“Ya no aguanto ver el otro cómo dice que es el dueño tuyo… Te encaliento mas.”
From expensive diapers to expensive college textbooks, Min Yoongi and you were an inseparable duo. He was your best friend, your partner in crime, your snarky personal comedian, and, indisputably, your biggest crush of all time.
How could you not hand your heart over to the guy that kissed your bandaged knee at age 7 when you hurt yourself chasing after a stray cat? Or the guy that would stop at nothing to capture sixteen fireflies by the glow of the streetlights for your birthday because you said you needed them to make your dreams come true?
The fact that your parents were longtime family friends only aided and abetted your runaway heart.
“Take care of my girl, Yoongi. One day she’ll be your wife!” Your dad would chuckle while ruffling Yoongi’s hair as the ten year old boy would blankly stare up to the older man’s smile. Yoongi’s mouth parted open slightly, and his cheeks were dusted lightly with a nice warm pink as he looked anywhere but at you.
Warm.
That was the perfect way to describe how he made you feel.
An overwhelming feeling of comfort and security would begin with fluttering fireflies performing acrobatics in your stomach that then would continue to radiate to your face in the form of a glowing smile.
That’s how you had happily and contentedly spend the past eighteen years of your life with him. Best friends. Nothing more and nothing less.
You were heading into your second semester of your first year of college and had already coordinated as many classes as possible with Yoongi. He was a budding music performance major while you chose to follow your heart and become an English major with a minor in creative writing. You weren’t exactly sure what your plan for after college was, but you were sure that you were headed down the right path.
After all, your first semester had been successful enough. You pushed yourself out of your usually introverted self and made friends. You were much more social than in high school and joined a million different clubs that all had to do with your interests: creative writing, drama, and the college newspaper, to name a few. You even were nominated to homecoming court, and even though you didn’t win, you were just happy to have made so many friends beside Yoongi and had gotten support from them. You really were thriving and trying to live your best life.
However, that meant spending more time with your fellow English majors and less time with Yoongi, as he also got sucked into the trivalities of the life of a music performance major. Seeing each other went from every day, to every couple of days, to every week, to even being lucky to see each other more than once a month.
You hated that you didn’t get to see Yoongi as much as you used to, so you made it a point for this semester to walk together back to your dorm after classes and rehearsals, so you could at least have an opportunity once a day to see the gummy smile that lit up your day.
“Don’t forget that on Mondays we have Physical Education at 8:00 am. Knowing your lazy ass, I’ll probably have to bang at your door for half an hour before you even begin to wake up,” Yoongi quipped at you with an amused smile and raised eyebrow.
“Ha ha ha, we both know that it’ll be a miracle if you get up at all. You’re the real sleeping menace here,” you deadpanned right back.
“Why did we decide to take that hellish class at that unholy hour?” he muttered.
“Because it was the only time that we could both take it, plus it’s required to graduate, and I do not want to be taking that class as a senior,” you explained for the thousandeth time.
You both turned the corner in the residence hall and came upon a dingy wooden door with two paper placards taped onto it. One baring your name, and the other contained the name of your roomate, Lisa. Your face fell slightly, disappointed because you weren’t expecting to get to your room for a little while longer and your conversation with Yoongi was cut extremely short.
You loitered around, hoping to grasp onto the warmth just a little while longer, lingering for any reason to continue your conversation. Fingers playing an unknown melody on your thigh, you couldn’t take the awkward pause any longer and were just about to say something when your roommate burst open the door of your room and pulled you inside without warning.
“You won’t believe who I heard has the biggest crush on you in our poetry class!” she enthused right before shutting the door in Yoongi’s face.
A class that you decidedly were not taking with Yoongi.
What you didn’t see was your best friend’s face fall in resigned silence and the long sigh that accompanied him as he walked away.
You didn’t expect that from that afternoon on, you would be seeing Yoongi even less and less than before. So much so, that you didn’t even interact with each other outside of classes. He would humor you if you managed to catch him in a conversation, but it would always be cut short with an excuse that he had to master yet another piece for his piano. You no longer felt warmth. No matter how much you craved for it, all you would get was his cold shoulder.
You kept trying, and he would agree to meet, but you could tell it was halfhearted and your conversation didn’t have the same familiarity that it would use to. Gone were the inside jokes and recountings of memories, instead there were only slightly interested inquiries as to how each one was doing in their respective classes. It could have been comparable to an extremely lackluster progress report.
So, you had no choice but to recede back into your own major related classes. Lisa finally introduced you to the guy from your poetry class, Namjoon, who coincidentally was a friend of Yoongi’s and that’s how he first heard of you, and you two had hit it off. Having someone show the effort in being interested in you was refreshing, and it didn’t take more than a couple of dates to agree to your first college relationship. He had a wonderful way with words and a philosophical mind that even left you speechless. There was always another conversation to be had, another discussion, another quandry. You would walk to class together, work on homework together, have dates once a week. It was…nice.
How could you kid yourself. It was routine.
But you were happy, and he was interested.
Week after week, date after date, numb kiss after numb kiss.
It was enough.
Namjoon didn’t give you heat or warmth, but he did give you care. And care became your new normal. It was no longer Yoongi that would take you back to your dorm, but Namjoon with forehead kisses and tender hugs.
You would see your former best friend every now and then when you were saying goodbye to Namjoon in front of your dorm, and that made sense. You two did live in the same building and he had a friend that lived on your floor. Whenever Yoongi saw the two of you, he couldn’t help but stare for a second and then briskly walk off in the other direction, fists shoved into his hoodie pockets and a determined gaze set on the floor in front of him. That would happen a couple of times. Until it didn’t.
It was after a particularly long hug from Namjoon on a Friday afternoon that Yoongi stalked up to you before you could get into your room, but after Namjoon had left. He grabbed you by the wrist and pulled you with him until you were settled into one of the private study rooms offered in the lounge area of your floor. Just the physical contact after so much time was enough to jostle the fireflies awake and start the almost forgotten warmth you felt in his presence.
Even though you hadn’t really interacted with Yoongi for two months now, you could still recognize signs of anger and distress on your friend. His hood covered his head and he was playing with the strings, pulling and loosening the hood. His eyes were furrowed and he paused before speaking.
“Break up with him.”
You blinked a couple of times, not exactly registering what you heard the first time it was said.
“I’m sorry, what?” You questioned.
He sighed and stopped pulling the strings of his hoodie. He lowered his hood and then sat you down on one of the couches in the room.
“I miss you and I’m an idiot. I told Namjoon about you in the music theory class that we have together, and I guess I did a pretty damn good job of talking you up because he told me he liked you not long after that. I didn’t think anything would come of it, but then Lisa mentioned him to you, and I got scared. He’s your type, smart, well spoken, caring. I knew that you would fall for him. And I didn’t want you to. Because I had already fallen for you. Hard. So from then, I started separating myself from you, preparing myself so that it wouldn’t hurt so much when the inevitable would happen and you two would be together.”
He paused to gauge your reaction, but you just sat there, staring back at him with comically large eyes. He took that as a sign to keep going.
“And I thought that would work. But it definitely didn’t. Seeing you two around campus was enough to make my blood boil. Not just the fact that you two were together, but that he wasn’t making you the happiest that you could be. I know I can make you happier. Please give me the chance to show you how I can be your perfect partner,” he pleaded you, eyes searching for some sort of response in your own.
You sat there in silence.
Here was the boy that could make an uncontrollable heat rush through your veins telling you he had feelings for you, two months too late.
“I’m going to need some time,” was all you said before you stood up and walked to your room.
Deep down, you knew he was right. Knew from the moment you were three and he declared that he was going to be your best friend and protect you from everything he could that he had already captured your heart.
But you were already with someone else.
You stared at your dorm’s ceiling from your bed until 6 am because you couldn’t fall asleep. All you could think about was replaying the moment Yoongi said he could make you happier in your mind and asking yourself, when did you let everything go wrong?
It was then that your phone chimed with an incoming message.
I think we should break up.
I could tell these last two weeks that your heart hasn’t really been into us. I should have known better from the way Yoongi first described you to me that I had clumsily stumbled into an already budding romance.
I was just too optimistic that this amazing person could accept me into their life. I saw Yoongi drag you away after I left, and I don’t have it in me to keep two people who clearly care about each other dearly apart. Please take my blessing and chase after your heart.
Your eyes were tearing up in reaction to the heartfelt and intuitive message from Namjoon. He really was too good for you, and you hoped that one day he would find someone that would feel the same rush of warmth for him that you felt for Yoongi.
You bounded out of bed, robe flying behind you, and ran out to the stairwell in search of the familiar heat you had been missing.
You found him playing the piano in the lounge on his floor, agonizing over the keys and frustratingly playing the same runs over and over. You couldn’t be happier.
You enveloped him in the warmest hug you could muster and nuzzled into his neck. He looked up at you from his position on the piano bench with the most optimistic and hopeful smile you’ve seen him wear in months.
“Never leave me out in the cold ever again.”

Introduction to Quillable
Hey there Tumblr!
Longtime reader, recent poster. I’ve loved scrolling through tumblr and discovering lots of different imagines blogs. I’ve fallen in love, had my heart broken, fought, gotten back together with, broken curses, dealt with werewolves, and overcome many an incubus (you know I went deep in the imagines) all in 10k words or less. I’ve found that I wanted to be a part of this incredibly captivating world and would like to introduce myself as a Kpop imagines blog.
For now, I’ll start with daily drabbles. Hopefully I can work myself up to reactions, scenarios, extended fics, requests, and maybe even completed series one day?
The groups that I feel comfortable writing for currently are BTS and EXO, but I aspire to adopt many different groups in the future. Thanks for being by my side on this journey.
Let’s see where this quill will take us!
