Clonmel Protests For Clonmel People

Far-right agitators from all over the country are converging on a housing development of 82 modular homes in Clonmel earmarked for asylum-seekers.

"We've seen lots of unvetted males being bussed in to shout abuse at vulnerable people," said one concerned Clonmel resident. "We don't know where they're from, or if they've been involved in any kind of criminal activity."

Other native Clonmel people were not so diplomatic.

"Go back to where you came from!" shouted another concerned Clonmel resident. "Just get back on your bus and go home!"

"We already have enough far-right goons in this town already," said another very concerned Clonmel resident. "You've seen what it's like on Saturdays. We just can't handle anymore."

Japan attacked a military target thousands of miles away from any American land. America dropped two atomic bombs on concentrated civilian populations on the Japanese mainland.

We need to be able to speak these truths without feeling the need to add a “but”.

ERASE the idea that America saved lives by dropping two atomic bombs on Japan from your minds. ERASE the idea that it was anything more than a political move to scare Russia and also to satiate US curiosity as to the true ability of nuclear weapons. Nagasaki and Hiroshima were not military bases. They were heavily populated civilian cities chosen precisely bc the U.S. wanted to see how many people an atomic bomb could kill in one go. Japan was on the verge of surrendering, the U.S. literally wanted to test out their nuclear weapons on people that they deemed disposable. That is it. If those bombs were dropped by any nation other than the US veryone involved would have been tried as war criminals.

There is a serious and worrying undercurrent of racism and white supremacy in the coverage of the Ukraine invasion.

And yes, if you think there is something inherently superior about Ukrainians over Syrians or Palestinians or Yemenis, that is racism. And if you think there is something inherently superior about white people over brown people, that is white supremacy.

Please think of the reasons we’re all so upset about what’s happening in the Ukraine and ask yourself whether or not those reasons also apply to other areas (like Palestine, Somalia, Yemen etc.). And if they do, why do you think you’re not upset by these? What do these places have in common that does not apply to the Ukraine?
