the tragedy of tumblr is you will inevitably meet people who you should be having a sleepover with. you should be rolling around on their floor and rummaging through their fridge and watching shitty movies with. you should be shopping with should be going out to a cafe with should be wandering through the aquarium with. people who you should be experiencing quotidian joys with... and you cannot! because they live one million miles away

you must understand how insane I sound when someone in the writers' group goes on a bigoted rant about fan fiction and I reply with, "Have you seen the movie Ratatouille?"

Any amount of time spent in the sun without a 50+ sunscreen will result in a nasty red sunburn, then peeling, and taaaadaaa: as chalky as before.

Only exception:

I went to the tanning salon for two months before my wedding to not color-match my dress, but I was only allowed to use the softest tanning bank on the lowest setting for 5 minutes per session (of course I still had to paid for 20 minutes😑) and the result was... well, I was still pale in comparison to everyone around me, except for my (usually equally pale) groom. Next to him, I suddenly looked tanned🤣

Literally, physically, do you have enough melanin to look brown? Not racially, ethnically, categorically, or semantically. Just on a pure skin content basis. If you look at yourself and think "brown", that's enough to count.

I did this the other day for your nursing home's "Restaurant Night" (It ends at 7:30pm but anyways) where we are actually required to skip the usual work uniform and to dress nicely.

Let's say I've gotten so many compliments, I was blushing the entire time. Especially that one lady I already really liked would wave me over several times to tell me how stunning I looked - she got mild dementia, so half of that might’ve been her forgetting she already told me, but that didn't make it any less special to me.

my ultimate life hack? i like, never wear makeup except for occasions where i want to feel overly hot/professional. this way, people who see me everyday won’t be shocked when i don’t wear makeup, they will instead be shocked at how much hotter i can become. how much potential i don’t unlock for no reason other than laziness

It's never too late. Someone put time and effort into a story and shared it *for free* with the fandom. If you like it, tell the author.

I had a one-shot once, and the first comment was written *years* after it was published. You can't imagine how happy this made me!

BUT: Don't (ever) expect an author to answer a comment OR decide on commenting or not based on whether the author answers comments.

You know, back in the day, it was like this: Author writes and shares their creation, Reader gets to enjoy the creation and leaves a comment to encourage and/or thank the author.

To expect (and thereby demand) a "Thank you!" from the author for a comment, is like expecting a party-host to pay you for accepting their invitation.

When I was training for my job and still looked like I was not a day over 16 (not to mention I'm only 5'1" had to spend a lot of time at a major train station (like 2 hours *daily*, five times a week), and out of boredom I played this game with myself:

I picked out one line on the floor and stay on it for the entire length of the train station (ca. 650 feet). And what can I say? It took a few weeks, but once I saw this post and adopted the "murder strut" I managed it more often than not!🥳

I'm German, too. All my fandom activities (and hobbies in general - including The Sims and the books I read) are in English. I also think in English most of the time.

At this point, I'm pretty sure my storytelling skills are a lot better in English than in German 😆😅

Therefore: all my writing is in English from the get go andnothing else😁

To the people who are writing fiction (or anything, it actually doesn't matter) are you writing stuff in your mother tongue first and later translate it to the other language (let's just assume it's English). I'm asking, 'cause I got that problem, that my whole communication on the web is in English and I also tend to write my fiction in English, but sometimes I feel like I should really also work on my prose in my mother tongue German (if I really want to get something published like in the distant future). And of course I have a better expression in German, 'cause German is a great language for prose and poetry, if you ask me. It's very descriptive, and I love how you can just build words by putting them together. But while writing in German, I recently tend to stumble over passages where I exactly know how I would put it in English, but I can't come up with a good German phrase for it. And if I want my fan fiction for example to be read, or my Simblr to be read, I need to publish it in English, and it's kinda easier to just write in English in the first place, even if it's not as elaborate as it would be if I wrote it in German. I really lost the point of this post by now. I guess I just wanted to know which language you prefer using when writing. So let's make this a poll. I like polls. xD
