THINGS I NEED TO FUCKING KNOW: Why every fuckin trans man or nb person I know who binds is like “oh binders are the worst, you can’t breathe in them, I know someone who broke a rib once”,
And meanwhile over in historical costuming, we are fucking eating, sleeping, swordfighting, riding horses, and feeling great like this:
(credit: Jenny La Flamme, The Tudor Tailor, Verdaera)
Like is there NO overlap between people who want to bind and people who care about accurate 16th century clothing reconstruction techniques?
(I, okay, maybe it is kind of a niche interest, but…. REALLY? Anyone who’s made a boned binder, PLS SPEAK TO ME)
#when I have the money I would love to commission something like this because so far in my experience normal binding doesn’t really help#as much as I’d like it to

I've spent all day trying to articulate a thought on how Copyright has been elevated to a moral code, a system of magic, and an egregore utterly divorced from anything real. even beyond its material effects, the sanctity of Intellectual Property is defended at all scales in a very unnerving way
#no literally we have NEVER done our mythmaking like this#of course fandom exists and of course it’s a constant struggle#not to mention the ridiculous notion that hypothetically your writing can’t even be inspired— intentionally or unintentionally— by anything#like#we all know that’s not how art works#but it’s a stupid smoke and mirrors show we have all decided to participate in#I’m not explaining myself well but hi#I have issues with copyright#at least as it currently exists

I have OCD and with that comes quasi-hallucinations, and I grew up watching a ton of horror films so some of the worst of mine are the standard white skin/black hair demon girl type shit.
However, because a lot of them are based on horror film I have found comfort in doing things that “go against” horror films and being like “see? This could never happen.”
(It’s irrational. I know that. But shut up. This is how I cope.)
For example: I started hearing garbled whispering from beneath my table, so I started playing the muppets sound track. Because they would never play Movin’ Right Along when the protagonist is about to get attacked. That won’t happen. Disney, who owns the muppets, wouldn’t give them the rights.
And it fucking worked.

#prev tags#this is literally why I do better when I’m living with a dog than not#my brain can try to invent all sorts of horrible home invasions and/or horror movie scenarios#but my dog barks when someone she doesn’t know takes too long walking past my house#so if there WERE actually a demon just behind the laundry room door all of a sudden#she would be going berserk#and she’s not so I know it’s fine

favourite underrated part of the locked tomb is how in gideon, everyone fights w swords and magic, so we the audience are just like, okay this is how things are in this universe, there are no guns, it’s all swords and magic, neat! and then in harrow, wake has a gun, but every non-lyctor who sees wake’s gun considers it a weird and ancient weapon, so we the audience are like, okay so there used to be guns in this universe. and the characters are vaguely aware of what they are, but they’ve become pretty much obsolete, which gives wake’s ghost this terrifying old-school vibe, cool!…
and then we come to nona, and everyone and also their mother has a gun, and we the audience are like, oh. we’ve been seeing all this through the aristocratic space catholic sword-and-magic cultists who are only a small and also kind of brainwashed part of what’s going on in this universe, and there’s been a whole gritty, grounded space dystopia going on this entire time with absolutely fascinating worldbuilding, political, and urban warfare elements, neat! but the whole time nona is only interested in patting everyone’s dogs.

We have GOT to stop being assholes to people with receding and balding hairlines. There's not a single person that it can't affect. It affects trans men, particularly on hormones, it affects trans women, particularly those not on hormones, it affects people with endocrine issues, something that's becoming more prevalent and common, and it can affect people without a particular cause, including cis women. It's a normal part of being human and we NEED to stop dehumanizing and humiliating ppl for it

book one: seivarden vendaai experiences like 90% of a love story, but with a shocking twist!
book two: the triumphant return of seivarden vendaai’s distinguished military career! unfortunately, breq is in love with her ship. it’s fine. it’s fine. it’s fine.
book three: it was not fine.

Okay hear me out: what if post cannon Basnaaid adopts Breq into Elming as her heir, bookending Breq's offer in AS.
Breq's offer comes with social advancement but no real connection either between them (Breq states outright that she's offering because she wants to ensure that Basnaaid is taken care of, for Lieutenant Awn's sake, and would probably never have considered the possibility that Basnaaid could form any personal connection to her) or to the house (neither of them has any actual desire to be part of Mianaai). On the other hand, being adopted into Elming would be a significant social comedown that emphasizes an emotional bond of friendship and shared love of Lieutenant Awn. While also at the same time being an incredible fuck you to both Anaander Mianaai and the class structure of the house system as a whole.
Also I really want Basnaaid to send her parents a letter that's just "hi moms! Good news, I've adopted you a grandchild. She's 2000 years old and legally an alien, we'll try to come visit you soon! xoxo"
