Translation notes 21-25
Shout out to the sub English teacher who let me translate this in class <3
OH SHI- anyways I almost forgot about a part of this one, how wonderful. Okay, so when gaster says „To test something […] prove a point” I translated it into „to check something, and to make you realize [something]” in polish, the second something is implied. The „no matter where you hide” was also somehow hard to translate, I couldn’t find anything more fitting than the original rougher translation…but it works very well anyways, so it’s a win-win!
I made sure to make sans sound very proud of himself, so his words fit the scene as much as possible. And then as panicked as possible, interchanging his „oh god”’s with „oh no”’s. I also changed the „isn’t that what you told him” into „your own words, remember?” Since it translated better, and all around fit in great. Sometimes you can’t find perfect literal translation, but you get some perfect altered translations, that keep the meaning and the spirit of the original message. Gaster’s message about their limb dettachment also translated to be much shorter, so I added a comment about „when something happens to it, you’ll definitely feel it”. All around this was an interesting one
Crying was surprisingly hard to translate, but that’s all I really have to note
Panicked gaster is all I needed. Also a coffee, so I guess I got both the things I needed. This one was…fun, got emotional whiplash despite reading through it for like the third time. On the topic of the actual note, and the translation. Sans was very snarky at the beginning, easily seen through my translation, and his sudden shift into „oh shoot he’s serious…why?” I think was also rather well conveyed. „Did/ did you just make a joke?” Got turned into „are…are you kidding me?” Since sans can’t believe gaster is…trying to fix him, it’s very confusing for the babybones.
Gaster says that if „willingness translated to capabilities” then he would have created a genius, instead of his usual line. I also translated color cube into „Kolor-Kostka” so literally into color cube and not into „kolorowa kostka” which for sure would be someone else’s first guess. It’s easier to read that way, and makes color cube a single name for a single thing. Gaster is asking what he’s doing with himself at the end…maybe betraying some regret? Who knows, that man is a mistery <3 Papyrus is being a bean. Gaster especially uses „don’t you dare” like three times here, it carries more of a threat with it
Sooo… that’s the 25th. The limit will be hit as soon as I edit them! Damn! Y’all will get some c o n t e n t. Also I plan on actually notifying you all when we will have weeks with double chapters, so don’t worry about that!
Damn that was a lot of work...now i realize..,

Translation notes 16-20 | HANDPLATES
I just realized, that I’m doing these notes for no one/no reason, really, just because I want to share my passion before I can even start editing the comic… that makes me feel better, honestly. Makes me feel very human. So yeah, if anyone stumbles upon this, Hi! Hope you enjoy this!
I was so so happy when I re-read hand plates last time, and remembered that gaster says „I must have lost track of time” because, well, we have the perfect phrase for it, which is shorter (for once) and all around well known. Sometimes all you need is one phrase that translates perfectly to light up your day!
Okay, I won’t lie, I forgot to write the note after 16 and had to do it at the same time as this one, anyways. I decided to translate „Eyeglowing” as just „Blask” - „Shine” and to translate someone actually doing the eye glowing as „Świecenie” so „Glowing”. It makes more sense to do it like that, and it helps to make it shorter, more concise. Just like I’ll translate hand plates as just plates. Because hand plates is read just like that hand plates, two short words, and the polish equivalent would be płytki ręczne or something like that. Well, Płytki ręczne would be read as Pły-tki Ręcz-ne and all around would be more clunky. So, to keep the vaguely two part nature of the name, I’ll translate it to just Płytki - just plates. Just a little thingy for ppl curious
That one… hurt… but hey! I found another „perfect translation”! This time it was „you may blind yourself regardless” since it translates rather well to „ślepy z własnej ręki” so „blind by your own hands/doing”. This one was luckily rather short, not too much work, not too much to comment on. Changed „he’ll have to deal with it” to „He’ll have to live with it” since, again, it made more sense that way. I had a little problem with translating alignment but it was also relatively easy to figure out.
On the topic of figuring stuff out, some of the dialogue was a little hard to translate, a lot of repeating happened. I translated „people” to „other monsters” since if I were to translate it literally he’s say „humans” and that wouldn’t be very gaster of him. I continue to translate all of Gasters words about his choice as a „path” just so it connects more and stuff. Though, I feel like gaster thinks of it as a river…now that I think of it… I really should draw him on a lil raft, being carries on a river of dust towards the void
This „Chapter” reminded me that these notes are also supposed to help me keep track of how I translate certain things. For example, The beams. I translated them to the forcefield because there isn’t one way to translate it, and while yes, I could technically call them „promienie” which DOES mean beams, it wouldn’t really bring in the idea of the dangerous beams, more of the beams of light! So force field it is. I think it also conveys better how the baby bones think it’s like an impenetrable wall! A field of force that separates them from freedom, a gaster’s grasp stopping them from living a normal life. But hey, that might just be me! As a side note, damn I love the empty look sans’s eyes have in this chapter, it’s truly bonechilling…hehe
So yeah, that’s the first 20 chapters translated! Wooo that was a lot! But worth it, in my opinion. Now, the translations will be regularly posted! Having a backlog has it’s perks that’s for sure! I hope to release the first translated chapter this week! Might even post two chapters just as a treat!

If it so happens that i go over that limit, i'll make sure to reward y'all with additional comics in the middle of the week! Jeżeli jednak tak się stanie i przekroczę ten limit, upewnię się aby dać wam dodatkowy komiks w środku tygodnia
Another Thing! Mały dodatek
Just so everything is clear, i will be capping my backlog at 20-25 since i don't want to overwork myself and I want to make it a little more...consistent, not just translating in bursts! Tak dla jasności, będę robić zapas maksymalnie 20-25 przetłumaczonych i edytowanych komiksów ponieważ nie chcę skończyć przepracowany! będzie to wspierać regularność w komiksach i zapobiegać wypaleniu!

Translation notes 11-15 | HANDPLATES
8 ALSO I FORGOT TO MENTION- In the seventh, gaster says „Boże daj mi cierpliwość …”which means „God give me patience” which, for these who don’t know, just seems like a little saying. But, if you have some insight, you know that the rest of the saying is „Because if you give me strength, I’ll kill” which is very gaster of him. 11. Okay. 11 comic. hoo this is a lot in one day, anyways. I think that from now on gaster will use masculine versions for them no matter what. Since he did describe them as „two little skeletons” and skeleton is masculine. Possibly in later issues he’ll be switching in between them to show his inner turmoil? We’ll cross that bridge once we get there. ALSO, we got translated baby talk! I generally used some slang to base the words off of, since, you know, it’s usually just easier to say versions of proper words. Example Baby Papyrus said: No cry, See, One okay, One No-mal. And so I translated it into: Ne Płac, pac, je oke, je dobsz. Which roughly says: Dnt Cry, l-k , u oke, u gut. For once I’m glad I have a little brother, so I can better translate the baby talk.Anyways, other fun things…I again translated little as tiny, because it just felt right. Calling them „tiny skeletons” feels way more dad, and I need that sort of softness in my life.
12. UGHHHHH WHY WAS IT SOOO LONG??? Anyways, it was kind of tedious, but I think it was worth it, I find it to be one of the best like…calm before the storm comics? I actually forgot about the first time of the comic, so I was like, whew, finished, and then noticed that no, I was not finished. So yeah, that was f u n. I don’t know what to say about this one…it was long, not too many too interesting translation stuffs…
13. Okay, who, this was shorter, and much more pleasant. I changed some translations, to make life easier.like when asgore says „this is my duty, as a king. But my duty is also to my people, and my friends” and I changed it to basically „that’s my duty as a king, but my duty is also to serve my people, to serve my friends ” because it felt R I G H T. I sometimes wonder if it’s okay that I change the text im translating like this. But it feels correct to change it, because making a 1:1 translation isn’t my point here, it’s giving the polish audience the experience of hand plates in their native language. Oh, I also changed the last line to „I promise” because I didn’t want to make it like this…loooooooong and hard to read sentence, it’s the end of a comic part, it has to HIT.
14. Made sure the last sentence hit again, instead of saying „I WILL NOT FAIL” Gaster basically says „I will not disappoint” which I feel like fits him more…and the I don’t have a good 1:1 translation for the polish so it’s a win win! I changed the bit where papyrus asks about Gasters hands from „WHY DON’T MY HANDS LOOK LIKE YOURS? You and subject 1 don’t look alike, do you? Guess not” to „Papyrus: Dlaczego moja ręka nie wygląda jak twoja? Gaster: Ty i Obiekt 1 nie wyglądacie tak samo, więc dlaczego mamy my? Papyrus: W sumie…” which roughly translates to „Why isn’t my hand like yours? You and subject 1 don’t look the same, so why would we? makes sense…” the last word can’t be perfectly translated. Basically it means like an „actually you’re right” or „W sumie czemu nie” means „Sure why not” but „W sumie” also means in total or in all. So it also would fit in a „all in all” translation. Gaster feels colder when it’s put that way, which he definitely would be at this point.
15. I specifically translated „it is done” to „I did it” to show how gaster takes responsibility for what he’s done. I turned the „their limited worldview […] out of the pieces?” Part into a very specific building/ruins metaphor, since earlier I translated „a mutual scaffolding” into „a mutual foundation” so now it can be tied together, as if the building they build with Gaster’s aid got torn to shred by his cruelty. I changed the way that sans tries to comfort Papyrus, instead of saying „we’re okay” he says „We’re in this together”. It ties better with their codependency and also sounds better. I also translated „oh jeez” into „boziu” which is very similar, like they mean the same thing, but they’re used differently in the cultures. Boziu is most often used by older people, often referencing baby jesus, but it also sounds very childish, like a little kid would pick it up from their grandparents. This feels especially nostalgic to me, since I’m at my grandma’s as of writing this and she says that a lot.
Since I’ve hit the 15 mark, I’ll try to get to 20 if possible, but if not, I’ll try and get started on editing the pages to be translated. Hopefully I can provide the best hand plates experience to the polish side of the fandom…if it even exists. If it doesn’t then I know that hand plates can stand on it’s own regardless! Again, thanks to the amazing @zarla-s for giving me permission to translate this wonderful work! as a more personal note, I hope that as my translations go on, I’ll be able to maybe get a job as a translator? It sounds very cool in concept and as you might have noticed, I really enjoy it…well, let’s just hope my translations can pack enough of a punch so that it has at least half the force of the source material!

Translation notes 6-10 | HANDPLATES
6. When gaster refers to the baby bones, he uses the feminine pronouns „one żyją” and not the masculine „Oni żyją” because in polish, both children (polish plural stuff is fun. Basically, it’s female/fem unless there’s at least one man/masc in there. 99 women and one man? Too bad, all are masculine now!), Souls, Experiments and things are feminine(ish, children like I said earlier, are neutral, but the feminine plural still applies), so it just made more sense to be like this.
7. I- im not translating the hmm… I just am not, there isn’t anything for me to translate.
8. Why is translating sentient such a hassle? I decided to go with the next best thing of rational. Though, it was rather pulled from the polish translation of homosapien , since in polish it means „Człowiek Rozumny” or roughly „Rational Human” and sapient in my mind is related to sentient. I could go with „świadome” which would be conscious, but that wouldn’t work as well. Damn, I feel like a little scientist myself, trying to accurately translate and work on something I hold dear… I translated „Completely unremarkable and entirely undeserving of such attention seeking behavior” into „Completely painless and unnecessarily dramatic, this better not become a pattern…” Later gaster specifically calls „the other one” aka. Sans and It since…well, it’s gaster.
9. Because in polish Little and Smaller are basically one and the same, I opted for the crossed out to say „The tiny”. It fit more. When gaster describes little sans he also uses the word „lichy” which generally means small, thin, inconspicuous, but also can mean od low quality, in bad shape, bad quality etc.
10. The tenth one wasn’t too complex- I mean it was but it wasn’t 8 levels of tiring. I still kept the funky „plural but also feminine but also kinda not” pronouns for them, keeping in mind that Gaster would be thinking of them as the gender neutral terms „Experiments, Children, Things”. Ngl had to edit a few words where I slipped up, but it’s all good. Honestly I didn’t translate the babbling, because that would be…slightly painful if I had to edit it… but we’ll see, it’s the tenth one, maybe by then I’d have the proper skills to do it. If it happens, expect a note from me and a 4000 word apology letter.
This went quicker than I expected, might actually do another 5 today, the monster energy drink is helping, that’s for sure. As a side, note, this is how I keep it all organized, the comics that is. (Ignore the little YouTube, a man needs to get some ambient noise sometimes) I also have a little google translate page open, because no one is perfect, and it helps me find words I’m forgetting or just look up alternative translations, all within reason of course.
and every group has the comics in it
Im using half screen so I can look at the comic and translate it at the same time, though, I’ll also show it in full screen.
I also keep the index on there, just in case I need to check something…but mostly so I have the comic on a tab that ISNT hidden from me, because my object permanence is not there when it comes to this stuff.
