor in the game.
