Labyrinth kinda helped me with the "Don't judge a book by it's cover" moral 'cause I watched Sarah being friendly and close to Hoggle, which to a little kid I percieved as 'ugly', but he's the one who's helping her.
Then when it comes to Jareth, to which I know would be considered attractive, (plus its David Bowie), I would consider attractive. But he's the bad guy, makes the labyrinth harder for Sarah which is unfair.
And the fact Sarah even wanted to give Hoggle a kiss for saving her life encouraged little me to "Yeah, be grateful when people help you, and ugly people are not always the bad guy."
And also the ballroom scene always made me so confused back then. I was like "Sarah no, he's the bad guy why are you dancing with him? Why is he stalking you like that and why is the music making it romantic? WHERE'S MY PRINCE CHARMING?!"
I really like your art. The saints you are painting now are wonderful. I'm very curious where you get your information about them. (Is there a book or website?) I love Christian art, but I know very little about the Western tradition. Perhaps you can recommend something for me to read? If you answer, then thank you in advance.
Hello anon! I'm glad you enjoy my catholic art! 🤩
About where I get my info about them, the online world is very helpful, and I go to many different websites, especially from different official religious orders, to read stories about them.
I also sometimes get it from memory , like from St. Dominic de Guzman, I remember a lot from him when I was in catholic school, but it won't hurt to fact check it.
I look up to see if there's any movie adaptations of their life as well. It shows a lot of the significant miracles they did, and sometimes what their personalities might've been like. I recommend going to youtube too, there's videos, sometimes by religious orders, who makes videos about their patron saints and founders.
I also want to look for any book of saints tbh anon, I've been trying to find a good one that's great for art history/reference. So I apologize I can't recommend any book to you. 😔
Another St. Dominic story I like that shows his bold and fearless personality, was when he encountered a bunch of heretics and warned him about his mission to preach, only to be followed up with a reply that changed their minds.
Time for my monthly emotional breakdown because I'm crying over the tragic character who deserves so much but was deprived of love, making him doomed to fall to his destiny
😭😭😭
