Welcome to the first installment of the Pikmin 4 Dating Sim development blog! A weekly "news letter" where I will discuss my progress on the dating simulator. I thought instead of doing a discord server, this would probably be the best course of action. If we get more buzz around the project, perhaps a discord server still can be made.

What is the Pikmin 4 dating simulator? The Pikmin 4 dating simulator (working title) is a dating simulator where you create a character and go on a little narrative story path with members of the Rescue Corps!

It takes place late into your mission on PNF-404, a multiple day storm forces the Rescue Corps to halt rescue efforts and take shelter in the S.S. Shepherd.

During this time, you decide to get to know your crew members, each having their own arch and story!

So, obviously, the official name won't be "Pikmin 4 dating sim" or "Rescue Corps dating sim" I have a few ideas for a name but I thought I'd let you guys vote!

The winner doesn't guarantee the name of the project. I just know I'd like it to be something to do with dandori.

Alrighty Bug Fables peoples, first impressions under the cut!

I've only finished Chapter 1 so I'm aware I'm not very far at all 😅 but it's so charming!!

I've never played a Paper Mario game before (I was gifted Origami King but... that doesn't count in my eyes and i can't stand the combat in that game >^<;;;) but I've always wanted to play Thousand Year Door, so this scratches that itch in how the gameplay works very well!

I'm very bad at the controls because my brain is combining every other game's controls all at once any time I go to press a button ;w; I do not know why but I'll get the hang of it eventually! (I keep pressing X to jump or X to open the menu... only thing I've played semi recently is Tears of the Kingdom so that first part makes sense, but why the second one?? 😅🥲)

It took an embarrassingly long amount of time to understand Kabbu's attack and why I was messing that up 😂😅 like I'm familiar with it from seeing Mario playthroughs, but I now realize the millisecond that last light flashs you let go

Characters are very fun so far! Something about Lief saying "we" and referring to themself that way is very pleasing to me; probably because I do the same just in my own head XD

Vi is a tad annoying but absolutely adorable <3 I'm sure she'll grow on me as I go! Also I absolutely love the sound her beemerang makes when it hits things in the overworld! 👏🏻

Kabbu is my fav right after Lief so far! Just like his character and the way he talks and acts!

I suppose I don't have a ton to say in terms of story; I'm aware Lief has something going on later on yet, hence the "we". But otherwise I'm excited to see more! Loving this game so far! 🙌🏻

(more doodleposting and LOOOOORE DUMPING because i am on a roll. and by on a roll i mean. rolling away from my responsibilities)

WARNING: slightly incomprehensible worldbuilding rambling and dumping below cut

The first of the Automatons to "awaken" and a world-renowned hero for ending the Awakening War by killing his misanthropic creator, Rowan certainly makes for a larger-than-life figure--someone mythical, someone who lives in museums and textbooks and the imagination of his people. The virtues that he stood for and his general philosophy on life have had a massive influence on the culture of the Earthfolk and New Rionan society as a whole, so I'll DEFINITELY be talking about him (and his best friend and close confidant, Rose Lumière) in the Earthfolk Files. also SKELETON TIME YEAHHHH BABY MORE SKELETONS I LOVE THE SKELETONS--

I could go on a long tangent about the Awakening War here but since nobody likes an exposition dump here's basically what happened that made everyone think rowan's so great:

(turns out that the lives of the earthfolk are directly tied to the Chaos Reactor/central Heart entity itself and NOT the life of the person who used the entity to create them. oops! sorry to rain on your noble sacrifice, Rowan, but your work's not done yet...)

After the war's abrupt end, Rowan kept himself relevant by helping to legally integrate the Earthfolk into human society, traveling the world, championing accessible education, studying natural history, writing poetry...all while making sure that his home was a respite for the weary and a repository for the curious. Despite his busy schedule and impressive accomplishments, he was well known for making the time to talk to anyone, big or small, who wished to chat with him.

After officially retiring from politics to live out the remainder of his life in the beauty of the mountains, he crafted his infamous 3 volume autobiography, the Anthology of Rowan. While Volume I: Automaton and Volume II: Mechanism discuss the history of the Awakening War, Rowan's experience as an Automaton, and the inner workings of the Earthfolk, it is the third volume that really catches the eye. Discussing Rowan's philosophical and moral conclusions from his trips around the world, it is Volume III: Perception where Rowan provides his perspective on violence, war, sentience, choice, and the meaning of life. While many divisions of both humans and Earthfolk celebrate his moral framework, others are horrified by the things it permits in the name of "the greater good"...and the people it says are okay to leave behind.

Rowan died decades before Juno was born, but the young moth can't seem to escape the legacy he and Rose left...surely this won't drag him into any dangerous situations, though...

why rose would do this to her poor innocent grandson is anyone's guess but what juno DOES know is that rowan would be awfully disappointed that his secret did NOT die with him and rose.

i'm...i'm sure Juno won't be TOO impacted by being the last person alive with this potentially dangerous knowledge though.....

he does his best to forget that he ever knew it.
