Just saw a post asking how tall people are and now I want to make it a poll. Apologies to people in the fringe height categories, you do not get specifics.
I had to consult a chart for this
#polls#height#lol I'm between two categories#so I chose the slightly shorter of them since I have bad posture

I get to be more free as an adult than I ever did as a child and I think more kids need to know that. as a high schooler part of what made my depression so bad was being told over and over again that it was the most carefree time of my life. while I was trapped in an abusive home + amongst bullies at school + in a body that wasnât right for me. opportunities to be carefree donât end when you turn 18. you can be more you than ever as an adult and thatâs such a gift. I know âit can get betterâ is an annoying thing to see over and over when youâre as trapped as I was back then. and I know that if youâre still a kid you deserve to be free right this second. but it can and will get better and this is not where life stops being interesting. promise
#truth#adolescence#teenagers#being a teenager was fucking terrible#until I started college#at which point it became amazing#the problem is so often the community and not the age#I know plenty of people who enjoyed high school#including my partner#but I absolutely did not

I stg this "soft girl" makeup look is going to kill me. I've been seeing people posting this saying shit like "oh no, I hate mascara, does this mean I don't have to wear mascara?!" No, it means you need lash conditioner and clear mascara and naturally dark and thick eyelashes, fuck you if you have thin hair or are a redhead.
Mascara is the one beauty product I can still reliably find if I can't go to Target and pick up some decent mascara I am fully becoming a terrorist.
Anyway, if you hate wearing makeup and think this no-makeup look trend is on your side, do not be fooled, it requires a shitload of makeup (like really skilled and perfectly matched makeup that's really hard to do), and more than that that "perfect glowy dewy angel look" relies on you buying an assload of skincare products that you don't really need.
I love makeup, not because I'm brainwashed by the beauty industry, but because like Divine, I want to look like Godzilla, and I can't do that with a bare face. Makeup is a fun method of self-expression and uniqueness, and seeing makeup that I can use to make a fun and unique look being drained out of stores is fucking killing me.
If you don't like makeup, like just don't wear makeup. If your job requires you to, just use some pressed powder and whatever shade of lipstick you like. Mac's Ruby Woo and Revlon's Fire and Ice are two neutral reds that look good on everyone.
Anyway fuck the beige encroachment of fascism and tradwife makeup.
#makeup#cosmetics#âNATURALâ MAKEUP IS STILL MAKEUP PEOPLE#I fucking hate it#makeup takes effort goddammit and if I'm going to wear it people are going to know#they will pry my shimmery shadows and blood-red lipstick out of my cold dead hands#also how on earth do people think lash extensions are somehow less work than mascara?

The holy grail of searching through academic literature is coming across a string of publications that are like:
Hereâs An Idea. Smith et al. 2016
Terrible Idea; a comment on Smith et al. 2016. Johnson 2016.
Youâre Wrong Too; a response to Johnson 2016. Nelson 2016.
Guys Just Stop Fighting, None Of Us Know Whatâs Going On; a Review of the Current Literature. McBrien 2017.
#lolololol#academia#true thing is true#reminded of the first time I encountered Serious Ricardian Beef in the back pages of the English Historical Review#James Gairdner and Clements R. Markham in the 1891 issue specifically

some highlights from my studentsâ romeo and juliet modern interpretation projects:
- someone made a username for friar laurence with 420 at the end - the same kid who put 69 in romeoâs username like i wouldnât know what either of those things mean - the girl who added âcleanâ at the end of all the songs on her juliet playlist like lmao girl i know spotify doesnât have the clean version - the kid who said romeo and juliet killed each other - the weird dichotomy of kids who put love story on their playlist vs the kids who choose bad blood - the kid who wrote âget a roomâ as tybaltâs comment on romeoâs couple pic - the kid who said âromeo is probably one of those douches who follows a ton of people so they follow him back and then he unfollows all of themâ - the one who legitimately used the word âalrightyâ do kids say this in their text messages???? i thought i was the one talking like an elderly person but okay - the one who made romeoâs username âmontagooseâ - the only kid who acknowledged that posting about your secret relationship on instagram was a bad idea - the girl who wrote that romeo would unironically say â#blessedâ. sheâs right. - the one single solitary girl who wrote mercutio as gay as shakespeare did (sheâs also the only one who used mercutio at all which is a tragedy but whatever) - the one who wrote romeoâs insta bio as âthus with a kiss i die⊠LOL RIP ME đđâ - the one who made benvolioâs username benvoliYO
#shakespeare#romeo and juliet#lololololol#the kids are all right#reminded of my students performing one of the Feste/Toby/Maria scenes from Twelfth Night#where Feste showed up with a baggie filled with âstuffâ that was labelled âNot Drugsâ

ned telling cersei that he knew her kids were jaime's so she could have a chance to run away with the children because he knew robert would've killed them if he found out was obviously incredibly stupid on ned's part and the thing that got him killed in the end but it was also one of the nicest things anyone has ever tried to do for her
he hated cersei's guts and thought joff was a monster but still he would rather betray his oldest friend/boss/the literal king and by extent the entire realm than be responsible for the death of innocent children and I can't fault him for that
he was kind of an asshole to her in that scene though
#asoiaf#asoiaf meta#ned stark#cersei lannister#omg that is so true and SO SAD#also the fact that Ned is the ONLY person who seems to acknowledge Robert's abuse of Cersei#ISTR she deliberately keeps it from Jaime bc she knows Jaime will kill Robert#but everyone else HAS to have seen the bruises and said nothing#and Cersei responds in the only way she knows how#ugh what a fucking tragedy#Ned just doesn't want anyone else to die#and Cersei has no idea how to survive other than by stepping over bodies#because that is how Tywin Lannister keeps his power

There are few delights in the world like having a friend start to read Jane Eyre for the first time and then as they are commenting on it you slowly realize that they don't know. They don't know Rochester's deal.
This is like the literary equivalent of meeting someone who doesn't know Darth Vader is Luke's father.
So they go "I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with this relationship! Yeah he's older and there is a class/power difference but he clearly respects her as a person and it's so refreshing!" and you just cackle, cackle, cackle behind your screen until the inevitable day you get this message.
Everyone congratulate my friend @anonymoustypewriter, they just found out one of literature's biggest 100+ year old shock twists authentically without anyone spoiling it for them.
#charlotte brontĂ«#jane eyre#literature#lolololol#but true that Jane Eyre wasn't considered gothic at the time#Ann Radcliffe was the grande dame of gothic#but I still remember when I got to the big Rochester twist the first time I read JE#I had been shipping them so much#and I was SO MAD#also I was maybe 10-11 so âshippingâ was still kind of a new concept#there were a lot of feelings okay?

jonathan harker's arc is about him accepting that he is actually into being dominated by an evil vampire as long as that evil vampire is the woman he loves. mina murray harker's arc is about her accepting that she has a right to take up space and speak her mind instead of bowing to social norms. lucy westenra's arc is about how the polyamory didn't change anything, it didn't save anyone, but it still matters that the polyamory was there. arthur holmwood's arc is about learning to cope with a sudden massive tragedy by opening himself up to others and strengthening his social bonds. quincy p morris's arc is about being hot and owning guns. abraham van helsing's arc is about not getting complacent in the idea that he has an open mind and accepting that he might make wrong calls based on his biases. jack seward's arc is about rebounding from life altering heartbreak by getting back in contact with his old favorite professor from med school who he sucked off one time. count dracula's arc is about fumbling a series of bad bitches so hard that he flees the country and dies.
