I always find mushrooms kind of captivating. They're just such sparce little characters in the big wild and it always leaves me with the feeling you get when you're wondering what the story behind something is. They're like seeing a car drive by at half past two in the morning. When I was hiking around Joyce Kilmer in the mountains there was this single tiny red mushroom at the bottom of one of those massive trees. My mind took off on a tangent about all the animals in the forest stopping to tell the mushroom about the world they had seen, since the mushroom couldn't go see for himself. That's what got me about this mushroom, he grew in a hunk of firewood. Completely portable. Hammocks or tents? . . . In this case the hammock was awesome. I went looking for a free campsite just before the eclipse and there were none to be had so I set up here, next to a boat launch, and it turned out to be a great spot! It was right on the water and I had a chance to meet a lot of great people. Flat ground was sparse and the hammock between the trees was inconspicuous. A couple weeks later though it rained for days straight and eventually the rain defeated my drip loops and my butt got soaked. I think a good tent would've stayed dry. It also would've been nice to have moved my gear inside with me and to have been able to read/doodle/eat chips without everything gravitating under my back. PLUS I'm going to be traveling next year and some places do not have trees. I've been thinking lately about buying a new camera. In doing research and learning what's changed since I got my old digital camera, I got the urge to dig out my old old film camera. This is the film Nikon that I used back in high school and essentially first learned to shoot on. Another day, another few hundred miles.

So I changed my plans a bit. A year ago I started this page hoping to revel you with stories about converting an old school bus into a home. That has fallen through a little upon thinking about it- I’ve had a dream for a long time of traveling indiscriminately around the world via motorcycle. If I’m going to do so I’d like to not have a house sitting empty waiting for me to come back. Thus, instead of building one big tiny home, I’m going to build two! Note the two cruddy cell phone shots at this time. They’re of my jeep and my motorbike. Starting early next year I plan to live out of the jeep, parked somewhere safe, to save money to improve the bike and get me started on the road. I want to work on the bike’s suspension and ergonomics, but also buy better safety gear and moreover develop a camping set up that I’m very happy with. I want it to be home, wherever the kick stand comes out. My loose goal is to set off spring 2018. I’m going to make this happen!

I found that slip from a fortune cookie under some carpet in the jeep. I’m not exactly superstitious but I’ll take that as a good sign. My health is all I need!

It's a baby watermelon!

10lbs of powdered long dead fish creatures. First read about it as a way to combat fleas, but ordered it to debug my garden. Apparently, to us it's like powder but to insects it's like broken glass.

If you put the seeds plus some potting soil back inside the rind, you get watermelon bombs. If you stash watermelon bombs everywhere, that makes you an ecoterrorist! *nefarious laughter*
